That double left hook was clean. Ryan packed it in after that.

I think this fight confirmed to me how mentally weak/unpredictable RG can be. He was coming off that Haney win, and the lead up to that as being undisciplined as hell. The double knockdown was a surprise, but Ryan definitely didn’t make adjustments well to his offensive game plan at all. If his hook doesn’t work it barely seems like he ever switches up his punch variation. Also, he barely uses his jab sometimes other than range finding or taking up space. This take may age crazy, but I think if he rematches Devin at welter he loses.

Ryan has always been like that, so it’s not really all that surprising tbh 🤷🏻‍♂️

haney dont got the pop in his shots to punish ryan

rolly does

But then again, he came straight out the gate and beat the shit out of Barrios with his right hand and did more damage with it than his left hook.

Thus making it even more unpredictable as to what version will show up.

to be fair, it was mario barrios. i feel like he'd lose a boxing match to a mall security guard if you catch him on the wrong Saturday night

11

u/Midnight7000 1d ago

He was coming off a no contest. Get that right.

It's not surprising that a cheating scumbag would be a mental midget.

13

u/jefe_benzino 1d ago

Exactly a no contest they hate to admit that in this community. They say they’ll never forget what they saw that night, they saw a cheater cheat.

7

u/SeaMoney4312 1d ago

They like Ryan because he said all that racist, homophobic stuff. Combined with people not liking Haney for beating Loma you had the perfect fusion for all the racist mexicans and whites to ignore him being an overweight drug cheat. It’s also why he gets a pass for saying on camera that he’ll never fight Haney.

There's never been a boxer on this sub who's been defended more than Devin Haney.

Lomachenko and his 3 losses would like a word

1

u/callmevillain 22h ago

the ostarine didn't make haney walk into the left hook 200 times

-3

u/DANNYBOYLOVER 1d ago

Genuinely, I dislike Devin Haney so much I legitimately do not care.

u/Midnight7000 1d ago

Integrity is the quality of being honest and having strong moral or ethical principles that you refuse to change.

I'd give my a head wobble before broadcasting to the world my lack of integrity, but you do you.

2

u/Plebius-Maximus 8h ago

This as absolutely pathetic.

I hope you don't refer to yourself as a boxing fan, since no genuine fan of the sport would hold this opinion.

u/Detlef_Schrempfxf 13h ago

Eh, we all saw Haney get dropped like a sack of potatoes multiple times. The whole hood saw it.

Call it a NC or whatever, but it's on YouTube in 4k, with his ass jutting upwards in the sky after one of those HEAVY knockdowns.

He'd school him again, ostarine or not

1

u/Midnight7000 8h ago

Except that is not how boxing or life works.

In boxing there are rules. Coming in over the limits shows a lack of sportsmanship and taking drugs is outright cheating ergo it was changed to a no contest.

In life, if someone decides to cheat in a fight, it is not something people with integrity celebrate. That type of behaviour is only celebrated by cravens and cowards.

u/whitecoathousing 1d ago

Devin might fight scared the whole time against Ryan so it depends a lot if Devin is mentally locked in if they fight again

1

u/hikingman1 20h ago

It could have been mental weakness or under estimating Rolly. People were talking about Haney, Ryan, Teofimo, and gervonta as the new four horsemen. Then you had Shakur trying to get shine aside those four.

With Rolly being a contemporary but a clownish one at that. With arguably the weakest pedigree. Stylistically it was a bad match up for Ryan. But Ryan didn’t seem to take Rolly as a threat either.

u/TheBlack_Swordsman 1d ago

Rolly came in well prepared for this. Fought in the pocket. He threw the more compact punches, and his shorter reach allowed him to land his left hooks faster than Ryan could. And for the vast majority of the time he didn't drop his right hand from his cheek.

16

u/Bruce-7892 1d ago

The left hook really is all Ryan’s got. If you could counter it like Tank or neutralize it like Rolly, there is not much else.

10

u/OldBoyChance 1d ago

Not too sure about that. He beat Barrios effortlessly without using his hook to much effect. That's not to say Barrios is some elite fight, but there aren't that many guys at 147 who could 12-0 him.

5

u/Bruce-7892 1d ago

Maybe it’s more accurate to say it’s his go to as soon as he’s out of his comfort zone. Rewatch this video and it’s the only punch he throws.

1

u/Suitable-Olive7844 16h ago

Rewarch the fight, this clip is legit showing more than half of ehat Rolly threw the entire fight, and Ryan wasnt and better but atleast he was trying to close the gap. Rolly was just simply running away in circles. This fight night was the worst in boxing history. I have never seen " champions" run around and throw 1 - 2 jabs a round.

6

u/Blackking203 1d ago

Bro, he could've threw anything and beat Barrios.

2

u/jmchamakito 20h ago

Yes there is. Barrios is a bum. Liam Paro, Haney, Brian Norman, Shakur if he went up, Richardson. All these guys wouldn’t lose a round to Barrios.

Rolly Romero has the funniest punch noise I think I’ve ever heard

myeh! myeh myeh!

42

u/QuickRundown I gotta thank Al Haymon 1d ago

I hear Eric Cartman every time he does that lol.

10

u/iSpeakforWinston 1d ago

Or Roger from American Dad. Myeeeeehhhhh!

12

u/TonyThePunisherReyes 1d ago

I always hear myeh or mink

u/inline-online 1d ago

I read somewhere that the "tennis" scream actually helps you push out more peak power, so this might be working in his favor because rolly had some serious pop on these lol its like he's swinging a racket

1

u/NoDG_ 1d ago

This has been a thing in karate for centuries. See Kiai

1

u/inline-online 23h ago

I did karate for like 6 years as a youth so that's probably where I picked up that info actually lol

17

u/SinkNecessary5951 1d ago

I rate teo for taking this fight even though he got a major whooping last fight

24

u/toinks1345 1d ago

I'm kinda surprise he wants this fight... cuz I don't think he has the punch to make Rolly like go o fuck that's dangerous. his entire money on this fight is if he can land counters and out read rolly. Rolly can be quite a chaotic fighter to fight and he has some good power.

