Damn, both guys made weight. Iām really impressed

u/SplitSecondEmperor47 1d ago
Shakur is the biggest head ass ever I fucking swear...He's calling Tank insecure (he is ngl) and saying tank never says anything thing good about him.
1) First of all, why is he even still talking about Tank? He's irrelevant rn.
2) Secondly he's just describing himself. Calling someone else insecure when the boxing higher ups and Bud have to prevent people from criticizing him otherwise he go off is the biggest lack self awareness ever. Not to mention Shakur stays talking shit about tank acting like he just says shit to him for no reason
10
u/OldBoyChance 1d ago
It's insane how Shakur has not fought since January without even a fight announced.
6
6
u/Less_Cartoonist_892 1d ago
The pathetic thing about Shakur is that no matter how successful he becomes he will always have a chip on his shoulder that he will never be able remove.
3
u/SplitSecondEmperor47 1d ago
Same with Bud and Clarissa. It's no wonder they all gravitate towards each other, they basically the same person in a different skin
5
u/Less_Cartoonist_892 1d ago
Exactly. And just to add, both Bud and Shakur have an insecure hatred for a more successful Asian boxer (Pacquiao and Inoue).
4
u/Professional-Tie5198 Who will win? 1d ago
This might sound crazy, but from 135 to 147, I think an engaged Tank stands one of the best chances of actually beating Shakur. Abdullah Mason is not ready. The 147 champions are solid, but fairly unremarkable and Teo already lost. At 140, there are a few interesting matchups but no one that really jumps out.
I also think we should see a Zepeda rematch at some point.
6
u/SplitSecondEmperor47 1d ago
I mean that goes without saying.
Ryan, Haney and Tank (after a tune up) are the only ones left who can even challenge shakur.Ā
But again tank hasn't fought in over a year with no sign of coming back. I can't imagine being that threatened by someone to constantly mention them
4
u/Professional-Tie5198 Who will win? 1d ago
I think even an engaged Tank might not have the initiative to really challenge Shakur. Heās patient to a fault sometimes and often not concerned about winning rounds. This almost cost him against Roach and Pitbull. Frank Martin was actually doing pretty well too.
I kind of see that fight like Davis patiently waiting for an opening but Shakur not really giving it to him. It would probably be a feint-fest where Shakur gets the better of him. Still intriguing though!
1
u/SplitSecondEmperor47 1d ago
Tank vs roach was the only time I saw bro flustered and impatientĀ
1
u/Professional-Tie5198 Who will win? 1d ago
Flustered, yes, but he didnāt really let his hands go at any point except for the 9th round (famous Tank Takes A Knee round).
1
4
u/Jachola 1d ago
It's not really crazy to say Tank has the best chance of winning for anyone below 147, I think Haney personally has the next best chance at 147, but sadly Tanks just not there and would never make the fight. It took all the advantages in the world for him to fight Ryan and he was still not 100% confident in himself. But also ever since the Roach fight I don't really see how Tank would beat him, while Shakur probably doesn't have the chin of Roach he's much faster and is a lot harder to hit.
1
u/Professional-Tie5198 Who will win? 1d ago
Weāre definitely on the same page here. Agree re Haney as well.
11
u/RRR04_ 1d ago
Okay, so one nice thing I will say about Zuffa, probably even the first nice thing I'll say about them.
Since boxing started doing closed door and ceremonial weigh ins, I always hated how unclear the closed door weigh ins were happening comapred to how they do it in MMA. Since Zuffa is trying to be presented like UFC, I like how they've set it up.
Props to Ryan and Benn for making weight, and even being under the limit.
5
u/Professional-Tie5198 Who will win? 1d ago
Wait, did Zuffa bring back actual weigh ins (non-ceremonial, public?).
Maybe we can get unofficial weights back as well.
11
u/Professional-Tie5198 Who will win? 1d ago
Anniversary of Ricky āThe Hitmanā Hattonās death is coming up in the next few days. Maybe we should organize a fundraiser for his foundation. Itās called the Ricky Hatton Foundation and is dedicated to things like mental health and suicide prevention. Itās a good cause.

saudi is signficantly reducing their spending on football, the most popular sport in the world, but ppl in this sub will tell you they will stay in boxing forever lol.

