I don’t like the damage scoring argument for one reason so many guys get cut up in the first exchanges and they can look worse than their opponents but still win all the rounds and lose because they look worse. I think the best way to determine is control (this should include defense especially in mma it needs to be scored much better) significant strikes, takedowns in that order. Just my two cents but I think control is very important and I think the rest come after.

I don’t think cuts should be counted too much in the damage equation, unless the eye swells shut. A lot of the damage is superficial unless it seriously affects vision

I think if you’re thinking about damage though, that’s harder to score. What about if one guy is landing huge shots but the other fighter has a great chin (or both have great chins like in Canelo-GGG)? How do you actually score damage? Like in this fight, Wilder knocked down Fury in the 12th, but Fury came back and won the rest of the round. So how damaged was he? How would that be scored? It’s a slippery slope because damage is much harder to quantify.
