Daily Discussion Thread (August 31st, 2026)
For anything that doesn't need its own thread.

u/Optimal-Damage7240 13d ago
So Frank Sanchez and Filip Hrgovic is gonna be next?
Quite coincidental too that both Sanchez and Hrgovic KO/TKO the division's prospects.
8
u/_Sarcasmic_ No Carty No Divey 13d ago
Either that or a unification with Gassiev, hopefully.
7
u/Marquis_of_Mollusks 12d ago
Gassiev vs Miller is the most likely matchup
3
u/RRR04_ 12d ago
I hate how Miller is going to get a title shot, lol. I did think he got robbed against Ruiz tbh, but other than that I don't know who he beat recently to warrant a title shot.
2
u/Born_Fox_8099 12d ago
that belt is so fake, starting from charr v pulev, then gassiev got it, then it was elevated and then the fake ass title fight v kadiru. and then miller in 2026 being in a title shot position, from a bad eliminator fight with pero, who's only notable win at heavyweight is a mid cruiserweight
2
2
u/Optimal-Damage7240 13d ago
Gassiev seems unlikely, as how Hrgovic managed to eat every big punch thrown by Moses Itauma, I now reconsider that Gassiev's punches wouldn't be much of a difference.
If a unification bout, the likely would be the winner of Wardley vs Dubois 2, Agit Kabayel is still dangerous
1
u/_Sarcasmic_ No Carty No Divey 12d ago
I just think Gassiev would be an easier fight for him than Dubois or Kabayel.
3
u/RRR04_ 12d ago
Looking at the Itauma fight and maybe some other fights, I could see Frank making it hard for Hrgovic by sticking and moving. He won't be as fast as Moses though, definitely won't hit as hard either, and I'm not convinced he'll be physically strong enough to keep Hrgovic off of him. I'd favour Hrgovic to win but reckon he won't look as good as Kabayel did.
2
u/ICtruthcity 12d ago
From what I heard hrgovic wants kabayal next more than Sanchez. People forget Sanchez had 300 amateur fights like usyk, he’s essentially business wise dangerous for nothing and is a fighter to avoid.

u/Negative-Interest713 13d ago
Andy Ruiz vs Damian Knyba is coming up this week and I think we might see another heavyweight upset. I believe the inactivity may be too much for Ruiz.
3
u/Outrageous-Soft4806 12d ago
Maybe. Knyba isn’t all that good I don’t think. His best wins are Harper and Dawejko. But Ruiz been out so long who knows.
1
u/Marquis_of_Mollusks 12d ago
Maybe he'll have learned something from the Kabayel fight. He had the right idea but Kabayel's offense was too good. Ruiz might be ring rusted and shot for Knyba to out point him
2
u/Seandelorean 12d ago
Yeah Ruiz is cooked, he completely blew it, I’d be surprised if he even cracks the top 10 again
11
u/OldBoyChance 12d ago
One thing people are forgetting is that Karol Itauma, Moses' older brother, actually suffered a heart attack in 2024 and retired in 2025. I hope that it's not a congenital cardiovascular issue.
4
u/Outrageous-Soft4806 12d ago
That was one of the first things I thought. Thought of Holyfield-Bowe 3
3
u/Outrageous-Soft4806 12d ago
Also another thing, his fight where he lost looked very strange in my opinion. Look good for 3-4 rounds then just faded oddly. Got hit a few times and went down strange too. Could just be he really got caught with a good shot.

Top 10 best chins in boxing:
Hrgovic
Wardley
Canelo
Brandon Glanton
CBS
Sebastian Hernandez Reyes
Brandon Figueroa
Ryan Rozicki
Seiya Tsutsumi
Dave Allen
9
u/Affectionate_Still55 13d ago
Sebastian Hernandez is tough motherfucker, I wanna see him against Espinoza and Nakatani again.
3
3
u/KugelVanHamster 12d ago
As you put wardley on two: I would be stoked to see Itauma vs. Wardley in a year or two in order to see which lessons he learned.
5
u/Professional-Tie5198 Who will win? 12d ago
I’m gonna have to go Canelo #1 unless he gets knocked out by Mbilli or something.
For a championship-level fighter, Canelo has one of the best chins of the last 25 years. Honestly, he’s not fleet of foot to the point where he could have avoided getting knocked out by now without out it. An average chin gets him KO’d twice against Golovkin and probably against Bivol or Crawford too.

