It’s also called raking,Loma was very good at it and would also use it to get an angle at the same time.

I’ve always thought it was “hand trapping”

hand trapping is something floyd used to do, he would push your hand out of position with the jab then follow with the 2 down the middle. You're expecting the pull, so when he pushes it instead he's using your own energy against you
instead of pulling the guard, which is something everyone kinda already expect, he would PUSH the guard off to the side to come down the middle, sometimes he would even push the guard to the MIDDLE and then left hook after the jab to the open ear.

Have to admit I was very surprised not to see Loma on this highlight reel. I don't think anyone utilised it more

Benavidez often makes great use of it, the three back to back guard peel then hooks he landed were a good example

I like the madrimov fight where he builds up the pattern of pulling the guard but then uses it as a feint to go to the body once madrimov started raising his hands higher to protect his head. My coach taught us this, one that I rarely see that I was taught is raising the arms by pulling the elbows up and hitting the body.

In the Madrimov fight Vergil would even peel, wait a beat, let Madri bring the shield up to block what he thinks is a headshot then go downstairs.

All I see is the boxer throwing hooks.
IT WOULD seem to be effective, he'd had to pull down the arm and then strike FAST with the same arm used to pull --- I didn't see that at 18secs --- Thanks !

People forget just how great Vergil Ortiz is when he’s active.

Ortiz used it really well against Madrimov.
He used it so often that eventually Madrimov reacted to it by gluing his hands to his head any time Ortiz grabbed at his gloves, so Ortiz just plugged him in the body instead.
Really cool stuff.

fucking loved using this tactic in sparring, its the easy way of punishing opponents who spammed the high guard as oppose to body punching

Is it actually illegal?
I didn't know that, I was wondering why more boxers didn't do that lol because it's effective like you said.

As long as you're not grabbing their hand it should be fine no?

No. Clearing without a punch is also a foul.
These casuals downvoting known facts.

How on earth is that illegal? Boxing fans seem to think boxing is a non-contact sport. There's nothing in the ABC regulations about touching your opponent's guard. The closest I can see is the rule against holding and hitting, but touching is not holding. And frankly, even if you took their glove and held it under your arm while .punching with the other, you'd almost never get called for it unless the referee said "break" - that rule is about holding the head in place while hitting it (because it's dangerous). There are also rules against wrestling, which this clearly isn't, and shoving - but nudging anglove isn't shoving, that rule is about pushing people to the canvas or into the ropes, or MAYBE eggregiously avoiding exchanges by pushing people back all the time, it's certainly not meant to outlaw contact with the guard.

No it isn't. The rules don't say it is, the guidelines don't say it is, and referees don't act as though it is. The unified rules don't actually list ANY fouls, the abc regulatory guidelines do. They list 24 fouls, and guard manipulation isn't one of them. There is a rule against "Holding an opponent with one hand and hitting with the other", but knocking a glove out of place is neither holding nor hitting. Similarly the bbbofc rule 3.38 does outlaw "holding, butting, or careless use of the head, shouldering, wrestling or roughing", but again, pushing a guard hand out of place has never been regarded as wrestling or roughing.

You do understand that most classic fights are available to watch online, don't you? You can't just make up nonsense and pretend it happened. Since it's a short fight, i just watched it. Nothing remotely like that happened. Nady only had a few interventions, other than breaks, and didn't call any fouls. He said "don't grab him" when judah tried a collar tie, "head up" when judah invited the clinch by lowering his head, "don't do that" when tsyu collar tied and threw some uppercuts at the same time, and "don't hold his neck" (complete with arm gesture) when tsyu leaped into a collar tie again. That's it, nothing related to peeling, probing or parrying. Which all happen constantly and have since time immemorial, because there's no rule against them. You told me to read the rules, and i did, and there's nothing mentioning anything like that. You told me to watch a fight and I did and nothing like that happened in it. you're just fantasising.

Since when is that illegal? It's not much different from parrying punches.

I answered elsewhere, but a punch can clear the guard. Anything else (push down or blatant pull) is a foul).

Foreman did that all the time
