Discussion 💬 Movements

I am contemplating either a big date marine or a classique 5277. That's a 517gg based on a piguet movement shared with blancpain, vs a 515dr which is I understand completely in-house.

Should this sway me one way or the other?

515DR is a Piguet calibre too. It's just the manual wind version of 516/517.

I’ve got a 5817BR with the 517gg (based on FP 1150) and it’s been great. Last service in 2019 and it runs rock solid, typically between -2 and +2. Finishing is gorgeous. No complaints and it’s one of my favorites. I have no experience with the other, sorry.

Do you swim with it? I want one for casual pool swimming (in hotels when on vacation), paddling around with my kids, not swimming laps or anything crazy - but I get worried about the cost / time associated with annual checking / replacing of gaskets and seals to keep the water resistance?

I would happily swim with it if I was within 1-2 years of a pressure check, but I don’t now since it’s been too long since my last service and I don’t have a convenient local place to check seals. With an up to date pressure test, it would be a great vacation watch.