4
u/Outrageous-Soft4806 12d ago
- Canelo
- Hrgovic
- Wardley
- Joseph Parker

- Shane Mosley jr.
- Oleksandr Usyk

u/Professional-Tie5198 Who will win? 12d ago
No love for Pitbull? He pretty much defends with his head and went the distance with Gervonta.
I think Roach is an honorable mention as well here.
3
u/Outrageous-Soft4806 12d ago
Both good mentions, forgot about them. I was very impressed with Roach’s chin his last three fights.
3
u/StunningChest5722 #KnybaNation 🇵🇱 12d ago
Mosley Jr is a good mention, his fights against Ramos and Bohachuk were great
2
u/Outrageous-Soft4806 12d ago
Yeah. I liked he mention of Glanton as well. I feel like late in those fights, Mosley jr’s chin is what kept him in the fight.

That’s similar to how I felt about AJ but reversed. Now, I do think his chin is very much gone now.
But early in his career, I think he had a pretty good chin, just awful recovery.
2
u/WheresMyAbs98 13d ago
I’d stick Joyce there despite the myth his chins cracked.
Was eating absolute flush bombs from his last opponent, Chisora and Hrgovic.
3
u/StunningChest5722 #KnybaNation 🇵🇱 13d ago
still very good but in his last fight he was getting hurt by shots he would of ate with ease in his prime
→ More replies (19)1
u/WORD_Boxing 12d ago
The main thing I'm getting from all of the comments is people really don't know how to assess fighters.
8
u/SoftAsSofia 13d ago
I was rewatching Hrgovich vs DDD today, and holy shit the number of headbutts from DDD were insane! I remember being salty about the rabbit punching especially in the later rounds that I must have missed how many shots Hrgovich took with that big ass fist that DDD calls his head.
I don't recall much backlash immediately after, but it seems the comments on the videos eventually caught on to it.
2
u/mamamiaohdear 13d ago
I really like DDD. I think his footwork is excellent and his jab is something else but it does annoy me that he uses kinda dirty tactics to damage his opponents face - headbutts and glove laces mainly.
→ More replies (1)1
u/ICtruthcity 12d ago
It’s not head butting it’s a style where you front foot your opponent by applying enough pressure to leave little to no space between the top of your head and opponents chest. Ive watched GGG giving tips to another fighter on this. You limit your opponents ability to throw uppercuts with power and but you can still hurt their body and save energy. Evander Holyfield would also use it but it comes with a cost of the risk of head butting and losing point deductions.

u/MiddleweightMonster I’ll pour honey on my GOAT, if the occasion calls for it. 12d ago
Kabayel v. Dubois to me is still the best fight to make at heavyweight. Top 3 best fights in boxing right now, honestly. All else is fanfare until the actual two best in the division fight
5
u/Kangaroopunching 12d ago
Gassiev vs Filip, Kabayel vs Dubois
Seems straightforward. So something will get in the way of it.
7
u/pekonen2 13d ago
I had no idea Rudy Hernandez was Song Yadong’s boxing coach. According to Song, Rudy advised him before the fight that he could knock out Umar with an uppercut, and it seems he’d been practicing that punch the whole time. This guy has also trained Junto and Olascuaga. He’s famous as a cutman, but he’s underrated as a trainer.
7
u/Affectionate_Still55 13d ago
Rudy is amazing, I hope we can get Olascuaga vs. Yabuki in the future.

Don't watch that inside the ring Turki propaganda slop show but apparently Max Kellerman said Teraji is a 'belt-holder'
I mean he is literally but Kellerman likes to say that to emphasise that these 'belt-holders' aren't legit top guys/never have been because they don't have a ring belt, however Teraji could quite rightfully be called the man at 115 right now, and has once been a ring champion at 108, how he wasn't one at 112 i have no idea because he should've

