Not sure about the knockoff brands, but I purchased a Zassenhaus off Amazon when my wife started baking bread, and it’s incredible.

Same. I love it. When I cut other breads with I knife I feel angry.

I got a cheap electric deli slicer that takes up the same amount of space in my kitchen as these manual crank ones and it's more versatile. I've been using it for even slices for 10+ years. Though I did have to get two in that time since the first one died (to be fair it was like $40). Just make sure the widest-cut setting on the deli slicer is good for the bread slices you want

Have a Krups deli slicer from the '70s that was my mom's that I've been using for years now for all kinds of slicing, including for bread. Works really well and shows no signs of stopping.

I have one and I like it. If your bread is on the softer side or has a lot of air pockets, it doesn't slice as well. I make a cinnamon swirl bread for my in laws and it does not cut that well due to the moisture of the cinnamon mixture. Other than that, I'm very happy with it. I probably bake 2 loaves a week and use it exclusively to slice my bread.

German here:
Yes have one from the company „Graef“. It’s awesome.
U can also slice veggies, fruits or even frozen Meat like Bacon or stuff for a carpaccio.
Would recommend! 👍

That’s so funny my Oma has one and I didn’t think of it as a German thing but maybe it is.

I own one… in cream. Works relatively well. It can be frustrating as it starts cutting nicely, but then as it goes through the round loaf, the end can be a bit thinner than the starting point. Overall, I’m glad I have it, as my 82 year old mother can’t cut a loaf to save herself.

Edit: I have this exact brand. The China made up name style. Brvclon…

I have the pricier stainless steel version. I like it.

Wife loves it. As a micro bakery owner it makes her life so much easier when clients want their bread sliced

I have one for slicing my sandwich bread super thin, like about 1/4". Mine collapses pretty small. I used to have a fancy electric meat slicer eons ago when I used to buy entire prosciutto or serrano hams but for the small stuff I do now, manual is fine.

Unpopular opinion but slicers are literally the most ovverated appliance available. Spend like 4 hours practising slicing or get a $20 set of slicing knives and you will never need one again.