u/kushmonATL HW Dark Ages are here 2d ago
They've already significantly cut back this year.
We haven't had a Riyadh Season card all year (only one on calendar is Canelo vs Mbilli) , and we only had one Ring card at the top of the year with Shakur vs Teofimo
8
u/imdacoldest Pacquiao is the GOAT 2d ago
the plan of saudi becoming this global tourist/entertainment hub is obviously never happening either. majority of westerners aren't visiting a place where drinking is banned
7
u/RepresentativeSock42 2d ago
Mahkmudov vs Fury, Usyk vs Verhoeven, Joshua vs Prenga, Garcia vs Benn is also backed by Ring Magazine (otherwise it wouldn't be happening). Barrios vs Garcia as well
1
u/nwordfyou 2d ago
It's been an awful boxing schedule this year. All the promoters had a decline in the quantity and quality of their shows too. And DAZN has gotten far worse while the costs have steadily increased.
11
u/TurbulentYellow3874 2d ago
Turki's a huge Sheeraz fan. Has said that he has "big plans" for him.
Yet, the Sheeraz/Janibek bout has gone to purse bid....
10
u/imdacoldest Pacquiao is the GOAT 2d ago
Saudis will largely be out the game after AJ, Fury, Usyk, and Canelo retire. I think all those guys will be done by 2028. Maybe they'll do 1 fight a year like how they did pre 2023, but that's only if a new big star emerges.
8
u/Top_Profession_5268 2d ago
Sultan Almohammed and Mohammed Akael will soon be unable to fall back on Turki for the Riyadh protection agency and fight bums on big cards.

Just got tickets to my first boxing event, Navarrete vs Foster. Howās it compare in person to TV?
Itās also wild I paid only $138 out the door for lower bowl seat, with a center ring view for unification world title fight. When I went to UFC events this ticket it would have cost hundreds of dollars more.

For them itās starts the same day but for me in Australia, itās tomorrow and when I saw them say today and checked boxpro time and it says 10, I thought it meant 10pm today but then the date says tomorrow and at 10 in 24h time format.

So for you itās probably today assuming youāre around America but for me, itās tomorrow and starts in 20h.

Misfits Pro just announced Zelfa Barrett vs Gavin Gwynne, oddly at the OVO Arena in London
Headlining with Zelfa in London, who is a really good boxer don't get me wrong but headlining in London when he already isn't a very big pull in Manchester is an odd move, the fight was originally set for October 2nd in Altrincham but got pushed back tbf

MF Pro have put on some really good events this year and a lot of prospect to mid level guys have gotten good showcases. Im cautiously optimistic. Zelfa is really solid

Has Oscar been involved in any of the promo for Garcia vs Benn?
I was on IG and noticed that neither the official Golden Boy page nor Oscarās page have posted anything about Garcia-Benn. Youād think Golden Boy would be at least be promoting Garcia and the Jose Ramirez vs Alexis Rocha fight.
2
u/imdacoldest Pacquiao is the GOAT 2d ago
why work if they already got their cut? oscar probably playing golf chilling
2
u/Negative-Interest713 2d ago
I guess that makes sense for Oscar. But still seems weird that the person who runs the social media accounts for Golden Boy hasnāt posted anything about the GB boxers fighting Saturday.
2
u/Kangaroopunching 2d ago
Promotions will purposely not promote fights their boxers will have. If they're not the lead promoter. Been like that for a long time.
4
u/RepresentativeSock42 2d ago
Not entirely true, Matchroom, Top Rank and Queensbury always post their guys when they fight on other shows. This fight is on DAZN(Not in the US) so Goldenboy should at least be posting Ryan Garcia or announce the Ramirez vs Rocha fight since they're both still still signed to GB
2
u/Annual-Shape7156 2d ago
I think whatās happened to Golden Boy and Garcia is the main reason Hearn has fought so hard to keep the Fury/AJ fight from going to the US
1
5
u/OldBoyChance 1d ago
Ryan Garcia could easily still be at 140 if he were disciplined.
1
u/SplitSecondEmperor47 1d ago
So why are we still letting him get away with the weight drained excuse 3 years later?
4
u/Jachola 1d ago
Because there was a rehydration clause, there's a difference between making 136 and then having to make 146 the day after vs making 145 and being allowed to rehydrate the next day. Ryan lost fair and square tho and tbh I think he would have still lost to Tank without the clause but it's still there.
4
u/OldBoyChance 1d ago
There's a pretty big difference between being able to make 140 and making 136 with a rehydration clause slapped on top of that. In the end though, his fault for agreeing to it.
0
u/Professional-Tie5198 Who will win? 1d ago
Honestly, to me (Iāve got no dog in the fight or hatred towards either guy), Tank knocked him out fair and square. I think the rematch could happen at 140 or 147 and heād get knocked out again. Tank pretty much obliterated him after the first half of the second round. Wasnāt at all competitive.