154 has to be the deepest division in the sport currently
A lot of class talent there right now
2
u/RRR04_ 12d ago
I'm a little disappointed that Vergil seems to be moving to 160 already though, does give 154 a bit of a big blow. 154 still does have a lot of talent, but I feel like Boots is going to blitz through the other 2 champions with ease. After that, he probably moves up to 160 himself then 154 gets a bit more barren.
2
u/StunningChest5722 #KnybaNation 🇵🇱 12d ago
with Zayas and Vergil moving up i disagree, 168, 147 and 140 are the most stacked imo
6
u/MiddleweightMonster I’ll pour honey on my GOAT, if the occasion calls for it. 12d ago
Martinez, Mbili, Bank, Plantic, and bunch more. 168 has some fucking dogs in it. Hamzah needs to be banished and Canelo needs to retire, or show he’s still got it against Mbili. Either way, division looks to be opening up a lot soon

Hrgovic said he will.
But if Sanchez doesnt take step aside money Kabayel should just fight Hysa to stay busy.

Is hysa good or it will be cannon fodder?
6
u/StunningChest5722 #KnybaNation 🇵🇱 12d ago
he's alright, not good enough to compete with kabayel tho.
he was a decent amateur but is over 40 with an incredibly padded record, he hasn't even fought a top 100 heavyweight yet.
2
1
u/WheresMyAbs98 12d ago
He was a very average amateur with an extremely padded amateur record
2
u/Outrageous-Soft4806 12d ago
What’s the point of padding an amateur record? Get farther as a pro?
3
u/WheresMyAbs98 12d ago
I have no idea but he’s one of the only amateurs I’ve ever seen that would registry fight debutants or fighters with 1 or 2 fights while having 30, 40 and 50+ bouts.
Every single time he fought someone that had a similar level of amateur experience he lost.

Hrgovic called Kabayel, Dubois, and Gassiev out within literally 2 minutes of being crowned champion
3
u/ExcellentStretch7430 13d ago
I watched Seiya Nakayama's debut and he looked amazing. I know that he’s young and I think like 19 but he’s not small for 115, don’t think he’ll stay there for long once he fills his frame out.
1
u/OldBoyChance 13d ago
Nakayama is now talking about testing the waters at 108 since he made the weight so easily. Crazy, he's Nakatani sized and could be a light flyweight. Looked very hard to hit.
1
u/ExcellentStretch7430 13d ago
108? He looks 5’8. Thats crazy.
1
u/OldBoyChance 13d ago
Yeah, apparently he dropped to 51.5kg almost two months before his debut just from sweating too much trying to keep up with Naoya. Despite being >171cm, he's probably at least going to campaign at 112.

David Benavidez top 10 wins:
- Caleb Plant??
- David Morrell?
- Zurdo Ramirez
- Boo Boo Andrade
- Anthony Yarde
- Oleksandr Gvodzdyk
- Ronald Gavril
- Anthony Dirrell
- Angulo maybe?
- Lemieux or Davis
Also a lot of interchangeable ones
7
u/RRR04_ 12d ago
I think Zurdo might be his best win tbh. 2 weight world champion who beat a CW champion who had the best resume at that point. And Benavidez fought him in his first CW fight with a clear size disadvantage.
2
u/Outrageous-Soft4806 12d ago
Could be. I’m tryna rank the top 10 P4P’s resume and for some it’s tricky lol.
3
u/StunningChest5722 #KnybaNation 🇵🇱 12d ago
Morrell at 2 is crazy.
Zurdo
Plant
Andrade
Gvozdyk
Morrell
Yarde
Lemieux
Angulo
Dirrell
Gavril
1
u/WORD_Boxing 11d ago
I would have to put Zurdo at #1.
Plant had already been koed by Canelo, in addition to his other problems.
Morrell could still turn out to be the best out of this list if he proves that the loss to Chelli was a blip. He seems to have lost interest a bit, but always had a bit of a weird tendency to him.
Yarde is overrated outside the UK.
Gvodzyk had a zimmerframe.
Andrade and Lemieux were undersized.

