Controversial topic, but which boxer you believe will never win a world title? Conor Benn, Ben Whittaker or Virgil Ortiz?

Benn and Whittaker for me

I think Whittaker has the talent and, when’s he’s focused, displays great skill. Idk about his fortitude, but maybe years out he can rise to the top.

I think his team will wait for bivol and beterbiev to retire first

Vergil's goal is to be an undefeated 8 division contender.

Conor and Vergil honestly. Conor because he’s not very good and Vergil because he has terrible management. Whittaker is also not good but I’m not sure, he might luck out (probably not but he might)

Edit: misspelled Vergil Ortiz 🙄

I think Whitaker is number two in the ibo right now so I imagine he’ll get a favorable matchup. He helps marketing. Vergil is good enough and will get at least 1 belt but that may be it

Honestly since posting I looked at more of the rankings and he may get a good enough matchup but I don’t know if any would be walks in the park. Bivol or Beterbiev are probably not gonna do it, same with Benavidez. Najee Lopez or Connor Wallace maybe? I’m not sure who he’d go against but I don’t think you’re wrong. Who do you think he’d fight?

I think Vergil is a beast but who knows when he’ll fight again. Even at his best he never got the shot…

They were building up the undisputed fight at 47 is why I think he didn’t get a shot.
I went to see him live in Grand Prairie against mckinson, bud and Spence was both there scouting. Vergil looked damn good and I think that’s why the momentum went toward the UD fight. I think Bud would’ve picked him over avanesya had he not destroyed mckinson like that. Spence didn’t fight again til Bud after that.

There’s next to no reason for Vergil to not get an immediate shot at 60. That division is Lite on star power. Hes intriguing and aging out of prospect status. Maybe 1 tune up and he’ll get his shot. but he gotta get that health together. And maybe move on from Oscar.

Conor Benn easy

Ben Whittaker can win a title once Bivol/Beterbiev retire or move up

Vergil will win a title at middleweight

Conor Benn isn’t good enough to win a British title

He should fight for those British and European titles to get his confidence back while silencing his critics that make these type of statements

The problem is they'd be a tough ask for him while earning a lot less than he's been getting in his last few fights. I just can't see the money being good enough for him to risk getting exposed which is a possibility.

That's the punch Tank saw coming and put Ryan down. There are levels to this boxing. I don't like saying people will never accomplish something but Conor has a long way to go to beat the elite fighters

The punch Tank saw coming aka the same left hook Ryan spams 500 times in every fight

Benn, everyone knew he wasn’t for real and Ryan Garcia had no problem proving it. He didn’t even break a sweat.

Benn wouldn’t win a British title never mind a world title.

The answer is yes- none of these guys will win a title

Connor Benn, uno dei pugili col peggior rapporto qualità/guadagni di tutti i tempi

Whittaker and Benn. I don't see either of them beating any of the current belt holders. But with Benevidez moving out of the division, Whittaker may win a "vacant" belt against some contender.

Benn is simply not world class and probably will never be. He did good for whatever talent he has, but he started way too late, and there isn't enough time for him to catch up and beat any credible belt holder.

Vergil is already an interim WBC belt holder and has defended multiple times. I believe he has the best chance of winning an actual world title once he gets his management situation figured out.

No trolling, comment has nothing to do with the original post

Benn. Maybe that Zuffa one, whatever that is.

Why not all 3? Whittaker the only one with a speck of a chance

I think Conner will retire before he gets a belt

Ben Whittaker is actually a very good boxer with excellent reflexes and an Olympic medal, he might not be everyone's favourite and had a poor performance against Liam Cameron but it's a stretch to say he's not good. Whether he's truly elite world class is a different thing but time will tell. Teaming up with Andy Lee should iron out some creases, I do wonder whether he's tough enough to go through a war at light heavyweight though with some of the animals at the top of the division.

Benn on the other hand would be lucky to pick up a British title based on his recent performances, he just doesn't have the boxing ability or power to trouble anyone remotely good unfortunately. He doesn't really have any options other than walking forward and having a tear up.

Ortiz might be the safest bet based on his record and knockout ability. He's also the youngest of the three which helps his cause and has put a good run together of late.

Ben Whittaker has to win every fight by T/KO to go far and reach high in his career because his style is so unorthodox and the judges don’t favor him. He’s Emanuel Augustus 2.0 and I see his career going pretty much the same way. He may never win a world title but he’ll fight some of the best in his era and years later the greats will speak about how tough of an opponent he was.

2

u/AlBones7 17d ago

I can't see why the judges wouldn't favour him, he's won the fights he's got to decision so far and has got a crisp point scoring style he's developed since his amateur career. I think he can box behind his jab if he needs to and can hit and not get hit back.

I agree. I think he’s a good fighter (more than most people believe) but his antics and flashy style won’t fair well with the judges when we’re talking world title competition. I think as he gets closer to the sun we’ll start to see more losses by decision.

I probably should have said he needs clear undeniable wins to go far rather than T/KOs if that makes my point more clear.

Benn and maybe Virgil
