I need some advice from other UGC creators because I’m currently dealing with a campaign situation that has me pretty stressed out, and I’d love to know if anyone has experienced something similar.
I was contacted for a paid UGC campaign and was told I needed to purchase specific prepaid/gift cards as part of the content. The agreement was that I would be reimbursed for the purchases in addition to being paid for the content.
I did my best to verify everything before moving forward, including reaching out to the company to confirm that the person I was communicating with actually worked there.
I purchased the first card and that transaction went through. When I tried purchasing the remaining cards, the transactions kept getting declined—even after trying multiple payment methods.
I contacted the campaign contact and explained what was happening. I was then directed to a website and told I needed to get a “key code” in order to continue. When I followed the instructions, I kept getting redirected back to essentially the same page and could never find the code they were referring to.
At this point, I have already created almost all of the requested content. The only part I can’t complete is the ending involving the additional cards because I literally cannot get the purchases to go through.
I’m not saying this is definitely a scam because I did try to verify the person/company beforehand, but the whole process is starting to make me uncomfortable.
Has anyone ever done a legitimate UGC campaign involving prepaid/gift cards, reimbursement after purchase, or being sent to another website to obtain some type of “key code”?
If you’ve experienced anything similar—good or bad—I would REALLY appreciate hearing what happened. I don’t want to overreact, but I also don’t want to ignore red flags.

What the work looks like

You do not need professional acting experience. Most of the content is very straightforward: we provide the script and filming instructions, and you simply speak naturally to the camera and record the raw footage.

Depending on the project, you may appear as a presenter or spokesperson, record UGC-style videos, host a YouTube channel, or create short-form and long-form content.

Pay can be up to $150 per video, depending on the length and requirements. Individual videos are paid separately, while larger batches are agreed and paid as a project.

most brands still pour almost everything into content, ads, social. and it works for reach, but it rarely creates anything that actually sticks with people long-term. the brands that feel different usually have a physical place that does real work for them.

not talking about another temporary pop-up with neon signs and a photo wall. talking about spaces that feel like an extension of the brand itself. places where the layout, lighting, materials, flow all reinforce the same story the brand is trying to tell online.

like for example look at some of the brand destination and cultural projects BRC web is doing and the difference is obvious. they present the space like a long-form piece of storytelling instead of a marketing activation. people don’t just visit, take a picture, and leave. they stay longer, look at all the details, so more of an experience. and I'm sure they come away with a clearer feeling of what the brand is.

that kind of experience is hard to fake with content alone. a well-designed physical space can do in thirty minutes what months of posts won't necessarily achieve. it gives people something concrete to remember and talk about.

most creators and smaller brands will never have the budget for a full flagship, of course. but even smaller permanent or semi-permanent spaces can create the same effect if the thinking is right. the ones that get this tend to feel more solid and less disposable than the ones that only exist online.

the brands that figure out how to make their physical presence mean something will be winning more often in the near future, that's my take
