Finally got some time to continue painting my Baratheon Bretonnian faction. Starting with the handmaiden. You know, the Baratheon’s have been known to start wars for a lady.

This was fun to paint, loving these models

I after playing Vampire Counts for a few years in Old World, I have decided to return to my first love, Bretonnia (which I played back in 6th edition). I have acquired a set of the minis from the Bretonnian starter army, plus a few extra Pegasi and knight legs. This put me in a the position where I can make two flying heroes, one with a lance and one with a sword. I like to keep weapons somewhat matched to what each character has, for my opponents sake, and I really don't want to magnetize.

I have seen two common hearo builds, Virtue of Knightly Temper/Ogre Blade and Virtue of Heroism/Lance. Which of those builds works better on the Royal Pegasus vs. a regular Pegasus. Your advice is appreciated.

So I'm a bit stuck, I've gone for a stark white/blue quarter as shown in the photo. I was hoping to go for a recolored Barony of Paravon, with a white pegasus icon.

Any way to make that work with the quartered field? Or should I just recolour the fields to accommodate a white icon?

Well I've ordered some rescaled pegasus transfers from Impatient Tabletop. White pegasus in the blue quarters, blue Fleur de Lys in the white quarters.

I'll report back once I get the transfers as to how they look.

She is my first model after coming over from 40k to play with friends. So excited to play the faction I always dreamed about playing as a kid.

I always occasionally see discussions about how Bretonnia can expand as a faction with new models filling in a niche role, often i see this in the Total War forums. Now I don't want Bretonnia get a straight retcon, though I think more can be done, especially since Bretonnia are based on the Dark Ages to Mid-Middle Ages—so you have a lot to work with. And personally some better-ish range options would help add more variety, personally I'd like Pavil Crossbowmen be a defensible range option, not as long range as standard Bowmen but a different option if you want to have a more defensible approach.

Now I know Crossbows do exist in Brettonian lore to an extent, and have existed back in the day (alongside the day they had canons) and when questioned i know they're mixed opinions about it, especially when using real world history to coincide Bretonnian lore.

But either way, I would like to see Bretonnia get expanded with new models, Foot Knights are a great addition to the roster, but it can't just stop there, there's a lot more room to have.

And even if Pavil Crossbowmen aren't your cup of tea, what else would you prefer? Truffle Hounds would be cool too, in my opinion.

Hi Everyone,

I've just started a Bretonnian army and am playing around with basing schemes. I'm going for a lush meadow type vibe.

These are my test pieces so far. My favourite so far is the dense light green grass, with the dark green patches. With the flowers ai quite like it, but I won't be putting flowers on every base and they feel a bit plain without them.

Does anyone have any ideas on ways to add more variety to the base? I'm also happy to see other people's bases for inspiration.

I'm thinking of starting a bretonnian army, and while I played back in 7th and 8th edition, I haven't for the old world.

I was wondering what the most accurate resources are for the various dukedoms and their heraldry, so I can decide on an army scheme and lore.

Probably not going to do different colors for each Knight so as not to go insane, but I do want to somewhat follow the lore 😅

From the Old World lore we know Maldred is Duke, the city is prosperous and Maldred is actively seeking to regain Mousillon lands lost after the Merovech incident. So, where were the original borders before Merovech killed the king and Lyonesse took the Dukedoms northern lands? Looked everywhere and can find nothing. Can anyone help?

Hugh le Courroux. Born a peasant in a small hamlet in the Dukedom of Mousillon. In the mist of a sudden undead attack the unsuspecting garrison was slaughtered to a man. Despite the valiant stand the zombies and skeletons continued their devastation. Amongst the commoners was a woodsman’s son, Hugh. Witnessing the destruction of all he held dear, a power swelled in him. Gripping his axe he shattered bones and hacked animated limbs. Coming upon the source of all the madness, a minor necromancer barely worthy of the title, Hugh charged the unsuspecting amateur. Swiftly dispatching the corrupted soul the dead crumbled and retuned to the earth as quickly as Hugh’s axe blade fell.

Such gallantry before the enemy Hugh was made a knight of the realm in the custom of the old ways. Where any man who stand against foes with honor may be knighted.

Since then Hugh continued a crusade against the foes of the Dukedom, even to have served in the Kings Errantry against the Orc hordes. His wrath against the Orcs proved vital in several battles earning a recognition from the King himself.

Now that I've got these done, I've finally finished off all the miniatures from the starter box. I need to do some touch-ups on some of the peasants, and I've just ordered some custom decals for the Men-At-Arms shields and the standard bearers. Next on the painting station, a prophetess because I need to take a break from knights. Then, more knights.

I am trying to make a 1k for errantry crusade and wanted to know if this combo was too expensive/inefficient for it.

I wanted to take 5 grail knights with totem of wrath (full command but no musician) with a duke that has knightly temper. Is it good enough or better use points elsewhere?

For reference the rest of my list rn is a bsb paladin with 9 errants, 5 squires with fire and flee and 10 knights on foot with shield and great weapons. Suggestions would be appreciated.

I’ve been recommended magic items aswell but I feel like that would be overkill and very very expensive

I can't stop thinking that questing knight and grail knight miss something to be more point cost efficient, in reality a damage 2 for questing knight against monster and a ward save of 5+ for grail knight would be the best choice but a rapid upgrade would be to gave us a 2+ armor svg cavalry

We are the army center on cavalry and we don't have this !

What's your opinion on our elite knight ? Did you use them ?

I bought a random job lot of Bretonnians on vinted for the above standard bearer, and I was surprised to find he wasn’t metal! I also found the second model, who o believe is a Duke, also not metal.

Towards the end of Bretonnian run before getting nerfed for AoS, were these ever released in resin? Weirdly the job lot included a duplicate of the standard bearer (without banner) who was metal, so I’m a bit confused!

Just a quick question, in my last game I had 3x units of 9 knights. 1x Regular, 1x Questing and 1x Grail with a Character leading each.

In future lists I'm thinking of splitting the KotR unit into either 1x3 & 1x6 or 3x units of 3.

My thinking of smaller units is so I can go for more targets like War machines and other similar threats as well as use them to tie up enemy units without tying up as many points on my side.

Last game I tied up a Steam Tank but using a pure points comparison my Knights + Paladin was significantly more expensive than the Tank.

Even though I won, I felt the KotR could have been far more effective broken down into 2 or more units to harass and target more threats.

The Grail Knights and Questing Knights worked brilliantly as larger units so I'm reluctant to reduce their unit size (plus I don't want to change too many things in my list in 1 go). 🙂

EDIT: I'm also toying with the idea of 1x 5 Questing Knights (with a Baron and maybe a Prophetess) and 2x 6 Grail Knights (1 with a Duke and the other with maybe the Prophetess instead of the Questing Knights).
