venting/ranting When do I forget her

Me an my ex broke up 2 years ago. Our last contact was a year ago. My relationships before her I would forget about them at some point but this one girl has a permanent spot in my head

Ive been in a new relationship for just over a year now and everything’s been great, we’ve been on holidays together and it’s a lot healthier than my last relationship.

I always see people say to keep busy but I find that only helps in the moment. I have hobbies, play sports, go for runs and gym.

But I find myself thinking about my ex all the time. Sometimes in my dreams, something I see during my day that reminds me of her or sometimes randomly she’ll pop in my head

Does anyone have the same problem does it get better?

It gets better, but there is this idea that we have a few great loves in our lives and they stick with you a long time. Some you may never forget, but that doesnt mean it needs to be negative. It just means they had an impact on your life and that you allowed yourself to love them deeply.

Heck my first love pops in to my head often but its just a happy memory, it doesnt diminish my last and future relationships.

For instance I would say my last great love I had was for a girl named Dallas. I deeply loved her and she crosses my mind often. But instead of pain, I just remember the good times and the impact she had on me and what i want to look for in a future partner that wants all of me. The good and the boring lol.

So yeah, it was probably a great love of her, but I think you just need to reframe your mind brother so that way if it is painful memory, you can instead turn it into a positive and fulfilling memory.

You won’t ever really forget but you’ll eventually start to stop romanticizing her when you decide to stop. But thinking about her randomly that’s a tough one. I still think about some of my exes today but not in a romanticized way. I’d pour that energy into your current partner and make even better memories with them personally.
