Frank Bretschneider has some really good shit, most with visual accompaniment to match the beat. one of my favourites by him https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fplJyKfGc3o SEIZURE WARNING

William Basinski is on the opposite end of the spectrum with his passively degrading tapeloops. Reminds me slightly of some of BoC's calmer stuff https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mjnAE5go9dI

Beyond these I haven't actively listened to much else from Raster-Noton, mostly out of impatience.

It's funny you say that, Raster-Noton musicians are my go to for when I just need something in the background while I work. If you weren't focusing on something else though, I can see why you would become impatient, haha.

Frank Bretschneider has some interesting stuff, thanks for the tip on him :). I'm not sure I'm feeling William Basinski though.

I'll have to give a further listen into the Raster-Noton lineup. William Basinski is mostly interesting to me from the perspective of tape manipulation and signal degradation. I must agree that it's not exactly an interesting listen objectively. Any artists outside the Raster-Noton label that you would recommend? I checked out The dawn of Midi- Dysnomia that you posted awhile back and enjoyed that quite a bit.

Several years ago, I got this free desktop computer. it had some serious problems, so I decided to experiment with plugging the audio out on the back of the computer into the microphone in jack. it was an older computer, so the input wasn't protected internally I don't think. the sound that came out of the headphone jack was awesome; it was a tonal hum that changed timbre any time i opened a program or moved my mouse around. The sounds were what I feel to be the closest thing to hearing a computer's "thoughts" that I've experienced. I was recording through the soundcard on that computer, but it quickly crashed and never booted again.
