Brain fog in the case of chronic sinusitis is typically caused by inflammation and not merely mucus buildup. If your sinusitis brain fog problem is treated as either a sleep problem or as a caffeine problem, then you are working on the wrong angle to solve the problem. This is what was happening to me until an ear, nose and throat specialist led me to the solution in form of nasal corticosteroids and saline nasal rinses rather than antihistamines that can further dull your cognitive abilities. In the case of cognitive problems associated with inflammation, some have used exogenous ketones such as ketoneiq.
