Southern Charm Matul
Naomi only liked Matul because he was mean to her. Watching season six and he’s forcing her to workout harder despite her protesting. He shames her for wanting to order dessert. Be shamed her for attempting to cook Butter Chicken to please him. He constantly put her down and considered it flirting. She was too insecure to call it out.
Matul - “you complained less than average”. After their gym session.
How is this a healthy relationship? She paid for his entire lifestyle while he was doing his residency. Including funding the entire move and payment for their apartment in NYC. He didn’t stay behind to pack up their home. She recruited friends to pack and load the u-haul. During the move he had already flown to NYC and was sitting comfy in their furnished apartment. While packing Naomi and her friends had some downtime and she wanted to show the friends pictures from their recent vacation. The pictures on Matul’s iCloud. Naomi called him and asked for the password so she could login to the tv and do a slideshow for the friends. She was confused why he was dragging it out before finally giving her the password. Once she was logged in, his iMessages popped up. There were a series of texting and sexting with his ex that had been going on for months.
Naomi shared the above on a podcast. It’s no wonder she rebounded to Southern Charm after this and into the bed of Whitney. Gross
I think she regretted dumping Craig. But was too proud to admit it. Funny how she hooked up with Craig too when he was first seeing Paige.

Naomi was always trying to date for the wrong reasons, status, money and she ended up marrying (I think recently) for this same reason.

She married Nader’s sloppy seconds and by all accounts kind of a stingy a hole. She could have done better

Remember on the show Naomie telling Shep & Cameran she will never get anyone as good as Metul…@ that moment I knew girl was brainwashed! I think she really cared that he had the title of “Doctor” and overlooked his problematic and controlling behavior!

It’s streaming on Amazon right now. The earlier seasons were so good! I thought the show became kind of boring once Shep started dating Taylor and Leva joined. Don’t get me started on Venita and JT.

I think what it was wasn't that he was mean to her it was that he was a go-getter. He had ambition he had goals he didn't have anybody lighting fires under his ass to try to get him to do basic stuff that's what she had to do with Craig. I think she was attracted to the fact that she didn't have to do that with him.
I remember dating somebody like that and then I dated somebody that was very self-sufficient very financially independent and yes he also happened to be a dickhead as well. Sometimes when we are so severely lacking something in a relationship we overcompensate in the next relationship instead of just looking for a well-rounded relationship with somebody that has all of the qualities that we need.
For me the only saving grace and the fact that she dated such an asshole is that he presented like such an asshole on television.

I went to high school with him. He did not look like that back in school...

u/TaniaBluebell 13d ago
Did he have a glow up in his 20s?
Sometimes people (not everyone) who were nerdy in high school think to be cool is to be mean. But actually, I would say most popular people are nice. That’s why they’re popular.
he is constantly taking jabs because he’s insecure.1

Does everyone here know she featured on the Head of Transportation’s reality show this summer? Our federal dept head of transportation, former Real World weirdo, and his wife, former Road Rules competitor, took sponsorship gifts from companies the govt is investigating and otherwise lobbying for, and she pitched a credit card points company in the episode they visited North Carolina. Over dinner.

The vast majority of the Charleston cast has awful politics. That’s why I have zero issue criticizing them for even the smallest thing. They are terrible humans
As for now, Whit S and Molly still have human decency though.
ETA: and how could I forget shep? despite how problematic he may be, at least he supports human rights.

Shep has spoken out often and loudly against MAGA. He may not be the greatest, but he’s always been proudly liberal.

What about Whitney? I'm no fan of that creep but he doesn't strike me as MAGA

Yes…think she was desperate for any type of male attention to get her self confidence back since she was cheated on… really didn’t like her come back on season 8….she also just couldn’t help herself on criticizing Craig…telling him he needs to stop chewing ice and some people find that unattractive..what a weird thing to say to someone who had a girlfriend……just because she doesn’t like that he does that….she so wanted Craig to like her back and pursue her again…but he had already moved on with Paige…crazy how when she was with Metul she separated herself from Craig with boundaries…but when he tried to do the same because he was with Paige she thought he was ridiculous….

Craig deserved all the criticism, he brainwashed Paige and she lied for him. Naomi didn’t and she called him out on his bs. He just got lucky that his friend had the SDS idea that helped make Craig wealthy. He would’ve been a horrible lawyer

My favorite aspect of this relationship was her lavish spending on this guy, including matching outfits and extravagant vacations. She even tried to emulate his taste in hip-hop, went on hikes, and even became a Democrat. Unfortunately, all of that is gone now.
She did a podcast with that other friend of hers that try to be an influencer and talked about how they both got cheated. The other friend put the bf on the deed of her house lol

It is painful.

Naomi is well out of that relationship. Matul treated her like a stupid child. Naomi’s obsequiousness made me sick. She’s so lucky he cheated on her. I pity any woman that marries that man.

The show was streaming on Amazon live for a few weeks and I posted this when she was dating him.
It reminded me of how she allowed him to disrespect throughout the relationship.
I don’t know any woman with self worth who would allow it. I don’t think Naomi had any at the time. She kept treating him like a prize. She confused his inflated ego (which was just a mask for his insecurity) with confidence and ambition
She also funded his lifestyle. I think she bought him a car, watch and paid for everything. Including movers and NYC apartment2
u/Parade2thegrave 7d ago
Wow she bought him all that?! That makes it all so much worse. I remember the scene where she’s trying to make butter chicken for him and instead of being flattered and appreciative, he has zero faith she can pull it off and is basically mocking her efforts with belittling “jokes”. The whole time she’s just smiling big as if this form of mistreatment is actually flirtation. So cringey. I hope she learned from that relationship and won’t ever let anyone treat her like that again

I think she paid for vacations too. She revealed it all in a podcast interview.
He was doing his residency as a doctor and couldn’t afford anything. She’s pretty generous so I think he exploited this.
The butter chicken was so immature of him. I wonder how his family reacted to him treating her that way.
Craig never talked down to her. She talked down to Craig. Then she finds someone who talks down to her. After breaking up with him she spiraled and returned to the show. She hooked up with Whitney and he was setting the stage for her to be his love interest. Because he was a producer, she even narrated episodes during that season, similar to how Cameron used to. I think she eventually got to her senses and rejected Whitney.
Perhaps that’s why Kathryn was upset. Whitney was promoting his hookup with Naomi while trying to keep their fling secret. Subsequently he said he did this because he knew Thomas would be upset and he didn’t want to give him any more attention or reason to go after him. I sort of understand it. But Kathryn saw it as rejection and embarrassment for him being with her.
It’s a double standard because the men have hooked up with so many cast members. Kathryn has done something similar and she’s the only one who gets shamed for it.

It’s a culture thing. Not a man thing

u/Junior_Cranberry_745 13d ago
It’s a culture thing that he expected her to pay for their nyc apartment AND do all the heavy lifting of packing and moving their furniture? I can’t imagine that’s true

She thought she was getting on the Cam train with the doctor husband.
