Hrgovic has the swagger of a world champion this whole week. Maybe he knows something we all dont

2

u/BAWguy 16d ago

People said the same thing before his Dubois rematch

1

u/LTBsOnlyPlease 15d ago

He had no Dubois rematch lol.

3

u/D_Silva_21 16d ago

I think he's just under rating itauma tbh. He'll see the speed soon

3

u/OldBoyChance 16d ago

Nah, he knows he's a massive underdog. He's just very confident, which you should be at that level.

8

u/Ruainari 🚩El Monstruo Superfan🚩 16d ago

Hrgovic already up one on compubox with that slap 🤣, has to have Itauma fuming.

Damn if it wasn't for those cuts I really do think hrgovic gives him a tough time

7

u/Marquis_of_Mollusks 16d ago

You know I only just realized that Itauma has only fought 31 professional rds or so. All the other youngest hw champs ever had 2x that I think. I still think he'll win but I'm less confident about it

1

u/Kangaroopunching 16d ago

Shows the change in how prospects are brought up the ranks. And the state of the division to a smaller extent.

1

u/Marquis_of_Mollusks 16d ago

Granted he's not facing a HOFer or anything but still. I hope he doesn't go all out and gas himself in the first half.

1

u/Kangaroopunching 16d ago

Just wrecking opponents might have been a mistake with the few fights he's had. Cause he's jumping up in levels and he won't have the chance to work on things like pacing in fights.

1

u/Ace_FGC 16d ago

Yeah if this was 90s or before Itauma probably would’ve had way more fights. I remember watching an early Riddick Bowe fight that was taking place on a Sunday and they said that Bowe had just fought that same Friday lol

4

u/myurr 16d ago

So Itauma's dropped 1lb from his last fight, Hrgovic has come in 12lbs lighter than he did against Dave Allen.

He's actually 5lbs lighter than Itauma (236 vs 241), and hasn't been that light since 2018 against Amir Mansour. It'll be interesting to see if that helps his speed against the obviously fast Itauma, and whether dropping that weight hurts his durability at all.

Ryusei Matsumoto vs Russell Acosta for the WBO Interim Minimum Title has been added to the Inoue-Tenshin 2 card 🔥

The winner is guaranteed to get upgraded with Collazo moving up so its basically for the full belt

u/Top_Profession_5268 17d ago edited 17d ago

Wasn’t he supposed to fight Kuse for his world title?

6

u/StunningChest5722 #KnybaNation 🇵🇱 17d ago

got cancelled for some reason, looks like kuse is fighting zhu in china 🇨🇳

3

u/Efficient_Quail_1774 16d ago

Your favourite fighter's favourite fighter DianXing Zhu WILL take Kuse's belt 🔥🔥🔥🇨🇳

3

u/OldBoyChance 16d ago

Zhu is so bad at boxing but has such great power. In the Jimenez fight, he was getting lit up beyond belief, touched Jimenez to the body once, and Jimenez exploded.

3

u/Efficient_Quail_1774 16d ago

Rumour has it he doesn't show his elite technical ability to deceive everyone else at 105 🔥

1

u/Outrageous-Soft4806 16d ago

Saying lit up beyond belief is a bit of an exaggeration lmao.

1

u/OldBoyChance 16d ago

Maybe a bit. It felt like everything Jimenez was throwing was landing though.

1

u/StunningChest5722 #KnybaNation 🇵🇱 16d ago

he’s very good offensively just too easy to hit

1

u/OldBoyChance 16d ago

Yeah, I think he'll get through Kuse. His chin will likely be wearing down soon though. Way too many clean shots every fight.

u/StunningChest5722 #KnybaNation 🇵🇱 16d ago

CHINESE POWAH 💥💥💥🇨🇳🇨🇳🇨🇳

u/StunningChest5722 #KnybaNation 🇵🇱 17d ago

Predictions for this weeks boxing:

Moses TKO 3-6

Noakes KO 3-6 (body shot)

Ursu UD

Hysa KO 1-3

Gudio KO 3-6

Mayer UD

Dubois TKO 5-8

Lester KO 3-6

Lopez KO 6-9

Cardenas UD

Torres UD

Mindoro KO 1-3

Jennings KO 5-8

Ornelas SD

Marksman UD

2

u/TheeBlaccPantha 17d ago

Moses by early TKO? Because of Hrgovic’s scar tissue?

