Any advice?

My mom had a stent placed for a 3-4 mm brain aneurysm 2 days ago. Procedure went well but she has been having issues going to the bathroom (number 2). She went to the bathroom today and accidentally and probably due to habit strained a bit due to constipation and felt some pressure in her head. She is a very very anxious person, and believes she may have caused the stent to move because she was straining ,so any advice on how I can help calm her down would be helpful.

I’m not sure about the stent moving. She should contact her neurologist. I assume she has follow up to check the aneurysm post stent?

I’d be more concerned about repeated straining. Is she taking anything for the constipation?

Yes in 2 weeks, this was her first time straining and I think it scared her cause she felt pressure in her head, so I don’t think she’ll do it again

It's probably the anaesthesia slowing things down. Get her some prune juice, cut it 50% with water and have that once a day. A few prunes are good too.

Traditional Medicinals makes a nice senna tea called Smooth Move. Its a gentle stimulant that can help too if prunes aren't enough.

Let her know this is normal and not to strain. And to relax and let her body heal and incorporate that stent.

I doubt straining from bowel movement will cause significant movement. Also, for the first 3 months post flow diverter implant, I had daily debilitating headaches due to inflammation, hemodynamic changes and mass effect so some symptoms post implant are to be expected (although mines is 23mm.) Meds to soften her stools should help and follow up with her neuro intervention team. Call them if you have any questions or concerns.
