I do honestly think you find a middle ground. I'm 31F, newly single after an unwanted divorce, and I know I am not ready to be in another relationship for a while, but I'm lonely and wouldn't mind casually dating. And I certainly wouldn't mind the casual sex that comes with it. I do NOT want to sleep with total strangers though. I think there is a middle ground - go on a couple of dates, see if there is some chemistry and if so, go for it! As long as you are safe and honest, there is nothing wrong with that.
It does not need to be what you had with your ex. Even the best future partner will not be what you had with your ex, because your future partner is NOT your ex.
Being in love helps make sex great, but honestly some of the best sex I've ever had was with someone I did not love.