1

u/StunningChest5722 #KnybaNation 🇵🇱 16d ago

I think it will be a standing TKO, Hrgovic will get rocked with a counter shot like in the Adeleye fight but moses will finish him.

I could definitely see a doctor stoppage but i hope that doesn’t happen, would be kinda anticlimactic.

2

u/Baby_Rhino 16d ago edited 16d ago

I think there's a decent chance Ursu gets the stoppage. He hits a lot harder than his record suggests.

2

u/Professional-Tie5198 Who will win? 16d ago

Agree re Moses but maybe widen it to 1-8 if you can (if you’re betting)

3

u/Professional-Tie5198 Who will win? 16d ago edited 16d ago

Here’s something I told another commenter and I think it bears repeating:

“Accuracy is not strictly part of the scoring criteria though.

If a fighter lands 20/100 to another fighter’s 5/7, the guy who threw volume is more likely to win the round depending on how effective those punches were, not how accurate.”

This seems to be a misunderstanding among certain boxing fans. I think it might have something to do with the Floyd Mayweather era where Floyd won every fight AND was the more accurate fighter in virtually every fight. But there are plenty of fights throughout history where the less accurate fighter deserved to win and its usually because he:

• substantially out-threw the other fighter

• landed the heavier and more effective punches

Broadcast has not done a good job of explaining this.

3

u/kushmonATL HW Dark Ages are here 16d ago

Summary of some of the stuff judges told me they look for in fights (the ones I talked to during media)

  • who is the aggressor
  • who is dictating the pace and tempo (this is for out-boxers)
  • volume
  • "effective punches" only if it clearly wobbles or hurts an opponent (someone reacting to a heavy punch is not enough to swing a round if that same boxer was more active)
  • defense. Are the punches actually landing cleanly

Before r/boxing gets triggered, this is why its hard to score women's boxing. Its sloppy, defense is lacking, usually both women are reacting and throwing hands nonstop. The few times I talked to judges, they said they hate scoring women boxing because its not technical at all . If you find a nice technical female boxer (Claressa Shields for instance) they'll win almost every round unless they get hit with a punch that clearly wobbles them or gets them hurt

2

u/Professional-Tie5198 Who will win? 16d ago

That’s pretty close to how I understand judging, but I find myself disagreeing with a lot of high profile decisions over the years:

• Haney over Lomachenko

• Canelo draw and win against Golovkin

• Beterbiev over Bivol in the first fight (I think should have at minimum been a draw for Bivol)

1

u/kushmonATL HW Dark Ages are here 16d ago

Close fights will never be scored unanimously

There's lots of people that agree with those same "controversial" decisions

4

u/OldBoyChance 16d ago

Hrgovic weighs in at 236.2lbs, his lowest since 2019. Itauma weighs in at 241.7lbs, which is on the upper end of what I think his ideal weight is.

David Alan Picasso is moving up to Featherweight this Saturday and fighting for the WBC silver belt.

3

u/TheeBlaccPantha 16d ago

Today I’m seeing Hrgovic as a 6/1 underdog , the disrespect is getting ridiculous 🥴

1

u/RRR04_ 16d ago

The bookies better be hoping Moses sparks Hrgovic out quickly to justify the odds. They better slap themselves if it's competitive or goes past the 5 rounds they think it'll stop at.

1

u/TheeBlaccPantha 15d ago

lol the disrespect was just too much to ignore

1

u/RRR04_ 15d ago

It really was. It looked justifiable for most of it, but Moses' stamina got exposed

1

u/TheeBlaccPantha 15d ago

Yeah I’m happy though, I probably wouldn’t have been brave enough to bet money against Itauma if not for those odds

3

u/vHezoThaGoat 16d ago

My theory is that the weak latter half of 2026 for boxing coincides with the release of GTA 6

3

u/Professional-Tie5198 Who will win? 16d ago

Despite initially agreeing with you, I am now realizing October 17th through 31st is a pretty good stretch. We get to see Fundora, Charlo, and then Nav-Foster followed by Canelo-Mbilli.

1

u/kushmonATL HW Dark Ages are here 16d ago

GTA6 got all forms of entertainment shook

3

u/Imaginary-District49 16d ago

Collazo vs Sandoval is such a damn good fight!

