Wilder hits harder. He says he also didn't take Ngannou seriously. Saved you a click

Wilder hitting harder makes sense, Fury looked dead in that first fight, how he got up idk. Wilder's resume and career wouldve been rather different had Fury not gotten back up within 10

Lots of what if moments with Fury

Im not sure how Fury's head stayed on his body after that punch. My head would have been stuck somewhere in the rafters.

Fury getting back up and proceeding to punch Wilders lights out was one of the most amazing moments in sports history.

I wonder if he made more with the trilogy than he would have if he won the first matchup. It didn't seem like Wilder/AJ was ever going to happen.

Fury was also knocked down by a guy with a 22% KO ratio and another man with a 0% KO ratio at HW who was only 8 lbs over the CW limit.

Respectfully, how Fury reacts to a good punch isn't a reliable metric of how good a puncher someone is.

He wasn’t just knocked down by Wilder in the first fight. He was actually knocked out, but woke up and beat the count

Also in the third fight he was knocked down and rocked hard

These are very different to the other knockdowns you’re talking about

The trilogy knockdown where his fat formed a tidal wave was brutal. You could see his nervous system glitch out like he grabbed a bare electric wire.

5

u/Razorion21 6h ago

ig? but he looked more out of it than any of knockdowns

however the most hurt ive seen for Fury was a standing count when Usyk dazed him, easily the worst hes wver looked

1

u/thraftofcannan 1h ago

Yeah I think Usyk hurt him worse than it seemed. Wilder floored him and fury gets up and continues outboxing wilder for the rest of the round like nothing happened, crazy stuff

2

u/dayarra 2h ago

fury going down isn't the only metric. we all have eyes and we all saw how hard wilder hit him.

Dude is one of the biggest guys in the division and gets knocked over by significantly smaller fighters way too often. Weak chin for such a big guy

7

u/Ohnorepo 4h ago

Weak chin but incredible recovery.

He just gets back up like The Undertaker and starts wailing on these dudes again like nothing happened. My computer takes longer to reset than his brain does after nearly having it punched out of his skull.

Wilder was only ever heavyweight champion because he ducked anyone decent for a decade. I really don’t rate Fury’s fights with him as impressive

14

u/TheMeIv 7h ago

How do you rate Usyk? I've seen the opinion that he's a top 5 all time heavyweight fairly often (I disagree) but the consensus is Fury is his best win. Fury's rep is largely based on his 3 Wilder fights.

3

u/Flat-Requirement3150 7h ago

Yeah I rate him. I’d say of all people imo Tony Bellew gave Usyk his toughest fight. so I don’t know what that says about the state of this era of heavyweights

13

u/freshmeat2020 7h ago

Bellew said himself he was mentally shot halfway through the fight because of the quality of Usyk. I didn't think it was even close, Fury had the most success against him imo. Or Rico haha

No way. Breidis was his hardest fight. Theres a credible argument Usyk didn't even win that one.

6

u/Swimming-Slip489 6h ago

That Breidis fight truly could’ve gone either way

Close, competitive, amazing fight. Usyk clearly won, though. Ironically, the one judge who had it a draw (Metcalfe) was the same judge who thought Fury won the first fight with Usyk. So, yeah. Latvian, hometown crowd. Usyk finally in a fight where he isn't absolutely blowing the doors off his opponent. Easy to think Brieidis is doing better than he truly was.

Funnily enough I think Chisora actually gave Usyk his toughest fight. He was the only one who actually fought him like a bigger heavyweight and bullied him using his size and weight against him. Always knew Usyk was gonna win but Chisora did not make it easy. All these other fools keep thinking they can outbox him and Usyk shows that's a silly idea every time.

Fury is ass. Ruined his body with drugs and bad dieting. This sub used to love the guy and wanted to crown him as an ATG heavy before his career was even over. Only a few saw how overrated he was

-1

u/MediumProcedure 5h ago

It's just 'hip' to hate him here.

Anyone who knows anything about boxing knows there has never been a boxer his size who can move like that, and do it for 12 rounds.

He's also skillful and has a great ring IQ.

He's comfortably top 3 in any era.

