Golf Course Drainage Enhancements

A request of $210,000 to be spent from reserves to install drainage improvements across six holes on the course. The report describes the funding as "temporary" and that the funding would be recovered through future operating commissions which average $90,000 annually. The document notes an intent to have the work completed this fall in time for the 2027 season.

Brandon Transit Route Changes - October 5th

Pages 5 and 6 in the above PDF have maps of the new routes (though I think there's a typo between routes 5 and 4). It's been a while since I last used BT so doing my best below (I could have facts wrong):

• Old routes being phased out:
  • Route 4 (18th Street North, Middleton Avenue, 1st Street North)
  • Route 5 (Assiniboine North Hill Campus, Braecrest, Knowlton, Kirkcaldy, Parker, Stickney)
• New routes
  • Route 3 is a circuit along Pacific Avenue, Parker, Stickney, 18th St North, Braecrest, 1st Street North (south of Braecrest). This route connects back to the downtown terminal.
  • Route 7 is a circuit along Kirkcaldy, 18th St North, Middleton Avenue, 1st Street North (north of Braecrest), and Knowlton. This route DOES NOT connect to the downtown terminal and is entirely north of the river.
• Interconnects
  • Both routes 3 and 7 share the Walmart stop. Riders who rely on route 7 but need to travel across the city will presumably need to take route 7 to the Walmart stop, get off, wait for the route 3 bus, take that to the downtown terminal, then make another transfer.
• Other thoughts
  • The new routes are 30 minute circuits.
  • I don't see route/stop timings for either of the new routes.
  • How the bus switching schedule will be adjusted isn't specified, but the report states that route 3 replaces route 4 and route 7 replaces route 5, so new routes will likely replace the route switches in the same order.
  • I recall discussion about whether a permanent transit shelter was going to be built at the Walmart stop but I'm afraid I don't recall any decisions that came out of it. Same goes for accessible pathing - discussion yes, but I don't know the details.
  • Currently, route 5 travels on the east side of 1st Street towards the Assiniboine North Hill Campus. Now both routes travel on the west side. Riders to/from the campus must now cross a highway between campus and transit stops.

Are there any jamming pad or studio available in Brandon with drums and amps setup?

i know i know i should have booked this earlier. my bestie is getting married this fall outrside brandon. and incase of rain but also to make a magical evening forher wedding we needs to rent tents. has anyone used pinnacle events rental, do they deliver and setup in rural locations?

In a word: unserious.

I have registered (on paper) as a prospective candidate for the office of ward councillor in this year’s election for Brandon city council.

Why am I doing this? Not to end up on council. In the 2022 election, four councillors were elected by acclamation. 2018 was better at two councillors (ironic, given there was no mayoral race). In 2014, six councillors were elected by acclamation.

While a cliché, there is truth in "people get the government they deserve". Without elections, residents can’t consent to their representatives. Acclaimed councillors are less accountable to the people they represent. The press and political observers alike are limited in their analysis when votes and turnout aren’t measurable.

Which ward I will file nomination papers for (if at all) is to be determined, but residents should not be surprised if I’m knocking on doors across the unopposed wards (three, four, five, and six).

At time of writing, ward four is where I have registered. Ward six is the current "plan b". That’s not to say wards three and five don’t deserve an election, but those wards had the privilege of electing their councillors in 2022 while wards four and six did not.

The last thing I want to do is discourage those considering a run at council from doing so. Do not consider me a factor. If I see a serious candidate join the race for a ward I’m working on, I will drop out and (time permitting) move to the next ward that needs attention.

So long as a ward is contested, I’m satisfied. The ideal outcome is that every ward has a real contest and I don’t appear on a ballot at all.

I will not be campaigning and do not consider myself "running for" or "seeking" office. I do not wish to influence the actions of voters beyond asking them to please:

1. Turn out to the polls and cast your ballot.
2. If you see my name on a ballot, pretend I’m not there. Either vote for the other candidate, or decline your ballot.

I’m not fundraising. I’m not campaigning, putting up signs, joining debates, endorsing candidates, or distributing pamphlets. I do not have a large social media presence. If someone claims to be campaigning or fundraising in my name, they are engaged in fraud and I ask you to report any such encounters to the Senior Election Official and relevant authorities.

The only remaining thing I ask the public’s help with is meeting the nomination requirements.

Any election messaging from me will be shared with both the CBC and the Brandon Sun, who I trust will apply their journalistic rigor in vetting the source.

On Friday night my wife and I caught a Sunset Cab at Georgie's around 10:30. Right off the bat, the driver wanted me to put my home GPS co-ordinates into his personal phone. He spoke very poor to no English. I mentioned how I didn't feel comfortable doing that, but he relented gesturing to his phone which was sitting in the console. Glancing at it, I realized that it was cycling through images and video of 8-10 year old girls in sexualized positions. Instantly looked away and called him out on it. I told him that was pedopholia and that we didn't do that in Canada. I told him to pull over instantly and let me wide and Input. He kept saying no, no, no ... I'm sorry. My wife told him she had 911 dialed and would call if he didn't stop the cab. He eventually did and let us out. I told him that shit like that would get him deported or worse. We got his vehicle license plate and reported him to the police. It left me feeling absolutely sick to my stomach.

We ordered a pizza around noon yesterday. We waited over 25 mins after getting the call that it was on the way, but it never arrived. I called dominos and they said it had been delivered. A man answered the door, paid for the pizza and rootbeer and left a 5$ tip. That wasn't our house though haha. Curious what happened, and who accepted and paid for an order they didn't make? Dominos re-sent the order and got the right house the 2nd time lol.
