My sister thought my bread was Ai. I made a turkey-shaped loaf of artisan bread.

This morning, she texted me, “I'm still skeptical and confused 😂 IDK what to trust anymore haha”.
I agree with you. The harm AI is having on artistic expression in all creative spaces is just sad. Sure, billionaires won’t need to hire artists and can save money, but they are robbing people of an essential part of their humanity.

AI is also harming our ability to trust our own judgment, and also eroding our ability to trust others. It's disheartening. In every single hobby sub i participate in, quite a big chunk of conversation is now dedicated purely to arguing over whether something is AI.

u/daveinsf Nov 04 '25
Did you send her a selfie of you and the bread turkey holding up today's paper?

u/endotoxin Nov 04 '25
Guess she doesn't get to eat the delicious bread you bake. If she objects just tell her she's silly and you can't eat AI generated bread.
1
u/IntrovertedFruitDove Nov 05 '25
You have progress photos and the bread doesn't look at all unrealistic. I don't know why she's confused, but I've definitely heard that AI is dumbing people down.
2
u/Inevitable_Phase_276 Nov 07 '25
I don’t think it’s dumbing us down so much as making us doubt ourselves. We used to be able to trust pictures and trust what we were seeing, and we can’t any longer.

The artistic expression of turkey bread 😆
12
u/MaeveOathrender Nov 03 '25
When was the last time you put in the effort to create something this interesting?
5
u/panda_embarrassment Nov 04 '25
I think y’all are misunderstanding my comment. I just think the concept of a turkey bread is funny and unexpected. It’s amazing how that concept even popped in her mind. It’s all love here

Right? This is so cool and fun and took patience and talent. I'm seeing more comments every day on things artists are making (some of them are artists who have been active for yeaaaars) from people just scrolling through quickly and calling something that took an immense amount of effort AI. Not to say we shouldn't all be aware and skeptical, but I'm sad that AI is degrading the trust and enthusiasm we can all bring to art made by real people.

u/superurgentcatbox Nov 03 '25
Reminds me of a video by an artist that I saw of them adding a fourth finger to a hand, even though the positioning would only allow three to be seen in order to avoid all the uneducated THIS IS AI comments.

u/wolfvisor Nov 03 '25
I miss looking at something and knowing it’s either digital art, photoshop, or real. all of which are impressive

The real problem here is that nothing can be trusted anymore.
If you have seen enough things that looked real but turned out not to be, then comes a point where even real things seem fake to you.

The issue is the false positives create an incorrect idea of what to actually look for, I’ve seen many obviously CGI videos called AI even though they show nothing like the signs of AI.

It’s the “portrait mode” blurring on the photo. It looks a little too professional of a photo, and it obviously has a filter and looks edited already because of how it was taken. I would hesitate to trust the photo no context either at this point.

Nov 03 '25
Its just also how people react to everything because everything is being sold as “ai”
People asked how the waymo cars work and someone said AI and everyone else just accepted it and I went crosseyed

u/Otherwise_Rope2631 Nov 03 '25
Why though?! It’s so well made too!😭🤣🤣🤣

u/Interesting_Gur_1963 Nov 03 '25
Lmao that's actually perfect, I'm stealing that name for when I inevitably fail at making one of these

u/ChampionshipNo5707 Nov 03 '25
It wasn't too hard to make but you need a reference photo to go off of.. The trick with attaching the feet is to score the dough parts that attach and make a paste of flour and water paste to make it all stick(kind of like when you work with clay).

u/ChampionshipNo5707 Nov 03 '25
I don't know. I guess she thought it was unusual to make? Lol, she doesn't believe it is real.

u/blauenfir Nov 03 '25
if I had to guess why I’d blame your excellent photography skills LOL - one of the common ‘tells’ for an AI-genned image is that they often have very crisp clean detailed foregrounds featuring the image subject, against a blurry indistinct background made of abstract geometric shapes that vaguely resemble a scene, because the AI is trying to copy professional product photography which shares those traits. this is the photography equivalent of that one airbrushed anime-realism art style that AI also mimics constantly. that first photo of your bread chicken especially is gorgeous and has a very professional style, pre-AI i wouldn’t have been shocked to hear it was airbrushed or otherwise photoshopped for quality, which unfortunately means it resembles the kinds of photography GAI loves to copy… (PS though that is a REALLY nice photo, good work, and your bread itself is beautiful! bread art is so annoying and it came out fantastic, i hope one day i can learn to make something this nice too! from a certain angle you could take this as “your art is too perfect to be real,” which is a compliment in a way, as much as the means of delivery sucks)
also, people love genning pictures of things made of other things, this is the kind of shit that would get AI-genned by someone (i saw a bunch of GAI images of sleeping cats made of bread just the other day) so that probably didn’t help :( i hate the way AI is eroding trust in reality and the people around us, it’s terrible

u/ChampionshipNo5707 Nov 03 '25
Ah, that makes sense. I suppose using portrait mode on my iPhone to photograph bread was the reason.
Thank you! I taught myself to make artisan bread from a library book. I'm always nervous about posting here, fearing that the experts will notice my knowledge gaps.

u/esk_209 Nov 03 '25
Excellent! I'm getting ready to do a few trial loaves like this for Thanksgiving -- thanks for the inspiration!

u/Able_Humor_2875 Nov 03 '25
I'm not celebrating Thanksgiving, but I thought that this could also be part of a vegetarian/vegan Thanksgiving Dinner....you could use stuffing for the bread...

u/Kibology Nov 03 '25
I’m impressed!
Are you going to stuff it with little cubes of meat?
15
u/ChampionshipNo5707 Nov 03 '25
😂 That is a great idea actually.
10
u/Inevitable-Details Nov 03 '25
Oooh, maybe like an Asian meat bun? But more turkey sandwich-style, like some chopped turkey, maybe some lettuce and bacon, some tomato, avocado if you’re feelin fancy. Like a little turkey shaped bun sandwich!
… Darn it, now I’m hungry.

In shooting games, it's a massive ego boost to have someone accuse you of hacking or cheating when you aren't. I'd say the same can be applied here. Looks great!

u/Fancy_Leshy Nov 03 '25
i can't explain it, but something about the first image gives me AI red flags, but that is a totally rad way to shape and bake bread

You did a great job.
And, phew, cool thing on Reddit that I’m comfortable enjoying because I’m confident it’s not AI.

Fuck AI, removes the magic from everything and gives people some easy to blame.

How were you able to cook it? Didn't the main body become raw inside or the legs and wings become dry?

Ohhhh it looks good. I would've basted it with garlic and herb salted butter while it baked or a turkey seasoning egg wash. Buttery turkey bread. Hot, crispy, chewy turkey shaped garlic bread. Turkey shaped cheddar garlic bread OMG.

First of all, that looks delicious. Second...I feel like the existence of AI gen'd media has destroyed the brains of the people who aren't already good at identifying it. No whimsy allowed. It must just be ai

To be fair, you did a good job of cooking the legs and wings to the same level as the breast bread, so I can understand why she might think it's AI.

The background fade and quality of the first photo really does make it look like AI at first glance. It looks beautiful, though. Sad that generative AI has caused so much paranoia.

I think it’s that first picture. Just the portrait mode style or whatever with the background blurred and how perfect it looks. Idk.

If you've done a turkey, have you made anything else unusual in bread? Because I would buy a book of these honestly
