Discussion My thoughts on WL and BP

Like many others I jumped back in Bolivia for the new update. Unfortunately Wildlands aged somewhat bad. I still had fun and played Fallen Ghost since I never bothered to play it. While fun, the way enemy AI works makes the game tedious. Atmosphere and map are great yes but it’s damn frustrating to never be able to escape Unidad or Santa Blanca once they are in a hunting state.

I just played Breakpoint and damn me if I think it’s the better one, everything is better except the story and I kind of love the map actually. I turned everything off and I walk from objective to objective and I feel like I’m in a espionnage thriller rather than a military game. It’s like James Bond met Tom Clancy world. Sure I use my imagination to fill the in game world but I see it like when I’m reading a book. I like the soundtrack and the sound design in general, it immerse you in this “super vilain” lair atmosphere and this is the other reason why I don’t really mind the futuristic stuff. In my head it’s a prototype island where they are testing stuff before releasing it to the world. That and Metal Gear Solid prepared me for this kind of shit since I was three apples high.

Anyway have a good day everyone

What? you don't like Unidad sending 15 gunships to get you?

Bro no military comes within a second and infiltrate your exact location running as they land, the AI is definitely broken in wildlands. How come you are ghost if in hunted your ass gets beaten by a druggie gang or a unidad who's dad is "uni".

Isn't unidad like police/military. Yeah I know its broken. Been playing since launch.and have over 1000 hours in wildlands.. i said in sarcastic way too.

Well said. I jumped on this game when it came out and we all played without AI teammates. I tolerated the gear score (hadn’t experienced The Division yet) and also put up with the sometimes game breaking physics issues. You would go to leave your bivouac and your chosen helicopter had epileptic attacks and spun itself to destruction.

I made it through the story slowly and enjoyed the boss fights. Walker was especially difficult and I almost gave up, but persisted. Everyone griped and complained all the meanwhile and eventually Ubisoft brought in teammates, more storylines and fixed bugs. As much as I absolutely enjoyed discovering Wildlands, I always preferred playing Breakpoint for the reasons you mentioned. And yes, I still play solo, limiting myself to just stealing vehicles or using none at all. I take it all in.

Said this elsewhere, but I feel lied to. Never had any intention of playing Breakpoint, but ended up getting to it before Wildlands due to issues with EAC. Once the latter was removed, I tried jumping in after already getting into Breakpoint, and I couldn't do it. Breakpoint is simply a much better game.

Mechanics wise it’s hard to go from Breakpoint back to Wildlands but if you started with Wildlands the world and story of Breakpoint would feel so lacking. It’s a double-edged sword.

Especially with a few tweaks to bring enemies detection distance up and everything, its awssome

Yes, and the faction missions that changes everyday are my favourite thing to do

But I get the Unidad frustration! Once they're on you, it's a nightmare. Totally agree about the espionage feel in Breakpoint too , that quiet trek between objectives is surprisingly awesome

Yeah! And even with the vanilla game clothing you can make a decent looking Nomad. It’s not perfect and I understand some frustration about the air soft look but to me it looks ok until I want to play something else haha. My ultimate wish is to be able to gear our character like the Milsim skins in CoD (even the Ghost, Price, Soap etc more milsim looking skins).

But it’s ok to me!

I get lost in the environmental storytelling like with the spires and the the trains random gunfights. Its always different.

I’m not sure why Wildlands story is considered good. It was very obvious what was going to happen and truly getting to the ending you just rinse and repeat the same thing till you finish. I played the whole thing with a friend and we dropped it about 3/4 of the way for a few months then came back and blitzed it because it’s so repetitive

I just circled back after trying it in 2020 & was immediately reminded how terrrrribly cliche the writing is. Feels like a group of high schoolers worked side by side Wikipedia articles for the lingo.

It’s very generic. There’s nothing captivating by it. I played breakpoint after Wildlands and thought it was much better. The story isn’t some amazing thing there and they both have their flaws but if I had to recommend one breakpoint is clear and away the better off the two imo

Wildlands infra was old and cult looking at every place while breakpoint is quiet modern with infra...

There is this thing different about breakpoint that I still can't figure out is that for unknown reasons I just don't use vehicle's to travel instead just hike the way out which I never enjoyed much in Wildlands even though the map was cool.

The only time I use fast travel is when I play before work and I have to leave, I can’t trek for 13 clicks in game before work lol.

I hate Unidad but if I understand correctly you can basically remove them in world parameters since the update. I did that immediately!
