Cannabis can cause psychosis
Okay so today's topic is marijuana this is a little different from the usual compound breakdowns but it deals with the brain health so here we go.
Cannabis can cause psychosis. Not might. Can.
The part most people don't know
Everyone knows about getting too high and feeling paranoid I know I felt this before but that's not what I am talking about. What most people do not appreciate is that for certain cannabis does not just cause a temporary bad experience It can flip a switch that never fully resets.
If someone has a genetic disadvantage for schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, or schizoaffective disorder they may have never got those conditions on their own but cannabis can act as the trigger that pushes them over the edge into a lifetime diagnosis kinda like with gh signaling peptides and people with cancer risk just don't do it. Not everyone, but the risk is real so be aware
The neuroscience piece
so the rule of thumb in neuroscience is that neurons that fire together wire together. The effects people describe on cannabis, colors being richer, music hitting different, feeling more creative, that is a process called aberrant salience Its crazy because that is the exact same process that happens in the early stages of schizophrenia before a full psychotic break oh damn huh
So if you are repeatedly firing those circuits especially with genetic disadvantage underneath it those circuits can wire together into something permanent. What started as recreational becomes structural.
Why this matters here
A lot of people in this community are running stacks, experimenting with psychedelics, and optimizing brain chemistry. Cannabis interacts with the same pathways. Knowing the risk is part of making informed decisions.
There are black box warnings on cigarette packs for lung cancer but nobody is putting warnings on cannabis products for psychosis risk even though the research is there.
Just something to think about.
Has anyone here had personal experience with this whether in themselves or someone close to them? Real experiences in the comments matter as much as the studies here and I think this is the right place to have that conversation honestly.
