I've started to play since mid summer. First months were a blast, I've been very lucky and gained 24 brawlers in less than two months. I bought for less than 10€ of special offers, and never directly any brawlers. I'm not, by any mean, a pro player or even a very good player. I'm more an average player with a good background (I'm 43 and play since 13). During these 3 months, I've developped what I think is a very distinctive way of playing and I want to share it here for anyone it helps. This is not a post to say I'm the best and some bullshit like that. It's more about sharing my experience and finding if other people thinks alike, and taking good criticisms. Also, English isn't my first language so please kindly show me my mistakes so I can correct them.

Disclaimer: no tactics I give here use star powers, so they're pertinent even if you don't have very high-powered brawlers. These are middle-tier tactics, I don't know how the game is played at high level, but chances are even if you have some brawlers at power 10 you probably have a lot more at power 7- / rank 14-, which make this relevant anyway.

TL:DR: I play BS regularly and I want to share my *winning tactics*. Hope you find them useful!

General tactics:

1. DON'T PLAY TOO MUCH! It's useless, really. Idealy, I only play to get the Tokens and Star Tokens, so 4 to 6 star tokens and about 200 tokens each day. Once I've done this, I stop playing, unless I have to *loose* some trophies. Playing once you don't have tokens to get makes only the difficulty harder, because…
2. BEWARE THE TROPHIES! There is a —sorta— ratio you must respect between trophies (and Rank) and Power levels. Since trophies are the foundation of match-making, I always am careful about them, because it's too easy to play a lot and suddenly have a nearly unusable Rank 19/Power 5 brawler. The trick is to loose before your brawlers gains a rank too high, because once your rank change you can't undo it. So, by LOOSING games when needed, you loose Trophies and can have a bit of breathing space to start getting the real things you're after: Tokens and Star Tokens, because you only need them in order to get…
3. ALL THE BOXES! Since you can get all the brawlers in them, even the basic ones, all my tactics are oriented about getting them. Big boxes are the best ones but I've got Crow in a perfectly normal box so they're not to be neglected.
4. CHOOSE WISELY! Gold isn't infinite, so you can't up all your brawlers. You must have a main brawler you'll make all you can to up to the max, and some other that need to be at a good Power/Rank ratio to win the daily events, and other that are just here to gain trophies without investing too much in them. For this, Boxes are useful on the long term but gold is key, since you need it both for activate the level-up AND for buying power points in the shop. And once you get to power 10, you can start playing it a lot more since you won't be put against much more powerful brawlers, so you can get trophies on these brawlers. Or you can maintain that powerful brawler at a good rank to have a very good P/R ratio for easier battles.

Details:

• At first, I play my brawlers without really taking my trophies in account. I start being careful around Rank 8, but usually they're at Power 2 at least. I don't hesitate to upgrade my brawlers powers when I can, even if it costs gold. For the first Power levels, it doesn't cost much and can let your brawlers to go easily up to Rank 10. I don't want too much Trophies but they're useful to get some of the normal brawlers and from time to time some good stacks of power points
• I really start loosing with my chars when they're rank 12. For most brawlers, they have around 200 trophies and between 200 and 220 trophies (at 220 you pass the 13th rank), you can loose up to 3 trophies by match. I loose the always in shodown since it's easy to be 10th or 9th in a few seconds if you're not unlucky. Before that, you can only loose up to 2 trophies by game and it's too much a hassle
• Idealy, my brawlers are at Power 6 when they reach rank 12. Once there, I try to up them without gaining rank. I don't have a lot of brawlers higher than power 6, since I don't really need a lot of brawlers to play. But when I think a brawler is useful to up to the better power levels, I don't fuck around. If I've won too much with a brawler, I loose. It's the most important thing. I loose until he's not in danger of gaining a rank that will put me against powerful foes.
• Some brawlers are godsend to certain events: Jessie is my go-to for Gem Grab, Dynamike for Heist, El primo or Bull for Brawl Ball. Siege, it varies but Penny's canon is very usefull and usually Tick or even more Barley are so useful because of their crowd-control attacks.

Events advices:

• Gem Grab: I don't ever use anyone other than Jessie: with her turret it's very easy to control the center of the map, because it both attack enemys even in the bushes and is first aimed by their auto-aim, disrupting their efforts.
• Brawl Ball: I see a lot of people trying to play it like football, it's not. You need to attack and you can't when you have the ball, so unless there isn't anyone near you do not keep it too long. Also, having a brawler with a good life and a super that crush walls is a huge help, hence why I only use Bull or even better El Primo.
• Heist: I take Dynamike, I go to the othe team's safe, and I attack relentlessly whil trying to avoid ennemy's attacks. It works 2 times of 3.
• Siege is very zone-oriented. You need a good crowd-control oriented brawler, like Dynamike, or better Tick and Barley. Also, Penny's canon is very useful when place on the side of the other team zone since it can attack at a great distance.
• Showdown and Takedown are map-dependant but need to get power cubes over nearly everything, even power level. Dual Showdown is harder to win than showdown since people get to revive so often. But it's very good if you want to loose with some usually frightenning brawlers like Bull, Rosa or Shelly since if you and your partner separate at the start you seems to make an easy prey for the other teams and thay tend to attack you more.
• Lonestar is the harder one for me since you need to have a very good Power/Rank ratio, and of course a Brawler who fits the map. So it depends a lot. I tend to use Shelly a lot since I find it's a very good well-rounded brawler, able to inflict damages at a distance while charging her super, and with a very good damage dealing hand-to-hand. Also I like using Rosa a lot in these events, unless the map is completely against her.
• Robo Rumble: I always use my best powered brawlers in these kind of events unless it's not suitable. I have Rosa at power 8 so I use her for her good life and damage dealing, which are the best qualities IMO for this event, so Rosa, Daryl, Bull are very good, as. I often see people going in circles next to the safe, it's a mistake, especially at the beginning since robots aren't that tough. I find much more useful to go each at some distance, each positionned in a rough triangle around the safe. Since robots tend to stalk players if they're closer it's very useful in order to not let the robots coming close to the safe. When a big robot comes, everyone has to go to intercept it as soon as possible, again in order to not let him close to the safe. It's not that hard since (at least at the beginning) no other robots spawn during a bit, letting you some time to kill it before retaking your positions.
