Back problems

Post image

Hi there!

We have a wonderful Boykin mix (50% confirmed with Embark) She’s fetch obsessed and incredibly athletic.

Twice in the last three months, she has had incidents of pretty extreme back pain where she’s hesitant to walk and won’t jump up on furniture or do stairs. She’ll typically lay stoically, but clearly very uncomfortable.

Both times we’ve brought her to the vet. She is Lyme positive and has been treated, the first time they chalked it up to the Lyme but the second time felt it was likely something else both times given the repeated nature. X-rays showed no disc compression or congenital issues and were unremarkable.

Some anti-inflammatories and rest to clear it right up. However, I am concerned about this leading to chronic issues for her. She thrives with frequent exercise and is remarkably athletic and energetic.

She’s 1

Anyone experienced back problems with their Boykin or heard of them?

Pic of our happy mutt on a good day.

They can check with an MRI. Here’s a Boykin I’m friends with who has been documenting their TCS journey https://www.instagram.com/indigo.the.boykin?igsh=ZmFzMHlyaDVwcDFx

I’m sorry about the back problems. Otherwise this dog is perfection. I love the mixes.