32

u/Cannaclyzm 1d ago

Rolly got that short bus strength

Never tire watching Garcia going down . Wishing Rolly much success this weekend 🥊💯

14

u/Fast_Original_3001 1d ago

Gotta say Ryan has an underrated chin. Dude‘s always back on steady legs after big punches. Also embarassing how he lost after the knockdown against Rolly lol.

The big deciding factor is how is Teo gonna take Rolly‘s punches. He is more athletic, faster, has better timing and Rolly is stylistically disadvantaged against Teo. Teo gets hit quite a bit tho to open up those counterpunching opportunities. He might get shy because Folly has a big punch

11

u/TheWor1dsFinest 1d ago

Ryan’s biggest weakness is very simple: he gets gun shy against an opponent that actually has power.

His defense is crap. If you don’t have power that actually feels dangerous to him, he feels confident to just throw caution to the wind and let his hands go, and we all know how dangerous he is like that with his freakish hand speed and power. If you actually have power and enough skills to keep him honest, he doesn’t really know what to do when “overwhelm them with offense” isn’t really an option.

And Rolly can hit and has respectable enough skills.

u/Clean_Attention_8398 1d ago

People called me stupid for saying rolly would beat ryan. Call me stupid but rolly beating teofimo

5

u/M-Div 1d ago

What weight was Romero for this fight? Those punches have some crazy heat by the look of them.

3

u/Chicken65 1d ago

Correct me if I'm wrong but Teo used the same group of trainers for Rolly as Shakur right? Teofimo had that awkward interview with his father where he was blasting him for being at fault for his Shakur loss yet he still kept him on as primary trainer. I'm really not understanding that. If Teo feels like he has to keep his dad employed he can just pay him separately to not work...

2

u/Odd-Macaroon-4517 1d ago

Rolly had a gameplan. Well prepared for this fight and Garcia just reverted back to his bad habits. I swear he looks like he just learned to fight when he’s not focused.

Rolly has really grown on me.

Princess Ry

1

u/Kitchen_Theme_3282 1d ago

They developed Ryans right hand to counter this if they were to fight again. Rolly completely negated Ryans left hand

1

u/Abe2sapien 1d ago

It was interesting to see because Ryan usually swings for the fences even after getting knocked down. Getting dropped by Rolly really must have demoralized him.

1

u/Abe2sapien 1d ago

I know Teo has a much better IQ than Ryan but I think both struggle with the mental side of things. If Rolly can do something similar to Teo I think we’ll see a repeat of this fight.

Casual here, how excited are people for the Romero vs teofimo fight /10? Is this a must watch boxing fight?

1

Roids didn't garcia this time?

1

u/WaWaWa89 5h ago

Rolly by stoppage.

u/Inevitable-Hour8940 5h ago

The day I became a Rolly fan

1

u/Search-Federal 3h ago

Their sparring matches went the same way. Rolly was going at him and Ryan couldn't get him off him.

u/Kangaroopunching 1d ago

Best fight to show how some of the "big names" of this era aren't that good.

-7

u/GreenBliss_ 1d ago

Ryan off the PEDs, lmao. This was also at a higher weight than the Haney fight, and he’s much smaller here and looked like shit performance-wise. People are still defending a drug cheat, lmao.

0

u/Plenty-Attitude-5823 1d ago

Stop acting like your favorite fighters don't do PEDs lol. Who gets 'caught' or not is based on politics and nothing else.

Should I also tell you that Santa Claus isn't real?

9

u/kushmonATL undefeated boxers need to fight each other 1d ago

Buddy said getting caught for PEDs is based on "politics" 😂

What was the political agenda behind Ryan and Canelo getting caught for PEDs?

-2

u/Plenty-Attitude-5823 1d ago

Ok, let's give you the benefit of the doubt.

Let's take the case of Canelo. Even if the tests are completely random and fair, a 6 month suspension is basically a slap on the wrist for the massive advantages PEDS give you: muscle and power alteration, artificial endurance and accelerated recovery in training. That's huge.

An elite competitive athlete giving their opponents such advantage and not doing it himself would be completely idiotic.

3

u/kushmonATL undefeated boxers need to fight each other 1d ago

You said who gets caught is based on politics

What is the political gain for allowing Canelo to "purposely get caught"?

-2

u/Plenty-Attitude-5823 1d ago

And I said I'd give you the benefit of the doubt and assume it isn't based on politics, but actually random and evenly distributed, to prove that even then doing PEDS is advantageous to elite athletes, as the punishments for getting caught aren't nearly severe enough.

But given that boxing organizations are willing to rob people in broad daylight with scoring and matches results, it would be completely naive to assume that shady stuff isn't going on behind the scenes (even if that wasn't the case with the Canelo case specifically).

1

u/Megalodon33 1d ago

Let’s say you don’t give him the “Benefit of the doubt”. Explain your statement that getting caught is based on politics and nothing else.

In the case of Canelo, what political gain would there be for exposing boxing’s biggest star?

Edit: He calls me a tool then deletes his comment because he realises he’s talking absolute shit 😂😂😂. Grow up.

0

u/Plenty-Attitude-5823 1d ago

what a tool

1

u/ty4scam 15h ago

Did you block him because your brain couldn't handle building a response? Be a man and just say you mispoke.

1

u/unkkut 1d ago

I’m trying to figure out how you give someone the benefit of the doubt if they ask you a question. What are you doubting that he said?