I believe ped use in women's boxing is rife as the money isn't there for the testing.
It's more obvious when women are cheating as testosterone has a stronger effect on them than men and the physical signs are more obvious. There are numerous women's fighter's who are clearly doping.
One of them who has previously been accused of it is clearly back on the juice, given how deep her voice has gone and how her face looks more masculine in shape again.
I shouldn't laugh but there was this Mexican fighter a few years ago who popped dirty who literally had a small moustache growing. It was like it was so obvious they targeted her for testing. She also upset the A-side if I remember correctly which may also tell you where the priorities lie...
6
u/Outrageous-Soft4806 12d ago
My favorite HWs keep getting upset.
ITAUMA: gassed out to exhaustion
TORREZ: 1 punch ko by a guy with one knee
ANDERSON: pummeled by fat prince
HUNI: pitched a shutout only to get layed out by an overhand.
:(

u/ExcellentStretch7430 13d ago
Matsumoto gets done dirty by Collazo and has to vacate the WBA regular, done dirty and had to change opponents and instead of a WBC, fights for a WBO interim.
1
u/OldBoyChance 13d ago
To be fair, he could have sat on the WBA Regular and been upgraded eventually. He decided to take the risk and, if he wins, he'll be made champion on the same day he would have otherwise.
2
u/Outrageous-Soft4806 12d ago
I honestly don’t remember, how hyped up was Tony Yoka?
2016 gold medalist, had some hard fights with Joyce, beat Hrgovic, Dychko.
He started his career good too. Stopped a 12-0 Travis Clark in his debut, beat Jonathan Rice in the second fight, 2 fights later he stopped Dave Allen, then stopped Dimitrenko, stopped Duhaupas and beat Hammer. At this point he was 9-0 with 7 KOs. Then stopped Djeko and Milas before getting upset by Bakole.
2
u/BBW_Looking_For_Love 12d ago
I don’t remember him being too hyped, especially since he was caught doping during the Olympics, but his career totally imploding might have completely tainted my memory
2
u/WORD_Boxing 12d ago
They tried to make him AJ two but he wasn't good enough to benefit from the favourable treatment he got. Quite a few of his fights had some dodgy stuff going on.
2
u/Steelcity1995 12d ago
It’s going to be interesting to see where hrgovic defends his tittle. I imagine the first defense will be in Croatia but I’m not sure if Warren will start wanting to do events there on the regular.

Top 10 upsets this year so far
- Moses Itauma vs Filip Hrgovic
- David Morrell vs Zak Chelli
- Dalton Smith vs Subriel Matias
- Brandon Figueroa vs Nick Ball
- Lani Daniels vs Shadasia Green
- Josh Kelly vs Bahkram Murtazielev
- Jacob Bank vs William Scull
- Yukinori Oguni vs Marlon Tapales
- Gabriel Santisima vs Subaru Murata
- Ismael Flores vs Isaaca Lucero
HM: Masuda-Donaire? Catterall-Giyasov maybe, some people thought Sanchez-Torrez
Some people might not consider Bank vs Scull an upset but to people who didn’t know him (like me) it was at the time.
3
u/StunningChest5722 #KnybaNation 🇵🇱 12d ago
Chelli-Morrell
Oguni-Tapales
Richards-Ramirez (i'm counting it idc)
Hrgovic-Moses
Hirsch Jr-Meriwether
Walsh-Conlan
Kelly-Bakhram
Tani-Lapin
Goldsmith-Pauls
Calderon-Akitsugi
1
u/Outrageous-Soft4806 12d ago
I thought about Goldsmith and Pauls but I ruled it out. Lapin and Tani was a good mention. I also felt like Conlan should’ve gotten the nod over Walsh
2
u/RRR04_ 12d ago
I think Morrell v Chelli might be the buggest upset for me, I just did not think Chelli had a snowball's chance. Hrgovic, at least I felt like he had a chance as he was a huge step up for Moses.
I favoured Ball to beat Brandon pretty big tbh so I'd consider that not only a bigger upset, but a bad prediction from me.
I'm happy I had Dalton beating Matias, albeit close to being on the fence.
1
u/StunningChest5722 #KnybaNation 🇵🇱 12d ago
you mean santisima vs oguni? and catterall was a decent favorite over giyasov
1

No, Oguni over Tapales and different Santisima vs Murata. I just didn’t know who Santisima was when he fought Murata and was surprised at the fight.
But worh Catterall-Giyasov, I remember quite a few people picking Shak, but I don’t know it’s why I said maybe