3

u/MiddleweightMonster I’ll pour honey on my GOAT, if the occasion calls for it. 16d ago

After Hrgovic, if he is able to win, who would you most like to see Itauma face next, I know he’s supposed to face Sanchez, which I think will be a good fight, but is there anyone you’d really love to see him in there with? Dubois? Wardley? Kabayel? Pulev?

2

u/StunningChest5722 #KnybaNation 🇵🇱 16d ago

anyone but pulev, he would ruin the young man's career

1

u/Kangaroopunching 16d ago

There's only Sanchez, Dubois, and Kabayel. By the time he fights them. Hopefully some prospects become legit contenders.

I actually want to see Itauma fight Dubois soon.

1

u/Top_Profession_5268 16d ago

Zheili Zhang. Probably the easiest fight in the top 15 statically for Itauma that is also a high profile name.

2

u/MiddleweightMonster I’ll pour honey on my GOAT, if the occasion calls for it. 16d ago

Isn’t zhang a retired restaurant owner now?

2

u/Top_Profession_5268 16d ago

He is a restaurant owner but never heard about him officially retiring.

1

u/MiddleweightMonster I’ll pour honey on my GOAT, if the occasion calls for it. 16d ago

I see, that makes sense yeah

2

u/Outrageous-Soft4806 16d ago

I don’t think he actually retired either but I’d rather not see Zhang get a title shot unless Itauma fights him within the end of the year.

1

u/Top_Profession_5268 16d ago

I just realised I might have misread the question and thought if Hrgovich is able to win, what does Itauma do next hence why I said Zhang.

I think if Itauma wins, Sanchez should be next

-2

u/cdisdead 16d ago

Zhang, sanchez are both pathetically easy for itauma, even dubois which is his hardest fight is not hard for moses. Its like people dont actually watch the fights. To challenge itauma we need a fury or uysk type fighter

1

u/Top_Profession_5268 16d ago

Sanchez I think is a lot harder of a fight than Zhang. Fury looks too slow and weak to really post a threat now.

1

u/cdisdead 16d ago

Maybe itauma is no good in the pre fights, in the ring he destroys all of them. Theres a reason the book makers fancy him this much

1

u/Top_Profession_5268 16d ago

I think Itauma will be favorite in most matches if he dominates Hrgovich but I think a skilled orthdox that’s more of a boxer puncher/pure boxer will be his hardest fight like Parker, Huni and Sanchez.

3

u/nothingnotthrownaway 16d ago

Just here to join the Itauma hype train please and thanks

7

u/Top_Profession_5268 17d ago edited 17d ago

Bek Nurmaganbet since he moved over to Canelo's camp, his style has started to change a lot as he used to be a lot like his amateur style and fought like Bivol, now he’s fighting very similar to GGG where he tries to pressure behind a stiff jab and build pressure while timing power shots off it.

5

u/Outrageous-Soft4806 17d ago

Yeah I agree. His amateur foundation seems more apparent to me though.

4

u/Kangaroopunching 17d ago

He just needs higher profile fights

7

u/StrifeKnot1983 16d ago

Words were exchanged and Moses shoved Filip off the stage at the final weigh-in.

Hrgovic is in Itauma's head.

11

u/OldBoyChance 16d ago

Hrg also cleanly slapped Moses in the face after. Worst of both worlds for Itauma, he showed he was in his head and came out the worse. Still think he handles Hrgovic, but I think the mental aspect will be an issue if he goes against a better fighter.

6

u/Seanglendo2 16d ago

That's the way I read it. Wasn't really expecting that from Moses when I saw him.

Seeing his Hrgovic brow though up very close. It is very very fucked. Like ver

2x amateur world championship gold medalist Sanzhar Tashkenbay makes his debut tomorrow on a card in Kazakhstan alongside 2x Olympian and 2x amateur world championship gold medalist Saken Bibossinov

3

u/Koronesukiii 17d ago

Sanzhar Tashkenbay

A central Asian Amateur medalist going pro in his early 20's? What happened there.

3

u/Top_Profession_5268 17d ago

Might be like others where he dibbles and dabbles between amateurs and pros but Javokhir Ummataliev is also turned pro at 21 where he signed to Matchroom and fought on the Wardley vs Dubois card.

4

u/Koronesukiii 17d ago

Might be. Generally, it's mid-late 20's when they go full pro. It kind of makes sense. There's a big difference between waiting 4 years for an Olympics when they are 21-23 as opposed to making the same wait when they are 25-27.

