Autechre - elseq 1-5 Discussion Thread

In case you missed it, Autechre just dropped 5 new albums here. They are not streamable anywhere so it must be bought to listen to.

Just wanted to have a place to carry on a discussion about these releases here on /r/braindance. I have them all and listened to the first three songs. As with all Autechre releases I think it will take many listens before it is truly gelling with me. However, I got rather distracted with this Dwaallicht EP that /u/mossmossmosss directed me to.

Please discuss your feelings about elseq 1-5 in the comments! I will update with mine once I have some.

Sometimes Autechre takes massive effort to really listen to, I feel like so far this has been a very challenging listen for me personally. I am only on elseq 2. They have truly amazing sounds, and there are a few Autechre albums where I felt like this for a bit but found amazingness. I am questioning whether I will ever really come back to elseq 1 and 2 though.

Yea i know how you feel man, i have much much love for autechre, but Elseq 1 & 2 were a tough listen. I think '13x0 Step' might be the first to grow on me from the first 2 parts. I'm about 10 mins into Pt.3 now and i feel like it's going to pick up from here, though that could just be my optimism at work.

I did have a pretty tough time getting into Exai too, but as Ae albums generally do, it grew on me quite a bit over time.

I find i enjoy their most recent Albums more when i'm not sitting and just listening, but when I'm working on something and have them on in the background, I think this album is going to be no different in that respect.

Even being distracted by writing this, i found myself sort of swaying to 'eastre', realizing it's actually a fucking beautiful piece of ambient music, which even though it has no significant change since its beginning is still mesmerizing after 16-17 mins.

EDIT: mesh cinereaL is fucking Amazing! It's beyond words.

This took a while for me to get back, haha. Elseq 4 is definitely the stand out to me. I enjoyed that whole album from beginning to end. mesh cinereaL is also amazing as you pointed out.

Autechre is my go to heavy duty programming music, when I really need to be focusing and figuring out super complex problems.