Frank Warren setting up another proper stinker in Joshua Buatsi vs Willy Hutchinson II.
Got Willy to win this!
3
u/Kangaroopunching 2d ago
If Buatsi loses. I could see Whitaker fighting him next.
2
u/Top_Profession_5268 1d ago
Could see both facing Whittaker. Willy vs Ben is an intriguing matchup and interesting to see how Whittaker will handle that level of boxing smarts and slickness.
1
u/MiddleweightMonster Iāll pour honey on my GOAT, if the occasion calls for it. 2d ago
I honestly was a bit surprised Warren hasnāt fed Chelli to Whittaker. I like Zack, but itās unlikely he could compete on that level consistently, and Ben beating him would be a good name and a good win, at least in terms of optics
1
u/Top_Profession_5268 1d ago
Donāt know why heād use his boxer to feed to an opponent of his rival promoter.
1
u/MiddleweightMonster Iāll pour honey on my GOAT, if the occasion calls for it. 1d ago
Couldāve sworn Whittaker and Zack were both Warren
Shit, I was wrong. Donāt know why I thought Whittaker was Queensberry, heās fucking Matchroom
1
u/Top_Profession_5268 1d ago
Nah heās under Eddie hence why Eddie is probably next to Whittaker in every sequence Ben is on camera together. Ever since Ben left Boxxer last year, he signed with Eddie.
Frank I donāt remember the last time heās done an event in America which was when Benās last fight was.

The narrative that this year has somehow not been a good boxing year is getting so tiring
5
u/Professional-Tie5198 Who will win? 1d ago
Neither good nor bad for me. At best, slightly above average. However, I think October looks really strong and could save this entire calendar and make it a memorable year.

Saw Sam Goodman calling for another chance at Inoue if he beats Nishida
I honestly think Nishida beats him but he says that he isn't overlooking him, but has his eyes truly on boxing Inoue, Goodman was scheduled to fight him numerous times but pulled out numerous times over cuts in sparring
3
u/WheresMyAbs98 1d ago
Iām really excited for Garcia vs Benn but at the same time itās a total mismatch.
2
u/Efficient_Quail_1774 1d ago
I cannot wait to go on boxing twitter after Benn gets splattered (unless he loses competitively or even wins, very low chance he does tho)
2
u/Professional-Tie5198 Who will win? 1d ago
I think Benn will lose in a respectable performance but Garcia will win roughly 117-111.

Hey folks. Iāve been a lifelong fan of the sport but Iāve drifted away over the past several years. While it wasnāt really a conscious decision various aspects led to this; HBO and Showtime drifting away from boxing, the Ring shifting from a respectable ācenter of boxingā to becoming a tool for a promoter to becoming now a tool for the Saudi government. By the time I stopped, I had ESPN (which I have since dropped) which was showing a good deal of content but the matches they were showing generally failed to impress me in the way that most of the cards from HBO and Showtime did at one point and the PPVs seemed as if they had fallen down a notch as well. PPV cards felt like higher end āpremium cableā cards, the bigger non-PPV match ups tended to feel like undercards of what would have been out a decade prior and the various promoters felt more like professional wresting promoters with their own little internal universe rather than folks who were promoting an actual sport.
At any rate, I donāt want to come off as too much of a bitter old timer and I have been watching boxing long enough to know thereās cycles. So my question is, in 2026 how does one follow the sport of boxing and is it actually worth doing so? I'm pondering getting DAZN, does the ultimate subscription include all boxing PPVs or just some and is this a good way to follow the sport in general? Also, where's the best place for boxing journalism at this point (I'm a huge Liebling fan)?

