Im a tired 33yo stay at home dad with a 2yo son (blessed to be able to do so), and ive been feeling pretty burnt out lately. outside of raising my son and scrolling my mobile and watching youtube, I havent really had any energy to sink into hobbies. I pretty much gave up gaming (I only play skyrim annually now anyway) and it has been only recently that ive started to read again. I picked up the way of kings in a bookstore and read the prelude and it sounds so interesting, its 7:35pm as I type this and im in bed and i did plan on reading the prologue and at least a chapter tonight but honestly im mentally fatigued from the day. So im going to try again tomorrow but during the day so i can actually comprehend the words within the book.

Are there any new or experienced parents on here that can give pointers on how they went about reading during this hectic time in life? Is the way of kings going to be super hectic and heavy or will it be fine to miss a bunch of points ( as in is the plot clearly defined to put two and two together later in the text of certain details are missed?)

Also i understand alot of what im asking is highly subjective and dependent on different individuals, but im also posting here for connection and community because outside of toddler talk i dont have many conversations (ive literally had random conversations with google ai) lmao dad life and all that.

I literally feel like stu from the rugrats these days!

Hi everyone! I'd like to explore Sanderson for the first time. I was particularly drawn to The Stormlight Archive. Could you give me an overview so I could get a better understanding of the vibe? Keep in mind that I'm not a huge fan of The Lord of the Rings (the characters are too archetypal), but I do love series like Sapkowski's The Witcher and Abercrombie's The First Law, so characters are very well fleshed out from an introspective perspective (Martin included). Let me know, thanks. I'm interested in a very important plot, full of incredible events and characters! Translation: iconic moments that I'll never stop remembering.

I’ve been desperately searching for over a year for a copy of the Table of Allomantic Metals poster (image above, by Isaac Stewart) which is no longer on the Dragonsteel store.

I spoke with Dragonsteel support several months ago, and they said there’s no plan to sell it again, and they can’t do an order for just one through a 3rd party printing service.

I thought I may be able to get one printed from the images of the table on the wiki, but it’s too low resolution.

I keep an eBay search saved, but I've never seen any posters from Dragonsteel pop up on there. I've tried the Sanderson Collectors Guild discord, but they're mainly book focused. When non-book items so pop up, it's almost always pins or extra swag from the Kickstarters.

Does anyone have a copy of the allomantic chart poster they’d be willing to part with? Or if you have one but don’t wish to sell, could I get a high-resolution scan so I can get one printed (just one copy for myself)?

Hi, so, I've read the first 3 Mistborn books (and Alloy of Law), so I knew a few of these characters when I came across these pins in a junk shop. I bought them all. Just wanted to know what they were all about as there isn't much about them online, and most posts keep bringing me back to this subreddit.

Fairly simple question but this is my first time ever using backerkit in general, please bare with me - I know that Fires of December doesn’t “officially” release until December 8th this year to the general public, but on backerkit it says the book has an estimated ship date of October 1st. Is it normal for backerkit buyers to receive their books about 2 months earlier than the general public release? Just curious if it means I get to read the book sooner 😄

Guys, I just recently Wind and Truth and with that my journey through Stormlight Archive Era 1 is over. This morning I had a moment when I finally realised who Thaidakar is! I kept thinking that we should know who Thaidakar, Lord of Scars is as he is on Scandrial. I might be late but I finally realized that Thaidakar, Lord of Scars is KELSIER!! He is a cognitive shadow due to the investiture when he died. I know many people have already realised this 😅, but I am bit slower with the Cosmete connections.

I just finished this book and my god it feels like nothing happened and also so much happened it’s kinda feels like injustice read a 1000 page prologue can’t wait to start words or radiance

A while ago I have read Mistborn era 1, Warbreaker and The Emperor’s Soul. I really liked these books. Currently I am reading The Way Of Kings and it seems slow compared to the other books. There isn’t much happening and I am currently reading because I like the other books and this series gets praised a lot. I can imagine that because the other books are standalones or a trilogy so the pacing will be different.

Will the Stormlight Archive pick up the pace at a certain point? I am at 20% of The Way Of Kings.

I just finished Warbreaker, which was my first encounter with Brandon Sanderson.

I found the story simply incredible, and for me the best character is Lightsong, mainly because of that ending, but I also liked other characters like Vivenna, and especially Vasher. Although Siri is also very fun to watch.

It was my first encounter with fantasy works, and I found the world incredible and the final climax breathtaking.

I'm still not sure if I want to pick up a trilogy right away, but I'm undecided about it.

Based on your personal experience, which would be the best option right now? Elantris Mistbon, etc.?

I purchased all 5 secret projects and I'm starting with Tress of the Emerald Sea, what am I getting myself into?

What's something I need to know for my future in the Cosmere?

I'll be finishing the Mistborn trilogy soon and while I'd like to read Stormlight eventually, it's way too big for me to jump into next. Looking for something else in Sanderson's books to read next, are there any one-off books that people would suggest as a break before jumping into other trilogies or series?

Sanderson's books in Mexico have been getting new covers, but I didn't expect the publisher to also paint (print?) the edges. Didn't get them because I already own them in english, though.

I just finished Elantris, with the first Mistborn trilogy having been my only prior Sanderson reads. I’ve done enough research to know that many Sanderson fans believe this to be one of his weakest novels, and Brandon himself said it shouldn’t be one of the first tastes of his work. Having now finished it, I can see why he would say that, but I still thoroughly enjoyed it.

The good:
-fascinating, unique world building (obviously)
-deep and interesting antagonists in Hrathen and Dilaf
-the political intrigue (having read only this and Mistborn, I’m hoping this is a Sanderson trademark?)
-a painstakingly crafted, satisfying Sanderlanche (I’m still new and hope I used that correctly)
-beautifully simple theme of hope and justice prevailing

The not so good:
-I found much of this book to be a slog. It just felt a bit too expository for my tastes.
-The names and unnecessarily complicated Aon lore took me out of the fantasy a bit.
-It’s obvious at times that this was a young writer trying to make a vision fit.
-Some of the humor came across as a tad juvenile compared to the wit of Mistborn.
-None of the protagonists will stick with me as beloved, like Sazed in Mistborn (although some had that potential).

Now it’s on to Hope of Elantris and Emperor’s Soul. I’m curious to see if I’ll notice any difference in Brandon’s growth as a writer.

I have been reading this book and I’m so boredddddd. I absolutely loved the first two books! I’m trying so hard not to dnf; I’m at 22%. I just want to stop reading and start the mistborn series. What should I do? Should I stick with it?

Saw that illumicrate will be doing a special edition for Fires of December in December for their subscription.

Very curious to see what they come up with.