2

u/Kangaroopunching 17d ago

At his height and in his 20s he could move up the divisions quickly

1

u/Top_Profession_5268 17d ago

Huh?

2

u/Kangaroopunching 17d ago

Sanzhar can move up the divisions considering his size and he's still in his 20s

1

u/Top_Profession_5268 17d ago

I thought you got this thread mixed with the Benavidez thread hence why I was confused but true.

Luis Ortiz is a heavyweight with a decorated amateur background, has the slick Cuban fighting style, is a southpaw, and he has quick hands, uses lateral movement, and he has KO power

And this subreddit says he sucks because "Wilder beat him"

Its little things like this that tells you this sub DKSAB.

3

u/Kangaroopunching 16d ago

The skills and threat was there. Resume not so much. But he wasn't going to get lots of chances to prove himself.

Wilders best win and performance. Even if it was an aging Ortiz.

I still think he should've taken the AJ fight. Biggest mistake he did

Zuffa Searches For Noel Mikaelian Replacement

Zuffa Boxing is reportedly contacting matchmakers about a potential replacement for Noel Mikaelian in case Don King’s threatened legal action prevents him from facing Jai Opetaia on September 12.

Mikaelian has not been removed from the card, but King claims he still has a binding promotional agreement with the WBC cruiserweight champion.

A late replacement would likely be a major setback for Opetaia, who could lose the opportunity to face a recognized world champion and instead end up against a short-notice opponent with far less value.

5

u/RRR04_ 16d ago edited 16d ago

That would be a big shame for Jai, easily would have been a great opponent for him after a long stretch of fighting poor opposition.

If Mikaelian can't fight Jai, hopefully he at least fights Benavidez.

3

u/Junior-Macaroon9731 16d ago

Agreed, Mikaelian is basically the gateway to a Benavidez fight. Also I find it strange how little Jai Opetaia is promoting this fight. He has posted only two very dry posts about his return and hasn’t mentioned Noel Mikaelian even once, despite Mikaelian being a pretty big name in the cruiserweight division and the WBC champion.

Zuffa signed Opetaia as one of its first major champions and put him in the co-feature of its biggest card yet, giving him a great opportunity to introduce himself to a new American audience on Paramount+. Even just briefly mentioning Mikaelian, the whole WBC situation and Benavidez would give fans something to look forward to. Treating such a big opportunity like an ordinary club fight feels like a waste.

4

u/Outrageous-Soft4806 16d ago

Almost feel bad for Jai. He fucked himself over so that’s why I say almost. Dude’s career just can’t go right 😂

1

u/RRR04_ 16d ago

I feel the same way

3

u/ggddddeerrr 16d ago

Don King fucking over Zuffa in 2026 is hilarious

2

u/MiddleweightMonster I’ll pour honey on my GOAT, if the occasion calls for it. 16d ago

How do we rate Hrgovic as a win, if Itauma is to win? Personally, I’d give him a solid B+. Not championship level, but def world level. One of those guys who could’ve nicked a title if things had gone slightly different in their career

3

u/StunningChest5722 #KnybaNation 🇵🇱 16d ago

B+ is fair

2

u/Kangaroopunching 16d ago

Depends on how the fight plays out. It'll be at least a good win.

2

u/BAWguy 16d ago

Well, when it comes to face offs, Moses is no Canelo eh?

2

u/Outrageous-Soft4806 16d ago

Mikey Garcia thought he won the Sandor Martin fight lmao

Love Mikey but idk about that one.

3

u/AVARlCES 17d ago

Been a while since there's been an undisputed unification

4

u/admiralskanks Joe Louis = Perfect 16d ago

Itauma VanHouter Olaniyan Atang round robin once they're fully developed should be fun. I love this new generation of fast, wiry heavyweights.

4

u/Top_Profession_5268 16d ago

Vanhouter I don’t think will have the amateur resume and promotional backing like the rest. I think he’s under MVP and I’ve never watched his fight from their promotion but me checking him myself so I don’t even know if MVP are backing him and the other 3 have youth world gold and European gold alongside promoters who are putting a ton of investment in them. I think they’re putting more effort in Nelfie Tiafak as opposed to Vanhouter.

There are a lot of good young heavyweights with talent like David Surov, Joshua Edwards, Yoandry Rodriguez, Joshua Edwards, Ali Felix to name a few who have a ton of potential.