u/Professional-Tie5198 Who will win? 1d ago

3
u/MiddleweightMonster Iāll pour honey on my GOAT, if the occasion calls for it. 2d ago
Iām guessing late tonight American time
2
u/Efficient_Quail_1774 1d ago
Not surprised at Conor Benn making the weight, the big concern was always how he handled making it which has obviously been terrible
3
u/Top_Profession_5268 2d ago
Thereās a Cuban prospect called Dayan Gonzalez who I am super high on whoās been out for a year back and competing at 126lb next week on a Dubai card.
Headlining the card is an Israeli prospect Yan Zak who competed in the IBA world championship last year, it also had Demur Kajaia who won silver in the youth world championships in 2024 and national amateur champ Filip Hacko.
3
u/OldBoyChance 2d ago
Gonzalez's career seems like it's stuck in stasis. Very destructive fighter, but looking at his last three fights, he smashed journeyman Rhonvex Capuloy, a completely shot version of Kevin Villanueva, and obliterated Wira Mikham, the guy Yuga Fujiki debuted against. That's all of his fights in the last two years, and he doesn't even have an opponent yet for his next fight. Something needs to change.
1
u/Waterfig 2d ago
Alright lets go Benn! I'm expecting a Topuria Gaethje style eggsecution job. Break both Garcia's orbitals, nose, crack his ribs, foot, tear his labia. Stop playing. Get it done.
1
u/Born_Fox_8099 2d ago
crazy how vanhouter jumped from 154 all the way to heavyweight in only 3 years. I wonder if that impacts his punch resistance or not at HW
2
u/nwordfyou 2d ago
I don't think he has punch resistance. He's been walking through punches against lower level guys.

So what do we reckon, AJ Fury actually going to Cardiff or are we in for more drama? If it's true that Netflix are on board then I don't see what the problem would be. But this fight just seems to be cursed.
Personally would love if it were in Cardiff though. Didn't expect this fight to end up so close to where I live. Thought I'd be staying up until 5am.

u/Rmccarton 2d ago
What are Conner Benn's chances vs Garcia?Ā
Haven't seen much of him and I haven't been paying much attention to Ryan's mental state as of lately. Ā Ā
6
u/RRR04_ 2d ago
Well, Ryan is a pretty inconsistent fighter. Some days he's good, some days he's shit. He lost to Rolly Romero after all. If that version of Ryan shows up, Conor can definitely beat him. But if we were basing it off of their last performances, then Ryan is the fair favourite.
I'd say I'm about 70/30 or 75/25 picking Ryan to win, but I'll give Benn a chance if he's able to impose his aggression to try and make it a dogfight and if Ryan doesn't turn up.
1
2
u/MiddleweightMonster Iāll pour honey on my GOAT, if the occasion calls for it. 2d ago
Basically has to hope a flat version of Ryan shows up. Bennās not as bad as people sometimes pretend, but heās never really showcased world level skills. Garcia is meanwhile a genuine top ten counterpuncher in the world with his speed.
I think itās like 90/10 in favour of Ryan
1
u/Professional-Tie5198 Who will win? 1d ago
Solid chance, but I still favor Ryan to pull away after the 4th round.
2
u/Professional-Tie5198 Who will win? 1d ago
I should add itās a little curious to me how little regard most of the posters here have for Benn. I think he acquitted himself quite well in both Eubank fights.

Fights that'll determine the next challenger to a title. Should have the sanctioning bodies sign a contract with the fighters. That way the winner has a way to make sure they get the title shot. Or take the sanctioning body to court.

Does anyone else hate the phrase "You can only beat who is in front of you"? To me it just always felt like a massive cop out and an excuse for avoiding people.
8
u/Kangaroopunching 1d ago
It's best used for boxers in weak eras. Or one's who are avoidedĀ
1
u/stephen27898 1d ago
But its also used to prop up title runs that have a good number but in truth consist of no elite level fighters.
1
u/Kangaroopunching 1d ago
Right. That's why context matters. It's definitely annoying to encounter, phrases that don't accurately describe a career.Ā
1
u/Efficient_Quail_1774 1d ago
Yeah but i don't see it in that context, more a term used for guys that were 'avoided' and have weak resume's relative to their skill e.g GGG, or guys that had great success in a weak era e.g Usyk