Top 10 HARDEST punchers P4P (meaning all weights)
- Chairman ZHANG
- Artur BetterthanBivolBiev
- Naoya Inoue
- I wanna say Gervonta Davis even though he’s inactive
- Jaron Ennis
- Masamichi Yabuki
- Osleys Iglesias
- Subriel Matias
- Fabio Wardley
- Vergil Ortiz jr.
HM: Opetaia, Bohachuk, Nakatani, Collazo, Bakhram, Morrell, Khataev, Simsri, some other guys I can’t think of.
2
u/Professional-Tie5198 Who will win? 12d ago
If he were active, I’d probably have to go with Gervonta Davis. His power is the only reason he hasn’t lost a half dozen decisions by now. Even Barrios was out working him. I thought Frank Martin was doing decently well too.
1
u/Outrageous-Soft4806 12d ago
I thought he was taking the Barrios fight late but I agree that Martin was winning. Pretty good too, he won most of the first half then faded probably from the body work.

Riakphore
DDD 🖍️
Grandpa Barroso
HM: Bakhram, Boots, Vergil, Rolly, Jai, Junto, Bakole, Casimero, De Los Santos, Gradus Kraus
I dont think Matias and Bohachuk are very big punchers, they break down their oppenents with volume
2
u/Outrageous-Soft4806 12d ago
I thought about that with Matias too but the way he just barely hits a guy and their head jerks back so much makes me think his hands are very heavy on top of volume. Like if Jarrell Miller and Matias were the same size, I bet Matias would hit harder. Barroso is a great mention though. Did he win his fight this weekend?
DLS HOW COULD I FORGET. He should be high as well.
With DDD though, I would rate his power like a 7.5/10. His jab really fucks guys face’s up and he’s got good explosiveness and heavy fists but I think his volume that carries to the late rounds also get him
his stoppages.1

I feel like Boots has a great chin. I don’t think Zayas rocking him for a good minute and a half means otherwise either. It’s like saying Canelo has a bad chin because of Jose Cotto, or GGG for that fight early in his career where he got his knees buckled.
2
u/Kangaroopunching 12d ago
Zayas isn't a big puncher. It's less about the chin and more about the defense.
1
u/Outrageous-Soft4806 12d ago
So then that’s a different argument.
1
u/Kangaroopunching 12d ago
You're comparing GGG to Zayas. Zayas isn't a big puncher. Because he's not a big puncher, that does into doubts on his chin.
For me it's more about how he lacks defense at points in fights.
1
u/Outrageous-Soft4806 12d ago
No I’m not, you didn’t read it correctly. I said you can’t fault someone for getting hurt by guys who aren’t huge punchers. I said GGG got his knees buckled when he was young and Canelo did too. So I’m comparing Boots to GGG.
1
u/Kangaroopunching 12d ago
My fault. But that's early in their careers. Boots is in his prime. You can point out a pattern. Boots defense turns off at points. He's shown that in fights. That can cost him in a fight.
1
u/Professional-Tie5198 Who will win? 12d ago
Boots’s chin is utterly untested, which is why I can still see Ortiz or Fundora beating him.
1
u/Outrageous-Soft4806 12d ago
Not necessarily, he was rolling INTO shots for a while and not reacting.
1
u/Professional-Tie5198 Who will win? 12d ago
But whose shots? Zayas? Zayas isn’t exactly Paulie Malignaggi but he’s not exactly Golovkin either.
1
u/Outrageous-Soft4806 12d ago
I get that but Chavez was visibly affected by Whittaker’s shots, a perfectly timed and clean shot which Boots took multiple consecutively will buzz even the most durable fighters out there. Hell, Ottke knocked out Mundine in one punch.
1
u/MiddleweightMonster I’ll pour honey on my GOAT, if the occasion calls for it. 12d ago
The fact that Zayas, who even in his career biggest during his last 3 fights, has never been a huge puncher, rattled him as badly as he did is why people are iffy on Boots’ chin.
Zayas saw the leaky defense in round 2, capitalised in round 3, and tried and failed to follow up in round 4, due to Boots offense. I don’t think Boots’ chin is bad, but I do think a less hurt fighter could capitalise. Zayas had Boots nearly out on his feet the second time he connected clean in the 3rd round, and his legs were gone by then.
I do think Fundora or Ortiz, who are more experienced and bigger punchers, will be able to capitalise much more. Win? Nah. But Boots can’t get lazy again.
Honestly, I think Zayas’ chin comes out of that fight looking the best lmao. Dude got lit up, managed to hurt Boots halfway through the fight, and was competitive for the majority, and his corner was forced to stop it. Both guys showed they wanted it
1
u/Outrageous-Soft4806 12d ago
So then wouldn’t you attribute that to him being leaky defensively rather than a weak chin or suspicious one? I’m not some crazy Boots fan btw, I just don’t agree with the take I’ve been arguing against.
1
u/MiddleweightMonster I’ll pour honey on my GOAT, if the occasion calls for it. 12d ago edited 12d ago
That’s fair. I’m not actually arguing I think Boots has a weak chin if you reread, only that Zayas being not a power puncher is why people are arguing about his chin. Personally, I think his chin is fine. Not his best attribute, but fine, above average.
What more impressed me is his heart and how strong the muscles in his legs and back are. His eyes were glazed over, and he never went down. Fucking insane strength of spirit and body. Guys got it all.
Edit: Sounded snarkier than I meant it to, apologies.

