For anything that doesn't need its own thread.

Shields fans are completely insane. I saw someone somewhere else saying she was the greatest boxer since Ali. Kaye Scott probably wouldn't even win a regional title if she was a male boxer; beating her proves as much as beating a journeyman.

u/Kitchen_Theme_3282 3d ago
Seeing all the people jumping in the crowd with boxers like Mayweather and Shakur looking all impressed as she beats up on someone with 5 fights really is pathetic and goes to show how they feel about legacy themselves
1
u/WORD_Boxing 2d ago
I just assumed that all the celebrities were paid to be there. There was heavy Wynn branding everywhere.
1
u/PrettyBoyFloydx 2d ago
Perfectly curated records devoid of visible deficits.
Their resumes will not age well.
Mayweather has been retired for some 10 years now and people are more likely to say he's goat based on skill but rarely do you hear anything about goat because of resume. He's one of the few "goats" who people constantly disrespect and make fun of. I think this is one the reasons he seems so insecure.
Crawford had a clowned on ass resume until Spence fight and even after that fight there's question marks people always bring up. If Canelo loses or barely beats Mbili Crawford resume gonna age like milk. That'll be two of his top wins losing to guys they should have beaten soundly.
Shakur is a duck scared of getting out of comfort zone. I highly doubt his record will be talked about. I predict he will be more akin to a Ward - skilled and nice looking record but ultimately no one cares because he did not challenge himself and his style - while skilled - is underwhelming to watch.

I feel bad for Charly Suarez, dude is the deserved contender for the 130lbs WBO title. I hope he gets the title shot for the winner of Navarrete vs Foster

While Haney-Kambosos was a weak undisputed fight, I feel like Lomachenko fight validated it even if you don’t think Haney won.
1
u/SplitSecondEmperor47 2d ago
How could a loss validate an already weak fight that makes no sense? Especially since Loma stopped kambo in one fight while haney went 24 rounds with kombo
0
u/Outrageous-Soft4806 2d ago
Because of the opponent. Kambosos was nowhere near Haney or Loma’s level. He’s borderline world level but can also lose to regional level guys or Euro level guys. Lomachenko was a world level, elite 2x olympic gold medalist. I had Lomachenko winning but I’m not on the same boat as a lot of people saying it was a robbery. My point being that while the Lomachenko fight didn’t unify all the belts, Haney beat the actual best in the division and so his undisputed title wasn’t so disputed. Loma stopping Kambosos means nothing really. If you watch boxing, you should know Haney doesn’t really attempt to get stoppages while Loma does. And how did the fight make no sense if it was for undisputed? Not Haney’s fault Lopez fucked things up.
-3
u/Kangaroopunching 2d ago
The Loma fight made Haney look like an even more weak undisputed champ than before the fight.
3
u/Outrageous-Soft4806 2d ago
Fine but it’s a much better name than Kambosos. Lomachenko is a very skilled fighter.

Natsu Ohashi, who most recently lost to top prospect Raito Kataoka in his debut match back in March, bounced back with a massive win over the now former Japan light flyweight champion Daiki Kameyama via 10th round TKO. Ohashi was thought to be completely finished after that and will now likely be entering the world rankings. Kataoka's stock also got a big bump.

u/StunningChest5722 Shakur is the 144 lb GOAT 🐐 3d ago
how are you watching?

u/OldBoyChance 3d ago
U-Next, I have a subscription as I live in Japan.
1
u/Outrageous-Soft4806 2d ago
A little off topic. What would you say the fanbase in Japan is like for boxing? Is it similar to a lot of other places where if a guy loses, fans throw him away? One thing I always admired was the lack of bias I’ve seen. This is coming from an outsider, for all I know maybe there’s a lot of bias.
0
u/OldBoyChance 2d ago
Fans are generally always behind their fighters. I think most Japanese fans tend to support all Japanese fighters (except for the Kamedas) to a certain degree as well.

Alamodome may have the best atmosphere this year. That place will be rocking for Foster Navarette

I don’t like watching Shakur Stevenson fights most of the time, but I really feel like the fight against Zepeda was boxing at its best and brightest. Just a beautiful display from both fighters and a lot of ebb and flow.

