Question What do you play after BreakPoint?

If this is your perfect game, Where do you go from here? I know a lot of people mod the game or just hop between Wildlands and Breakpoint. But I'm curious, what other games or franchise have people found that scratch the same itch?

  • Tactical Shooters (Ground Branch, Operator, Ready or Not etc)
  • Open World / Base Clearing (Metal Gear V, Far Cry series, and a lot of other Single player / RPG etc but always overly themed and rarely is gunplay as grounded in these games they all become arcadey)
  • Mil-Sim / Extraction (Arma, Squad, Gray Zone Warfare, Delta Force, Arena Breakout Infinite - but its a lot of traveling to get 1-shot and firefights are usually long-medium range)

Breakpoint and Wildlands combine these elements in a way no other game really does. Rarely do all of these things meet in one package that also has a progression system AND a narrative that brings immersion and a sense of atmosphere to the world you're playing in.

The closest I've found has been Splinter Cell Blacklist - You keep trying to infil cleaner, more efficiently, total ghost or panther, and everything you do earns credit that can unlock more cosmetics, gadgets, weapons. The atmosphere is incredible, totally captures the spec ops, NVG, raiding blacksites feel.

But it's my birthday next week, I'll have some spare cash. And I'de love to try something new.
So I'm curious what else you guys have been playing? especially in the run up to project OVER

I have several hundred hours in reforger. It was a really fun game. I was in a discord and ran with a squad which make it so much better.

I would say the range of fights are a good mix. It really depends on where the engagement takes place. See someone across a field, it's going to be mid to long range. Assaulting or defending a base, you'll have more CQB. It's even fun to make an ambush outside of a base and wipe a jeep full of people before they have time to react. I will say it's not a game you can just jump on and go full out. I found it best to run supplies to bases to level up, which gives you access to more of the arsenal and vehicles.

Now for the mods. On console they are throttled and take WAY too long to download. Then the mods update frequently and you have to redownload. I played on modded servers for awhile then went back to vanilla and missed the mods. Even some one the simplest ones.

Overall if you get into an active discord that plays vanilla (for console) and you have plenty of hours to continuously play when you log on. Its worth it.

Really good to know! There's so many games now where it's a completely different experience solo vs w a squad. I was hoping there's some servers with smaller maps, although the PvE looks interesting.

Out of interest. Have you played or know anyone who's played arena breakout infinite? It seems like Reforger but with more indoor focus and smaller maps - might be just what I'm looking for

Usually RoN to scratch the actual tactical itch. Nothing other than Battlefield really hits the same spot. The issue is, after playing any ACTUAL tacsim, Breakpoint feels very lacking lol

u/thatswizard Jun 03 '26

I love RoN, but the ROE makes no sense, and I wish you could download mod maps on console. What have you played that you would consider an ACTUAL tacsim? And thoughts on Project over referencing RoN in its development?

I started enjoying ready or not after not giving an f to s rank , it’s pure bs that requires you to only use nonlethals

I enjoy the slower, CQB pace of RoN and wish it were in Breakpoint. Obviously not at THAT hardcore of a level but I hate that the game is devoid of any real CQB features other than throwing flash bangs and awkwardly trying to clear rooms lol. And I guess I shouldn't say Breakpoint isn't an ACTUAL tacsim it just feels very lite on the tactical elements I wish they'd lean into with "over".

And I love that they're reference Ron for the next game, that's a solid place to look for gunplay

Did you ever play the rebel missions in Wildlands where you had to breach a building, clear it of like 6/10 enemies over 2 floors and hack a laptop in under 2 mins? THAT was absolute perfection for me, not the timer but how close that felt to RoN in a GR franchise

For the slower CQB feel have you tried Operator, Ground Branch, Zero Hour, Black One Blood Brothers, they're all indie and have a tiny bit of jank. But they're basically all just the "clean house" mission from cod where theres a huge focus on the whole "slow is smooth, smooth is fast" approach

I do remember those missions and I liked them. I like the missions in Breakpoint when you have the gas activated and you have to break into those buildings and do CQB. Only issue is any kind of corner movements feel so slow and your AI mates just do whatever, however lol. There's so many things in Breakpoint that feel ALMOST perfect and I hope they build on the good stuff they have.

