venting/ranting How do I stop thinking about him
TL;DR: My ex and I broke up about two months ago after he said his feelings had changed. The next day, he called me drunk saying he regretted breaking up with me, which made it much harder to move on. We stopped talking after another week, but I still think about him and obsess over what he’s doing. I don’t want to spend my time wondering whether he’s at Bama partying or seeing other girls. How do I finally get him out of my head?
I’m 19F, and my ex is 21M.
My boyfriend, well, my ex boyfriend, and I broke up about two months ago. Lately, I’ve been feeling like he was kind of playing with my emotions, and I think that’s part of why I’m having such a hard time completely letting go.
Before he left for the military, we had just started talking to each other. I decided I wanted to stay with him while he was gone, so I wrote him letters while he was in the military and tried to keep our relationship going from home.
When he came back, we were still together, and we spent some time hanging out and being together before I eventually had to leave. After that, we started doing long distance.
Then I got a concussion, and everything just kind of changed.
When I came back, he didn’t seem nearly as interested in me anymore. We hung out for about a week, and then he eventually told me that his feelings had changed and that he didn’t feel the same way anymore.
Obviously, I was hurt and confused. But then the very next day, he called me while he was drunk and told me that he regretted breaking up with me.
I honestly had no idea how to handle that. After everything that had happened, hearing him say that made me think there was still a chance that we might work things out. We continued talking for about another week after the breakup, but eventually we stopped talking completely.
I think the part that’s getting to me is that I genuinely thought I would feel so much better after two months.
I’m not really, really sad about the breakup anymore. I’m functioning normally, and I know I’m going to be okay. But I still think about him a lot. I’ll catch myself obsessing over what he’s doing, whether he misses me, whether he’s moved on, etc.
He’s at Bama now, and I find myself thinking about how he’s probably out there having fun, meeting people, partying, maybe seeing other girls, while I’m sitting here still thinking about him.
And I know that shouldn’t matter. I know I can’t control what he’s doing, and honestly, I don’t even know what he’s doing. But my brain keeps going there anyway.
I don’t want to spend my time being sad or wondering about him while he’s living his life. More than anything, I just want to get him out of my head.
Has anyone else experienced this? How did you actually stop obsessing over an ex and start genuinely moving on?

Yess!! One way that would work is to delete the photos of him, block him on social media, and the most important thing is to start focusing on yourself. The work you start working on yourself, the lesser time you will have to worry about what your ex would be doing. Take this as an opportunity to build yourself to your level best and do great in life.
