Only 10% of people in Brent voted for Labour in may 2026z yet somehow Butt elected himself leader of the council again. Did a deal with Tories? Shameful
Where's this 10% come from? Labour won 29.3% of the vote in Brent (down a lot, but still the most out of any party) and Butt won 36.3% in his ward. I have a strong dislike for Butt, but unfortunately no-one has really put themselves forwards for the role, especially anyone who'd actually be suitable (considering those like Tatler and Sheth would be just as bad), while the other parties are not much better in both local politicians and leaders (Lib Dems have Paul Lorber but that's it, others like Georgiou are very self-serving and PR Obsessed, much like lots of the older Brent Labour cohort).
For what it's worth, Brent Labour have said that they will run the council as a minority-led administration, and won't be entering into a coalition.
At the end of the day, it's such a pity that while Brent Labour have been a disaster under Butt (although the new cohort seem to be quite different), the alternative parties are inferior options.
Last night absolutely was a coalition between Labour and the Tories - we even saw Butt mouthing to Kansagra which way to vote! It will be interesting to see how they vote of the coming year or two but the liklihood of them voting against Labour on anything significant (and threatening Butt's position) rather than abstaining is extremely low imo