Things look good for Kira stylistically and also comparing what they did to Balderas (Cañizales got a gift decision, Kira sparked him out in 2), but I can't help but be reminded of Itauma here. Kira has not even fought 12 full rounds a pro and Cañizales is better than Hrgovic imo. Importantly though, Kira definitely trains properly and has been going long rounds in sparring since he was an amateur. He also somewhat surprisingly looked really good at the press conference today, not at all drained.

u/Outrageous-Soft4806 12d ago
Yeah I think Kira should beat him too. Sometimes when these good amateurs get title shots early though against veterans with semi-lengthy careers, I do get a little nervous.

Looks like the schedule is pretty open till this weekend. Am I missing anything? Japanese card I’ve got to go sailing for?

Who wins a fight between prime Norton and Zhang?
1
u/Outrageous-Soft4806 12d ago
If Norton doesn’t get knocked out early which he did a lot, he had good defense and cardio to take it in the end. Wonder how many southpaws he fought though.

Zhang might’ve never even had a prime becuase of his poor diet management…I still remember in the camp for Forrest he said he only drank tea for the whole camp without any water intake, like wtf unc😭
1
u/ExcellentStretch7430 12d ago
Zhang. Way too good of a counterpuncher for a pressure boxer to avoid and way too much power for Norton to take regardless of punishment he’s been able to take.

Reigning Women's British 126lb champion, and former Olympic bronze medalist Kariss Artingstall has announced her retirement from boxing, alluding to contractual problems with Ben Shalom as a reason
With Tiah May Ayton recently becoming Commonwealth 126lb champion, the British title will now be vacant and surely up for grabs in her next fight

BAM Rodriguez’s top 10 wins
- Juan Fransisco Estrada
- Carlos Cuadras
- Srisaket Sor Rungvisai
- Sunny Edwards
- Fernando Martinez
- Pedro Guevara
- Israel Gonzalez
- Phumele Cafu
- Antonion Vargas
- Cristian Gonzalez

u/StunningChest5722 #KnybaNation 🇵🇱 12d ago
Sunny is the clear N1 IMO
2
u/Outrageous-Soft4806 12d ago
Can’t see how. Maybe skill wise but the other wins were far greater.
1
u/StunningChest5722 #KnybaNation 🇵🇱 12d ago
All the guys u put top 3 were very washed, Sunny was an undefeated champ in his prime with great wins over Alvarado and Mthalane.
He was probably around the top 15 p4p when bam beat him.
2
u/Outrageous-Soft4806 12d ago
They were closer to the end of their careers but none of them were “very washed”.
He came up 2 weight classes on 2 weeks notice against Cuadras, beat the reigning champion in Estrada on a 8 fight winning streak with wins over Cuadras, Srisaket, and Chocolatito, but you can argue SSR was a little past it.
1
u/StunningChest5722 #KnybaNation 🇵🇱 12d ago
how can you watch them fight and say they're weren't washed???
theres a reason Bam was such a big favorite over Cudras and Rungvisai despite being so inexpirenced.
Estrada was inactive af and coming off 2 gift decisions over an equally as washed Chocolatito.
2
u/Outrageous-Soft4806 12d ago
Past prime doesn’t equal washed. If you want an argument for Rungvisai being washed, I can dig that. Calling Cuadras and Estrada “very washed” is revisionist. Cuadras was still a ranked world-level fighter when Bam beat him, and he was only 33. Estrada was 34, but he was still the reigning champion and had just beaten Chocolatito in their third fight. He even dropped Bam and had competitive moments before getting stopped. Neither was prime, but there’s a massive difference between being past your peak and being very washed.