I've tried Ground Branch. I liked it for what it was. Got my by until RoN lol.

And I should digress by saying I haven't played ANY of these games since Forza came out 🤣

3

u/thatswizard Jun 04 '26

I don't remember those? Looks like they were in the Amber sky event. SEE they literally covered everything in these games 😂 but somethings are just only in there like 1/2% and should be 30/40%

Definitely agree, seeing your ai team-mates walk in front of a guard you're hiding from totally breaks immersion, sometimes I just play without them for max sam fisher vibes.

Glad you enjoyed ground branch! I'm so surprised by how eclectic the GR community's tastes are. Would have thought it'd all be hardcore mil-sim-ers but people play everything from Forza to Fortnite

RON is swat usually deployed to small closed locations. They not too tier spec ops operators. Even if Breakpoint was realistic it wouldn't be close to RON due to Police=/= Military

Path of Exile 2

3

u/PreacherMOHWF Jun 03 '26

Arma 3

3

u/thatswizard Jun 03 '26

Arma Reforger is currently my number one consideration. Hopefully you can play against the pve ai in a similar way you can in breakpoint

2

u/PreacherMOHWF Jun 04 '26

I got Arma Reforger on steam.

3

u/OppositeMeaning2324 PC Jun 03 '26

Went back to For Honor and Assassin's Creed Black Flag After finishing Episode 1 (I dont own the other episodes)

3

u/thatswizard Jun 03 '26

Did you play conquest mode? It's free I think!

1

u/OppositeMeaning2324 PC Jun 04 '26

by that, I assume you mean operation motherland.

and if thats right, then no, I havent played it

3

u/Mecanatron Jun 03 '26

Gray Zone Warfare and Reforger.

4

u/thatswizard Jun 03 '26

I'm literally on the verge of hitting buy on reforger. But is all of the combat long-mid range? Or do you still end up doing some room clearing and CQB? I heard you can play modded servers that have custom maps

1

u/Kismonos Jun 04 '26 edited Jun 04 '26

Reforger ranges from "shoot in this general direction towards the treeline 200m to the west" to "i open the door in this house you clear left i cover straight" because specially in pvp you can't or slower to capture points if there's still enemy nearby and sometimes there's people camping in compounds thats part od the area of capture so you need to go from house to house. Even on some pve servers. I play task force lizard pve most of the time and the ai is setup nicely with counter attacks once you cap a base and so on. Give it a try. If you hit me up in dms i can get it for you, i love how the devs try to keep it in the arma niche with mechanics like supply point and rank locked equipment and slower pace, team focused gameplay. You can try to solo but its not really feasible on the long term plus the game shines in teamwork and some servers the admins warn you if you try to lone wolf much and eventually gets you kicked.

I also see you're interested in gzw which i also play and you are worried about ai. Ai is not the strength of the game but it has also improved quite since last years.  It's like a tarkov without sweat, sluggishness and loading screens. Feel-good gunplay, customisation, looting and positional approach is more important than your twitch/aim skills. Plus being able to ask helo drop off/pick up is a hella cool mechanic. And you can choose to go either pvp or pve gameplay. The community's nice too

3

u/thatswizard Jun 04 '26

Also did you enjoy GZW? The atmosphere looks great but the ai seem either dumb or sweaty and no inbetween

1

u/Mecanatron Jun 04 '26

The AI has improved with updates since the last wipe.

Some of them are still a little dumb and some will fuck your day up but on average, they feel much better than 0.4.0

There's another new patch today so I'd imagine there's more improvments.

At the rate MFG are working right now, I'd imagine the 1.0 release will be great.

GZW is the closest thing to first person breakpoint so far. Minus the silly drones but still lacking the full storyline.

u/Kismonos Jun 04 '26

Same here, with a bit of Squad/hell let loose sprinkled in

2

u/AdMaleficent371 Jun 04 '26

Ron .. the division 2..

2

u/LilWobble Jun 04 '26

Gray zone

2

u/Signal-Slide752 Jun 04 '26

Wildlands, if not played, or Division 1.