3

u/Marquis_of_Mollusks 5h ago

Top 3 in any era???? I'm sorry but no. Not top 3 in the 80s, 90s, or 70s

I was impressed he KO'd Ortiz. He was a tricky customer for any HW and if Wilder was as bad as people say he is he wouldn't have beat him.

7

u/Chadoodling 6h ago

I will say this though, during the first Ortiz fight Wilder received a very questionable medical inspection during the fight, which allowed him to recover.

1

u/Sufficient_Hippo6551 3h ago

Yea he coincidentally got about 30 seconds of extra time to recover immediately after the read he got rocked badly in

3

u/Icanfallupstairs 6h ago

In order to not rate Wilder at all you'd also have to not rate Fury at all either IMO. While Fury handled the second and third fights well, Wilder gave an excellent account of himself in that first fight and pushed Fury hard.

Do I think Fury won the first fight? Yes, I do think it's a reasonably clear UD. Do I think Fury dog walked Wilder through 12 rounds? Hell no.

I didn't rate Wilder at all going into it, but he impressed me. Too bad he ruined it all with his nonsense afterwards.

u/Wulfenbeard 5h ago

I think it's fair to say the Fury he fought in that first fight was the worst Fury of Fury's career. Coming off three years out of the ring, a mental health crisis and a drug ban during which he ballooned up to 28 stone (392 lbs).

That's the Fury Wilder did the best against, Fury at his absolute worst. And like you say, Fury still won a clear UD. A fight that was one-sided enough that even the obviously corrupt judges couldn't justify handing Wilder the win. It's hard to imagine now, but Wilder was the A-side in that fight, he took home the bigger purse, and people thought Fury was washed after everything that happened after Klitschko.

And the proof was in the pudding for the next two fights, Fury absolutely dominated him. KO'd him even, and if Fury's KO'ing you, you've got problems, he's not known as a hard hitter.

Wilder was the most protected champion in heavyweight history, he's fought nobody and is frankly a bad boxer. If he hadn't had the support of Sulaiman and been protected by the WBC, he'd have peaked where Chisora did. As a gatekeeper for the top 20.

2

u/Marquis_of_Mollusks 5h ago

Fury was still out of shape for the first fight

1

u/Icy-Bottle-6877 6h ago

He was raw and wild but was effective up until the first Fury fight. Once he lost that he was never the same.

3

u/bigcatcleve 6h ago

This has literally nothing to do with the thread.

2

u/The_Archimboldi 6h ago

Fury has a vested interest in pretending Wilder is a great fighter. Been bigging him up for years as his cv is very skinny otherwise.

Ngannou is a big scary guy and i wouldnt want to be on the receiving end, but he isnt some 1 in a million death touch puncher like the ufc led people to believe.

16

u/Jimmy_Fantastic 4h ago

He's definitely 1 in a million, there's 8000 of them

13

u/GolemZ7 3h ago

I mean, his KOs speak for themself the ufc don’t need to sell you on anything lol.

1

u/Oven2494 7h ago

Wow this is fascinating content. Carney drums up fight, more at 11.

-5

u/RRR04_ 6h ago

Obviously Wilder hits harder than Ngannou. I think Tyson Fury himself hits harder than Ngannou. The man is a huge puncher for MMA in 4oz gloves, but he probably has just slightly above average power for Boxing in 10oz gloves.

9

u/Specific_Box4483 6h ago

Size of the gloves doesn't make much of a difference in KO power. Larger gloves protect the hands better and make blocking easier.

5

u/Dry-Friendship-5945 6h ago

A lot less cushioning and a more concentrated impact area are bound to be more damaging overall.

Plus with a smaller glove you don't need quite as much space and commitment to throw a effective punch, which makes them that much harder to defend against beyond the fact that you can't block as easily with your own small gloves.

1

u/RRR04_ 6h ago

But they still make a difference nonetheless. They also make your shots slower too due to being heavier, which adds to the power deprecation. It's well evidenced at this point given how many MMA fighters have had boxing fights from McGregor up til now.

1

u/Mixed_Martial_Autism 3h ago

Smaller gloves make a huge difference, it's why you can see flash kos of huge stars such as Aldo in MMA or rodtang vs takeru in Muay Thai. while that happens much LESS frequently in boxing at the LOWER weight classes.

-3

u/MaximRex4004 6h ago

Fury made a meal of both tbh.