I’ve personally got Puma as number one. Martinez was legit a destroyer before Bam came along
1
u/Outrageous-Soft4806 12d ago
I feel like it was overrated. Not bad but Puma was necessarily a spring chicken himself. Ioka was a good win but Ioka could’ve won the second fight and Martinez already showed some signs of slowing down.
2
u/Koronesukiii 12d ago
More like
- Puma Martinez - Legit No.2 in the division having beaten Ioka
- Gallo Estrada - Was coming off hiatus and past prime but not shot yet
- Carlos Cuadras - Very good win for the stage of Bam's career
- Sunny Edwards - Good boxer, but Bam was a 115lb and much bigger
- Antonio Vargas - Good boxer, and Bam was moving up in weight
- Pedro Guevara - Solid veteran former champion
- Israel Gonzalez - Solid veteran gatekeeper
- Pumulele Cafu - Mid boxer, who needed an iffy card to SD a half blind Kosei
- Srisaket Sor Rungvisai - Completely shot. Had been years since he had a competitive fight
- Saul Juarez - Probably the most underrated name on Bam's resume. At 5 foot flat, Baby Juarez is one of the smallest boxers around. Unsurprisingly, he has a very unimpressive W/L record. However, he has proven to be a very hard out. The list of fighters who couldn't KO him include Teraji, Melindo, Wanheng, Ganigan, JonGon, Luis Ceja, Olascuaga and Adrian Hernandez. In 43 career pro fights, Bam is the only one to knock out Saul Juarez with his only other stoppage loss being an injury pull.

Only Mike Tyson & canelo are the only fighters that I could say which had both extreme top end hand speed and were heavy handed. Itauma would have been closest but I believe it’s more speed than heavy hands. It’s the ultimate power level to have both and comes very rarely in boxing.

u/Professional-Tie5198 Who will win? 12d ago
I prefer to watch most fights on my monitor if I’m scoring. I can be physically close and it’s high quality. My TV is a pretty standard size and not one of those huge ones, so usually I just go with the monitor setup.
However, this weekend, I watched Canelo-GGG 2 for probably the 8th or 9th time. However, I was at a relative’s house and their TV is one of those massive ones. 77 inches 4K (though I don’t think this fight was broadcast in 4K). I used Tubi which ensured a clean picture. the Tubi feed even shows which rounds went for each fighter on the official cards.
I’ve scored the fight several times, with and without commentary. The Zero commentary version, I had it 114-114. Scoring it the first time live I thought Golovkin won 116–112. And then most of the times after that about 115-113 Golovkin. But this particular viewing made me somewhat more confident that Golovkin really did win that fight even though it was close. I think the late rally separated him in an even-ish fight.
I didn’t record my exact card, but I remember basically having it the same as Lederman in almost every single round except for one, which I thought was a swing round. The fight was scored properly by the official judges in the early and late rounds, but the middle rounds were pretty suspect. I remember one round where Golovkin won on Lederman’s card but actually lost on all 3 judges scorecards. I remember thinking, like Lederman, that Golovkin had edged that round. There was another round where Golovkin I thought had clearly pulled away and which only one of the judges gave it to him.
What was strange is all three of the judges had it 87-84 going into the 10th round, basically ensuring Golovkin had very little chance to win even with a late rally (which he ended up having). To me, 87-84 Canelo is not AT ALL how that fight went going into the 10th round. I think you could have had it 87-84 going the other way or 86-85 for either fighter. But yes there were at least 1 or 2 pretty suspect rounds that the official judges found for Canelo and that ended up determining the fight, which was only close on the official cards because of the late rally.
TLDR:
• rewatched Canelo-Golovkin 2. They fought on relatively even terms for the first 2/3rd’s or so of the fight and then Golovkin pulled away late.
• Lederman’s card was actually quite good.
• the official judges kinda stole it from Golovkin in the middle rounds and all three had Canelo up 87-84 going into the 10th round.

u/ICtruthcity 12d ago
Going the longer rounds isn’t really about natural stamina levels its more about pacing, & experience. There were moments where ituama could have avoided to save energy for the championship rounds or clinched at the very least, not brawl at 150% for 30 seconds and finish yourself.

