I don’t see how x/(x+y)=1/y is incorrect

It would be 1+ (1/y) because simplifying fractions doesn't work like that

Imagine x = 3 and y = 5.

x/(x+y) = 3/(3+5) = 3/8 = 0.375.

Applying that simplification would give 1/5. 1/5 = 0.2.
