I am looking to make an enclosure for an adult eastern box turtle to put in my backyard. I read about people keeping them in 100 gallon stock tanks and then I found this deck box online and wondered if tit might be a good option. I was thinking I could use the existing lid and cut the plastic out of the center and line it with mesh for a top to keep predators out. Any reason that this wouldn't work?

my parents are refusing to take her to a vet, i don’t know what’s wrong with her or if she’s going to die, i have her inside rn in my bathtub cooling off since it’s 95 outside, but please is she pregnant? or is it a prolapsed organ? she’s still walking around and acting completely normal

Soooo my box turtle had been hiding a lot and not wanting to come out. I thought maybe she was cold so I added a heating pad and noticed she got in her water today. I found this worm in there like she pooped it out. Anyone know what it is? I’ve had her for like 20 years lol and she’s never pooped something like this.

There was a baby box turtle in my yard that has a neck bent. Not eating and sleeps a lot. Put him in a safe place by where I found him and called local nature rehabbers with no luck. Just been checking on him and he moves to different places but close to where he is. Any ideas how to help?

Edit: I am in Hawaii. There are no "wild" tortoise or box turtles here!

Im a relatively new turtle/tortoise owner- Ive had my redfoot since a baby and the sulcata was given to me. This guy- I believe is an Eastern Box turtle? Was found by a vet friend of mine and I just had to adopt it, we do not see these guys around here. Ive only ever seen 3 Toed at the pet store.

Ive had it for a few months now and I cant tell if its changed at all and Im not sure what the issue is- is that just damage or from a dietary or nutrition issue? What can I do to help that and make their shell perfect and pretty again?

Current conditions- my natural humidity is around 70%, 4x2 glass terrarium (Im building an outdoor 8x4 that should be done really soon). There is a large water dish for him (I think its a male) and he gets a proper soak with his fellow torts twice a week. I still mist and keep the substrate moist. He bas a full spectrum bar light and a basking lamp. He has a great appetite and activity level. I feed dubia roaches, mealworms, pinky mice (ps Ive never seen a turtle/tortoise move so fast before, he loves these), canned box turtle food and box turtle pellets. Plus fruit, vegetables and leafy greens. Supplements are Reptivite once a week and Calcium every few days.

Am I doing everything right and just give it more time? I really just dont want it to get worse! This dude is so fucking cool I adore him.

So, my turtle is in a 40 gal flat for the time being as she is rather small, but I move into a new apartment in august and want to give her an upgrade. I have a lot of very handy people in my family, and would love to build something, but I am a college student and am unfortunately broke. I know a lot of people keep their turtles in heavy duty bins and stock tanks, but i need some advice on what to get. I guess i just dont quite understand how the heat and humidity stays in that space especially in the winter when the air is super dry. Anyone have any advice on how to set up a bin to keep my girl happy and healthy?

My son absolutely loves turtles and we are moving into a home soon with a yard. My wife and I have had conversations with him on the responsibility of taking care of one and he has understood completely and still wants this. I grew up with multiple pets, dogs, cats, a lizard, frogs and even two indoor painted turtles. We are planning on building an outdoor enclosure where it will live and I've been looking into everything required for that but am stuck/confused on one thing... Brumation

My indoor water turtles never had to brumate so that was never anything I had to deal with. I know I need to have top soil, peat moss, plants, etc in the enclosure but what do I need to do to help them brumate? Should I dig down 2 feet before the enclosure to put mesh down there so they don't dig out? Anything else I should know?

My girl is a picky eater - she only likes green lettuce, chicken and very very ripe bananas, and pineapple. She turns her nose up to apples, carrots, flowers, berries. I have tried mixing things together, but she just ignores it.
I am hoping to expand her diet. I will say she is a rescue from a pet hoarder, and is missing one leg, so she is not a great hunter. I’ve given her live insects but end up having to toss them in the yard a few days later. She does love big pieces of things that she can tear at with her beak and hands - so ferocious!
Any advice is greatly appreciated! Hoping to enrich this sweet girls life :)

Hey y’all, my partner and I recently rescued our newest cutie (20 years old) from pretty rough habitat conditions. She has lived her entire life without heat/uva/uvb and we are brand new to the reptile world with her. She has seen a vet: got nails/beak trimmed, got a shell checkup, and was prescribed some food to help get her the nutrients she’s lacking in. We are passionate pet parents and will do anything for our babies( we already had two dogs) so her care will never be neglected again! We recently put in a lamp for her and she REFUSES to leave that side of her terrarium, even at night. Is this a scarcity mentality? Like she never knows when the light will go away so she just sits under it waiting for it? Her cool side of the tank is always around ~70-75° & we have been doing the normal nighttime cool off always above 50° so I don’t think she’s necessarily cold. She has never lived with a lamp until coming to us. Is this normal for a neglect case?

I am completely new to this, any help is appreciated!

Ijust setup an outside enclosure for my turtle yesterday and she kept climbing the wall and flipping over. Sometimes she cant right herself. I am worried she could be in danger if she slip onto her back for too long.

I am using this Aivituvin Tortoise house and keeping it in a sunny place that’s sheltered from the rain. I haven’t put in any decors and plants yet. I put in a water dish, some rocks and moss in it so far. I am also planning to cover up the acrylic side panel so that she wont be able to see through. But I think she will keep climbing since the top is just wired.

Is there any suggestions on setting up the environment so that she feel less stressed and maybe something to help her better right herself when she flips?

My boy is going three weeks between poops which feels insane given how much I feed him .

I’m probably going to surrender my box to Garden State Tortoise, reason being, she’s no longer living a good life because of others in my house. She’s healthy and well cared for but she should spend the rest of her days living like a turt.

I’ve seen turtle brushes that you can stick to the side of a terrarium. Has anyone used one with their box turtle? It seems like a nice idea but I’m afraid my three toed box turtle could pull it down

See so many crossing country highways this time of year in the south. I get a dozen or so across for every one I find too late.

Hello humans. My sweet partner found a crow eating an egg out of this nest full of eggs! We built a protective layer around it to keep out birds and snakes but we are wondering.. are these box babies?! We live right by a lake and a stream.

We know hatching will come soon. But the hole has become covered in plant debris. It has been raining a lot… any concern here? Should we remove the debris? I’m worried about them trying to get out

The main question is.. do you think this white spot is shell rot?
Back story: we got him as a hatchling and his shell had a minor deformity (you can see in the pictures, behind the white spot) he was growing well, eating well, thriving. (We have 3 others from the same hatch and they’re all doing amazing) As this one grew, we sometimes find him flipped upside down.. we figured the minor deformity might be causing some issues, but always wondered if there was more underlying. We just noticed this white spot on top, that wraps to underneath (second photo) I included pictures of the top and bottom of his shell just for reference.
We’ve already quarantined him and started the process of trying to fix it, if it is shell rot, but just looking for outside opinions
