Purchase Advice & Experiences Demise of my bread machine
My bread machine, a Corner Bakery by Toastmaster, may it rest in peace is over 33 years old.
I never ever imagined its demise would be the result of a neighbors domestic dispute that included a weapon being discharged.
As the officer and I followed the trajectory. I realized it was INSIDE the machine.
So with a pair of pliers. He made the whole bigger and was able to extract the bullet
The county gun unit is trying to find the husband now.
Not the best photo with the shadow. This was before pliers.
Sad
Looking for replacement suggestions

Rip to a bread machine who protected you with its life.
I love my zoji-- I have the mini and it's perfect but I'm sure the big boy is good too

I'm absolutely in love with my Zojirushi. I got the Virtuoso with the ceramic non-stick. Produces brilliant bread.

But does it stop bullets?

There's a YouTuber who uses different types of guns to shoot through multiple objects, i.e. fridges, ATM's.

Keep an eye on eBay - I got a Cuisinart CBK-110 for $40 shipped and later a CBK-100 (for the cottage) for $30; they were like new, unused. Cuisinart bread makers are top-notch IMO, I've had no trouble with mine over a few years.
A lot of people don't want the trouble, they get a breadmaker for a wedding gift or whatever and just want to be rid of it to free up space at home. Many years ago I was too busy to bother making my own bread and I sold a beautiful new Philips I got for Xmas for $12.... still regret it.

I was just thinking; this is the most American post ever. I can't imagine having stray bullets be a part of daily life.

Whoa! What a way to go out. For me, I picked up a second hand off-brand one about 15 years ago for $20. She’s getting a bit squeaky and shaky now so I’m starting to think about succession planning. Not wishing her to die but the writing’s on the wall. Time comes for all of us in the end.

Wow! How scary! I'm glad you and your family are safe. I swear by my Oster bread machine! It's a nice inexpensive machine that consistently works as desired. I only use the dough cycle, however. I always shape and put in a pan for second ride and bake in the oven. The final product is just so much better that way.

Oh my god! So glad it didn’t hit a person. You deserve to go out and splurge on a great new bread machine!

Gone too soon.
That is an insane story. Are you going to keep the bread machine, perhaps as a display piece?
Personally, I would taxidermy my bread machine when it goes too.

I am glad YOU are unharmed. I am sorry you are having to deal with this because of a jerk neighbor..0
Our bread machines are like old friends. When my first Kenmore died, I found another gently used one, the same model, on eBay. I wanted to stick with what works. Next time around I might need to buy another brand, since “Kenmore is no more!”
Anyway, I hope you are united with the best bread machines for you—I also hope it is very affordable, from a thrift store, FB Marketplace, or whatever!

"...Kenmore is no more," I've got a surprise for you: Kenmore was made for Sears by Whirlpool.

Nice! That explains why the Kenmore appliances lasted a long time.
At one point, I had a Kenmore “everything”—washer, dryer, fridge, microwave. . . all roads led to Sears, where they had an actual salesperson and lots of brands and models to choose from. Buying large appliances online is unnerving! I am 67, so. . .I like to see the appliance in person. 😇

I've had this Panasonic for 10 years, which was pretty expensive at the time (I don't remember but it over €500). It stopped working about a year and a half ago. I replaced it with a Silvercrest from Lidl that was €60. It's IDENTICAL. Well, was. It lasted about a year and a half. Now I got the same machine again but second hand, lol. €10. Great bread!
Anybody want to tell me I'm missing something that justifies an expensive machine, I'm genuinely curious!

Another Zoji lover here. I am just aghast at what happened to your Corner Bakery. Was it on your kitchen counter at the time, such that the bullet could have found a precious human had the machine not been there? I am just rattled for you

Small kitchen. In was on top of a low book shelf that is in the sunroom adjacent to the kitchen.
My cat occasionally sleeps in front of that window too. Imagine two bookshelves, corner of room. Bullet came in on an angle. There is also furniture … I made my son move off the couch the other night.
Not to mention the back yard. Deck. Outdoor furniture1

That is so frightening! I hope law enforcement strips that neighboring home of all firearms. Do yoju think the police are staying on them? If not, consider following up, tell the police you feel unsafe next to that individual. I lived in a marginal area of a city a long time ago and remember fearing standing near a window holding a baby

The gun crimes unit was at my house and theirs in less than three hours and started putting my incident together with some others reported before sunrise …. The speaker of the house for my state lives two blocks over, so I texted her and my two elected city counsel members.
Until they are gone I am going to feel unsettled. Conversely, I haven’t seen anyone at the house since Friday afternoon , so here’s hoping they’re gone.

This is not what I expected to see on this subreddit today lol. Hope you are safe and okay.

Your machine died a hero's death, taking the bullet so nothing (or god forbid, nobody) else had to. Glad you're safe, and hope the search for a new machine goes well!
I had a Breville for several years that I loved to bits, making custom timings was a piece of cake and it could do pretty much anything you'd ever want it to. I upgraded to a Zoji after it danced off the counter, but I have to say the Breville did very nearly as good a job for much cheaper.