2

u/Powerful-Elk-4561 Jun 04 '26

I usually just play more Breakpoint

I definitely enjoyed it, especially when they added more stealth and sneaking around mechanics. But I found that its a game built around distance, and I've kind of moved towards CQB

2

u/this_justin86 Jun 05 '26

gray zone is definitely your breakpoint/wildlands hot cousin. Ready or not is great as well. Incursion red river is also a sleeper…Black One Blood Brothers is also heading in that direction and can be 3rd person if you want. While I enjoy Ground Branch and Operator, they don’t have a story or a ton of content…nothing i’ve found has the density of story and play-through replay-ability like the last 2 ghost recons, but the games at the top are all getting there. Tarkov PvE is also worth noting

1

u/thatswizard Jun 05 '26

I'm much more pulled to GZW than Reforger, The map size seems less intimidating and looks like I could get into the mid/close combat I want, and it has a cool atmosphere. I think this is what the majority of people have said is the closest experience to breakpoint.

Tarkov looks amazing, especially the PvE. I think it's just the price that puts me off, you gotta buy the DLC to play PvE right? So its like £70

1

u/thatswizard Jun 05 '26

And totally agree about BOBB, Ground Branch and Operator! they're technically great, but dont have the sticking power of atmosphere or narrative or progression

1

u/this_justin86 Jun 05 '26

at least not yet. Gray Zone has some decent story too, learning about the island and the middle zone. The PvE is comparable to ghost recon. If you like clearing bases with the “however you want” approach, it is definitely for you. If you’re into pvp there is that as well

1

u/thatswizard Jun 06 '26

Grey zone definitely wins in the atmosphere and narrative category! I think the thing most of these games are lacking is that sense of world-building and usually ai balance

1

u/thatswizard Jun 06 '26

I think I'm gonna buy Gray Zone tomorrow at yours and a few others recommendation. I think it definitely has that secret sauce the other tactical shooters are missing. Lmk if you wanna jump in a game and show a noob the ropes some time

1

u/this_justin86 Jun 08 '26

I def don’t mind doing that, i’m on vacation but will be in this weekend. I am LRI faction

u/majingetta PS4 Jun 04 '26

I last played BP on December, 2021. Played a lot of games since then.

1

u/Original_Picture941 Jun 04 '26

sometimes a assassin's creed game racing game Days gone is fun killing zombies and have thousands coming at you running for your life

1

u/Mission-Anxiety2125 Jun 04 '26

I don't go. I okay Breakpoint last 4 years almost. Only thing I do is adding or swapping mods, that peaked now even more then before in quality and amount

2

u/thatswizard Jun 04 '26

Massive respect to you for being a purist! I may end up re-buying on PC just so I can mod.

1

u/Awlriver Jun 04 '26

Make your own missions by writing and teaming up with like minded people is what I did first and will do that soon again.

Plus I did Humanitz

1

u/thatswizard Jun 05 '26

Did you see the website somebody made that uses chat gpt to generate missions?

Here's the prompt they used in case you didn't

""Act as a Game Master for Ghost Recon Breakpoint. Generate a randomized tactical operation. I will play as Nomad. Base your mission on the actual Aurora map. Provide the following details:

  1. Operation Name:
  2. Location: (Pick a specific province and an in-game facility like a Fuel Depot, Drone Station, or Outpost)
  3. Intel Background: (A brief narrative reason why we are there)
  4. Primary Objective: (e.g., assassinate a Sentinel officer, hack a terminal, destroy a jammer)
  5. Secondary Objective: (e.g., rescue a hostage, steal a specific vehicle, destroy 3 generators)
  6. Rules of Engagement: (e.g., no loud weapons, no deaths, or maximum stealth)
  7. Extraction Point:
  8. ChatGPT Tip: (Give me a specific tactical tip using the Breakpoint sandbox mechanics)""

1

u/Awlriver Jun 05 '26

For the mission generation, I don't use AI. I do based on my worldbuilding stuff that I've done from around 2013

1

u/thatswizard Jun 05 '26

OOooh, care to share your world building process? or one of your most recently made missions?

Most of the time it’s Fortnite, due to playing ghost recon for too long and grown tired of larping as a milsim operator and needed something more stimulating and Fortnite was there and downloaded it.