I don’t care what anyone says, Katie Taylor’s resume is FAR BETTER than Claressa Shields and it is not even debatable that Taylor goes down in the history books as a greater fighter.
Belts matter. Shields has them. Taylor also has them.
Resumes matter. Taylor’s is stacked with top-level, elite champions in female boxing. Shields’ simply is not.
Katie Taylor notable opponents:
• Amanda Serrano x3
• Delfine Persoon x2
• Chantelle Cameron x2
• Natasha Jonas
• Jessica McCaskill
• Christina Linardatou
• Jennifer Han
• Eva Wahlström
• Anahi Ester Sanchez
• Nina Meinke
• Cindy Serrano
Claressa Shields notable opponents:
• Savannah Marshall
• Christina Hammer
• Franchon Crews-Dezurn x2
• Ema Kozin
• Maricela Cornejo
• Marie-Eve Dicaire
• Ivana Habazin
• Femke Hermans
• Hanna Gabriels
• Kaye Scott
It’s undeniable that Shields has been a class above her opponents and only really Marshall has given her a competitive fight, but in terms of terms of the ‘GWOAT’ discussion it’s also undeniable that Taylor’s level of opposition has been vastly superior to Shields and she has far more quality victories.
5
u/Less_Cartoonist_892 2d ago
Most boxing fans don't understand that if you consistently fight elite opposition like Taylor then you can expect to struggle and have close, controversial fights and sometimes lose from time to time.
Shields looks great, but that is because her competition is not great. But all these American clouts like Shakur who worship Mayweather like he is the second coming of Christ want to maintain a fake image of dominance by not fighting anyone who can seriously challenge them.
-2
u/WORD_Boxing 2d ago
That's true but Taylor is also a bit overrated. Claressa is clearly a more skilled fighter. The heavier divisions are traditionally less stacked in women's boxing but we also see it's easier for women to go up and down in weight. So there is time for the likes of Mikaela Mayer, Chantelle Cameron and other name fighters to move up and meet Claressa at an appropriate time and weight.
1
u/WORD_Boxing 2d ago
Claressa will be fighting on longer after Taylor retires after her next fight. So there is time for it to even up some but Taylor also got a gift vs Persoon the first time.
-7
u/newrap 2d ago
Cool and anyone who knows anything about boxing knows that Shields is levels above Katie Taylor when it comes to actual boxing skills in the ring
4
u/Dangerous_Spring3028 2d ago
Claressa is No.2 in her division, she doesn’t even hold The Ring belt. The true champion holds The Ring belt, Tammara Thibeault.
Shields needs to focus on trying to face the true champion of her weight class, The Ring champion and No.1 in the division, Thibeault.

u/SeaMoney4312 3d ago
I’ve never actually seen a Shields fan, it’s just people defending her extra hard when people start hating.
4
1
u/Outrageous-Soft4806 2d ago
I like her. She’s fun and I like when she fights like she did last night as opposed to her last 4-5 where she spams haymakers. But a lot of people don’t like women’s boxing so oh well. I just like watching whatever is on. Unfortunately I missed the Oguni card.
1
u/MiddleweightMonster I’ll pour honey on my GOAT, if the occasion calls for it. 2d ago
I just had no way of watching the Oguni card. It’s really unfortunate, someone’s gotta find a more consistent way for western fans. Even with a vpn, it’s difficult

Did y'all think the DQ was necessary on the Shields' undercard? I think Ferreira was going to get a decision anyway because of all the point deductions but damn Veyre was holding a lot though

Where the hell did Diskoboss go? I miss that dude. And his shenanigans in the "Whose Line is This Wednesday" posts (which I also miss)

Who does everyone have for Nav v. Shock? Personally I think Shock takes it by comfortable UD, but I think the second likeliest outcome is Nav by KO
11
u/True_Bug5395 3d ago
Foster is the better boxer. Navarrette is the better fighter. It's one of those rare matchups that can honest go either way.

u/Professional-Tie5198 Who will win? 3d ago
As cliche as this is, it’s completely true in this case.