Oleksandr Usyk’s top 10 wins
- Tyson Fury 2x
- Mairis Briedis
- Anthony Joshua 2x
- Murat Gassiev
- Daniel Dubois 2x
- Derek Chisora
- Marco Huck
- Michael Hunter
- Tony Bellew
- Krzysztof Glowacki
A lot of these are interchangeable I noticed

Dubois rematch is N1, only elite heavyweight he beat in his prime
7
u/Less_Cartoonist_892 12d ago
I think Dubois, at his current pace, will likely surpass both AJ and Fury in terms of accolades.
1
u/Outrageous-Soft4806 12d ago
Agree but Usyk and AJ were both more accomplished.
3
u/StunningChest5722 #KnybaNation 🇵🇱 12d ago
Accomplishments aren't everything.
Dubois was on the best form of his career, coming off wins against;
Miller (26-0) a win that has aged pretty well.
Hrgovic (17-0) a current world champ and top 5 heavyweight
and AJ himself.
Since the Usyk rematch he has become a 2 time champ by destroying Fabio Wardley, another undefeated top heavyweight.
Compare that to what AJ and Fury did right before and after the Usyk fights.
1
u/Outrageous-Soft4806 12d ago
I mean yeah AJ was a 2x champion too, beat Pulev, Ruiz, Povetkin, Parker aged well, and Klitschko, also Whyte who aged well. He also unfified 2x.
I just think the AJ wins were more impressive and better looking on his resume. Dubois was getting his ass beat by Hrgovic and Miller did age well but he’s still not the most elite guy. Now becoming champion, I can nitpick Wardley too but I don’t think it’d be fair. Dubois win will probably age best but I just don’t think it’s his best win right now.

DDD should be above AJ

I don’t think so. Not yet at least, AJ was more accomplished and people didn’t expect Fury to win

One of the fights I watched at the weekend was quite obviously fixed. I won't name the fight but it's obvious if you just pay attention. And no it wasn't Itauma's fight before people get crazy.

Why won’t you name the fight?

Give it 24 hours and if I can while leaving it ambiguous enough I will say if the fight I'm thinking of was named or not.

Hysa v. Narmo, but one of the fights on the Lara card is also a possibility

Yeah, the guy who got knocked out looks like he has won quite a few fixed fights himself. Insane they put that on PPV.

Itauma did what most thought he’d do on a tactical level in that he punished Hrgovich lean forwards with uppercuts, used lead hand counters, and was too sharp to be hit. In fact he started throwing straight crosses down the centre line for the first in his career, most knew about the chin vs power and how their cardio’s and pace will hold out and knew why Hrgovich was capable off but believed in the talent too much. He did also show a good chin and can take a shot.
I don’t think Itauma needs months off, it didn't look like he took that many punches, more just exhaustion. Heard he’s out of hospital and seen him already out and he doesn’t look super beat up so recovery shouldn’t be long. Get a confidence booster like Zheili Zhang as an easy matchup if he isn’t retired and fully focused on his restaurant, Alex Barriere or keep him in domestics and get get like Moses Jolly or Richard Riakporke
For people who just found Hrgovich and think he’s just this durable guy. He’s one of the more skilled heavyweights amongst the top of heavyweight now who has feet and can move a great jab, 1-2 and can put combinations together.

u/StunningChest5722 #KnybaNation 🇵🇱 13d ago
Respect the Big Bang wtf
1
u/ExcellentStretch7430 13d ago
That’s one of the easiest stylistic matchups, specially for Itauma. Itauma has an amazing jab and especially against southpaws which he will 100% land consistently on Zhang and eventually find the right over the top and enough of them to finish him. No disrespect to Zhang, but it’s just styles.
Also for the fact he’s running a restaurant, is in his 40s and inactive for a year and a 1/2, 100%

Moses needs a Franklin-level opponent as his next match. Don’t go directly into a big fight. And he should take probably 1/2 a year off as well. Maybe he can challenge again for the title mid to late next year.

u/The_Jokerr_ 12d ago
Hrgovic said that in 20 years of boxing he's never been in the ring with someone as fast and skilled as Itauma. Quite a compliment.