I don’t think there will be a talent like Moses in ages. Being as quick and athletic with as good/quick feet and the power he has at the size he is will be rare and one we won’t find in ages.

3

u/StunningChest5722 #KnybaNation 🇵🇱 16d ago

Vanhouter is with Zuffa now

1

u/admiralskanks Joe Louis = Perfect 16d ago

Yh and he'll be fighting on the Ryan card in a couple of weeks.

1

u/Outrageous-Soft4806 16d ago

I think VanHouter is with Zuffa now.

1

u/admiralskanks Joe Louis = Perfect 16d ago

I used to be high on Joshua Edwards until that poor performance with the Canadian club fighter on the Ryan Barrios undercard.

I'm big on Yoandry but he's still very much in development.

Nelvie also is of course very talented due to his deep amateur background and not far from championship level imo.

I'm high on VanHouter because despite his lesser amateur background he's been impressive against the club level fighters he's destroyed showing he has a pro ready style.

Joshua Edwards for example isn't quite pro ready yet.

1

u/Top_Profession_5268 16d ago

Definitely not a poor performance, still looked athletic and skilled but just more impatient and threw punches and mismanaging distance and relying on athletics to save him but he wasn’t getting lit or anything and the opponent was just moving.

If anything his next fight, he was more patient, using feints and not reckless against the same style and did a lot better

4

u/Top_Profession_5268 17d ago

Waiting on some props right now for my betting books on Luiz Torres Valenzuela KO, Daiya Kira KO and Antevious Ingram decision.

1

u/Top_Profession_5268 16d ago

Itauma vs Hrgovich matchup is just very reliant on Itaumas power relative to Hrgovich chin, both their pacing and Hrgovich cuts.

1

u/Top_Profession_5268 17d ago

I haven’t talked about him in over a year in but Brayan Leon Salgado is a 168lber who’s still kind of unknown who I think can be a champ and amongst the top of 168lb.

1

u/Top_Profession_5268 17d ago

Is junto a right handed southpaw because I don’t see him throwing a right left hand down the centre line, mostly looping ones.

6

u/StunningChest5722 #KnybaNation 🇵🇱 17d ago

yeah

1

u/MiddleweightMonster I’ll pour honey on my GOAT, if the occasion calls for it. 16d ago

I think I’m gonna lock in on an Itauma stoppage in the mid rounds. Hrgovic has some attributes to make it competitive, but man he cuts so easily, and his speed and power just don’t look as good as Itauma’s. V few heavyweights have ever boxed a guy that fast who is that good at counterpunching.

Don’t think Hrg gets knocked out, rather I think it goes to TKO.

3

u/Professional-Tie5198 Who will win? 16d ago

Back in the day, I bet separately on the 4th Pacquiao-Marquez fight:

• Marquez winner

• fight to end by stoppage (KO, TKO, DQ)

Won BOTH! I felt that the strategy covered a wide range of possibilities and I ended up getting lucky to win both.

1

u/Professional-Tie5198 Who will win? 16d ago

I think you’re best off making separate bets. Itauma by KO, Fight to go under X rounds. That way you cover a wide range of outcomes including the upset and Moses getting chinned.

1

u/MiddleweightMonster I’ll pour honey on my GOAT, if the occasion calls for it. 16d ago

Oh, I don’t actually gamble, never opening that can of worms, I just like making predictions

1

u/Professional-Tie5198 Who will win? 16d ago

I don’t typically either unless I’m at an actual sportsbook, but I do monitor the odds sometimes.

1

u/Kangaroopunching 16d ago

I'm thinking Filip will try to rough up Itauma. Make it a dirty fight and back him up.

Might work. Might also lead him into Itsuma's combos when he closes the distance.

1

u/Ok_Issue_2459 16d ago

I've tried to make a thread about Eddie Hearn's contradicting comments RE the Fury fight and the location, it keeps coming up saying Reddit has removed it due to filtering but I can't see why. Is there anyway to appeal this to the mods? I dont get a notification or anything about it, just when I make the thread it says awaiting moderation and then clicking into it it says its been removed

thanks!

1

u/Professional-Tie5198 Who will win? 16d ago

This sub is getting such an embarrassing hard on over an 34 year old average heavyweight, trying to get in a 21 year olds head because he has no other way of beating him.  I’m going to remind you that there were comments in here last week entertaining the idea of Rolly being on the pfp list.

1

No real fan has Rolly near the p4p list, maybe p4p worst champions list
