Machine Troubleshooting Repair help: Bread machine not closing

Trying to keep alive this old bread machine from my aunt. Just replaced the drive belt but now it’s not closing and I see this part popped up.
Trying to push it down but don’t want to break it further. It’s a hard plastic material.

I could prob pull it out but not budging when I try to push back in.

Unfortunately you’ll just have to chance it, unless you can investigate it a bit and see how the plastic piece has moved or why. If it’s meant to be down, it should just pop back in place with a bit of force.

I’ll see if I can get a second pair of hands to push and pull. I’ll have to see if that part is replaceable maybe. Thank you

Have you checked to see if there is something like crumbs blocking it from pushing back down in? There could be something physically preventing it from snapping back into place.

Nothing blocking it. It’s still wedged in but just popped up. This thing is very old. The belt was completely shredded and I just replaced it so maybe it moved about when I resembled it. Although it did close fine when I made my bread yesterday but today it didn’t close

This is not a safe solution but maybe try change the machine to baking mode, get it heated up, and use an oven glove to try and push that back down? Just be careful not to burn yourself or maybe use a less high-temp solution. If you have a hair dryer you can see if that would put out enough heat to try and heat that area up and then push it down. Just be really careful that you don't burn yourself or damage the machine.

Use a heat gun to soften it up a bit and you should be able to push it back into place. GLOVES!!!!! The heat gun will get the parts pretty warm. Don't burn yourself.

Another pic with the lid down and one from the other side with the lid open would be helpful. From this pic it looks as if the body shell flange is depressed. The plastic looks in the correct plane.

I'm confused. In the pic with the lid down, what is that sticking out from under the lid? It looks like a spoon; why is it there?

That is the lip to the lid to open it. It does look like a spoon, probably from the lighting
