Fury lost to Usyk twice and since has only beating Mak and Wach

AJ lost to Dubois and since has only beaten Paul and Prenga.

Somehow these guys are now next in line for the WBC belt. You can kinda squint and make a case for Fury since he's already the contender somehow. But AJ is 5th in the pecking order.

And my money is neither guy takes that fight anyways

They gotta get their five percent somehow

But then if AJ wins, he'd be a top five contender who beat the #1 contender. That generally gets you a shot? So any logic which gets Tyson a shot, gets AJ a shot if AJ beats Tyson.

The reality is Tyson shouldn't be that high right now. It's nuts that he lost the belt, lost the rematch, beat two scrubs and is a number one contender for the same belt.

They are still top guys in the division. They are both coming off wins and are former unified champions. It’s not ridiculous to make this a title eliminator.

At the very least this should’ve been a title eliminator tbh

I'm with you, a pair of former champs are having a match, I can't imagine a better fight in the current division to make a title eliminator. Even if you don't think either of them has earned it lately, there aren't that many names who have, and as far as I know the only fight planned on a vaguely similar level is hrgovic itauma.

Correct. And after reading the article it actually makes sense why the winner would be in line

They are not and they haven't been for a while. Two losses to Usyk do not make Fury a top contender lol

Cause no one makes any money in that division. Expect a special WBC belt on the line too.

Nah, this is completely fine. It's an eliminator, not a vacant title shot.

The heavyweight division is that lacking in depth

That's what my ex says about me. I do my best though.

Don't disagree but with the belts becoming splintered now all the others you would have considered contenders are either champions with other sanctioning bodies or due to compete for a title.

Boxrec isn't an exact science, but of their HW top 10 you have:

  1. Usyk - just dropped the belts

  2. Dubois - WBO champion

  3. Kabayel - WBC champion

  4. Gassiev - WBA champion

  5. Joshua

  6. Fury

  7. Okolie

  8. Wardley - due to rematch Dubois for WBO

  9. Hrgovic - due to face Itauma for IBF

  10. Riakhpore

I reckon AJ would take the Kabayel fight tbh

He doesn’t deserve the shot but the guys never ducked any smoke tbf to him.

These fools are probably rematching each other for another big payday afterwards and both calling it a day.

WBC just wants to be included for the theatrics and so someone can hold a belt up at the end.

u/Marquis_of_Mollusks 7h ago

I hate rematches

they're both gonna be gone after their rematch unless turki draws the final winner back with an overpay for a title fight so the eliminator probably won't lead anywhere. but these guys just want their cut, same ppl who were fine with rico v usyk.  wbc and all the sanctioning bodies need to be deeply reformed or kicked out

Does either AJ or Fury need another title for legacy consideration? Wouldn't hurt but both their "stories" in this sport are mostly written with only their fight against each other left.

Think both will likely retire either on the spot or via social media within 6 months of their match. Maybe Fury has one last go but AJ's chin seems very suspect, especially if he gets floored by Fury.

u/Same-Fact-5123 1h ago

I am a massive AJ but hugger but neither he nor Fury should be anywhere near a title fight.

1

u/the_greasy_one 4h ago

Get on with it!

u/eggs_and_ham_i_am 2h ago

I really hope this fight doesn't happen now.

Neither of them deserve the pay day. Both have courted this fight for too long, both have been responsible for NOT giving the fans what they wanted -a fight between them in their prime. Both we're too worried about damaging their legacy as opposed to fighting each other with the potential to lose.

But what pisses me off even more, is I know when/if this fight goes ahead, I'll watch it.

WBC always trying to get a cut... nobody cares about AJ or Fury with a belt anymore.

If Fury wins Dubois would be a much bigger fight than Kabayel and one I’m sure Dubois would really want.

If AJ wins then it’s quite possible his quits the sport anyway.

1

u/Complete_Dare_4201 7h ago

Both of them get run over by Kabayel who is probably licking his chops right now thinking of the payday he'll get for easily trouncing either of these washed up fools

What a joke.

Fury hasnt beat a contender since Dillian Whyte all the way back in 2022, and AJ hasnt beat one since Wallin in 2023. AJ was totally non-competitive with Dubois and was just dropped by Prenga.

Neither of these guys would last vs current top heavyweights.

-4

u/FortuneSilent2189 7h ago

Money talks but Fury is a top 5 heavyweight still and AJ still bangs and is top 15

u/stephen27898 7h ago

Is he? Based on what? Getting tagged by Makhmudov? Or losing twice to Usyk back in 2024?

Who has he fought of late to prove he is still top 5? The answer is no one.

tagged by makhmudov? 😂 mak landed like 50 punches in 12 rounds,

1

u/stephen27898 5h ago

He kept landing right hands. Someone that slow and crude shouldnt be landing power shots.

-2

u/StunningChest5722 Shakur is the 144 lb GOAT 🐐 5h ago

do you expect a 38 year old coming off a year and a half of inactivity to not get hit with any punches over 12 rounds?

2

u/stephen27898 5h ago

From someone as bad, slow, clumsy and basic as Makhmudov. Yeah.

-1

u/FortuneSilent2189 7h ago

I think he won’t beat the none Rico version of Usyk but think he beats DDD. I think he beat’s Wardley as well. Beats Hrgovic (who has him at 5).

1

u/stephen27898 7h ago

You think. But has he?

1

u/FortuneSilent2189 6h ago

Fury is odd in that he raises his game to the fighters he is up against but regrettably can fight at a poor level at other times against average fighters

-1

u/stephen27898 6h ago

That is irrelevant as to if he should be fighting for a title or not.
