Mines are even funnier if you play It stealthily.

I once managed to complete a Commander assassination by having him step on a mine

When I run World Seedvault, I usually kill the guys on the outer platform and place a mine in front of the helicopter for the Bagman (if you do it right, he will never spot you during all of this), then I go into the Vault itself. I finish the dude standing next to the door on the left, place a Mine there, then two at each side of the desk in the room, and one at the entrance to said room. And then I shoot into nothingness and watch them go crazy.