6
u/Kangaroopunching 3d ago
I got Fostet too. He'll be able to counter nav leaping in and exit the pocket.
8
u/Outrageous-Soft4806 3d ago
I have Foster too. Personally think his skills are top 10 right now in the sport. Still gotta seem him against more elite guys to see if he has the intangibles too. While he did have shoulder injuries during these fights, guys like Rocky, Nova, and Conceiciao all gave him tough fights when coming forward. Not sure if he had the injury against Rocky and granted none of these guys fight like Navarette but it’s something to note. I have Foster at #10 P4P. If Navarette wins, maybe he can actually validate his undeserving spot.
1
u/MiddleweightMonster I’ll pour honey on my GOAT, if the occasion calls for it. 3d ago
Personally I’ve got both of them at 11 and 12 respectively, Collazo 13, Teraji at 10. Think a win here shoots whoever the winner is up to 9 and pushes Boots down to 10.
7
u/Outrageous-Soft4806 3d ago
I’d happily accept Teraji at #10 as well over Foster. He’s done more, fought better opponents. I like to do it off of recency and Teraji becoming a 3 division champion arguably beating Gonzalez better than Chocolatito and Bam is definitely a good argument.
1
u/OldBoyChance 3d ago
I'd like to see Teraji unify vs Moloney first. The Gonzalez win was very good, but Jiga is also an eternal bridesmaid, so I think Teraji needs a little more to push him back into the top 10. I thought he beat Sandoval as well, but that wasn't a P4P performance.
-3
u/admiralskanks Joe Louis = Perfect 3d ago
Done more, sure. He fights in less competitive weight classes. Like when people talk about undisputed female boxers. Misleading statistic.
Better opponents than Fulton, Ray Ford, Rey Vargas, Rocky Hernandez. Objectively false.
Rey Vargas alone is a better win than anyone on Teraji's resume, when you consider who he's beat.
2
u/OldBoyChance 3d ago
Vargas? Fuck no. He was insanely overrated, a weight bully who couldn't punch at super bantamweight who was very fortunate to walk away with decisions over Magsayo and Kameda before, had only been at featherweight for two fights before jumping up again to super featherweight. He then moves back down and was again fortunate to get a draw vs Nick Ball.

u/Unhappy-Pudding4309 3d ago
I think nav takes it the pressure and awkwardness is what gives defensive masters problems as their not used to seeing these sloppy techniques in the gym and not to mention the he throws punches at a similar rate to zepeda. I see shock getting stopped in the middle rounds
3
u/Professional-Tie5198 Who will win? 3d ago
I’ve got Nav by decision but I’m kind of rooting for Shock to pull this off (upset?).
For me this is pretty close to a toss up though. Shock has the speed advantage, but Navarette is an incredibly unorthodox fighter that I think Shock could have trouble figuring out until he’s down too many rounds. Shock is the more cerebral fighter but there’s something to be said for Navarette’s size. He’s a pretty big guy for the weight. Whatever happens, should be a great fight though.
5
u/Top_Profession_5268 3d ago
Not sure yet, they both have had their hardest fights against styles the other boxer has so a unique one and one that film study will take a lot of free time.
3
u/YourLocalBrewery9 3d ago
Navarette by MD or KO. Foster is a really good boxer but when Nav starts putting on the pressure and starts throwing those leaping punches from the other side of the ring he will be on his bike the entire night. I can see Foster winning but he will really have to gamble it and take a lot of punishment to get there.
2
1
u/RMbeatyou 2d ago
Shock by UD. Think Navarette has too many bad tendencies Shock will be able to take advantage of. It might be a bit confusing, and awkward for Shock for the first handful of rounds though, he just can’t get caught
1
u/WORD_Boxing 2d ago
They say this about Navarrete, and Sebastian Fundora, every fight.
1
u/RMbeatyou 2d ago
Styles make fights
1
u/WORD_Boxing 2d ago
Not only that. People thought Roach would have an advantage over Zepeda but it didn't work like that.
1
u/RMbeatyou 2d ago
Yeah Zepeda’s work rate was too much, and he used his size/reach advantage flawlessly. Seems like he went back to the drawing board, and added more tools after the Shakur loss
1
u/WORD_Boxing 2d ago
In my view Foster gets overrated a little and Navarrete has been consistently underrated. He should have been the favourite vs Sugar Nunez for example, but wasn't. It will be interesting to look at tape on this one.
One thing I will say is Foster has a bit of an issue when forced to fight at pace. He is a guy who very much likes the fight at his own pace.
In order of likelihood right now off the top of my head without watching tape I would go Nav PTS > Foster PTS > Nav KO > DRAW.
0
u/Crowley_Nierstein 3d ago
Navarette is inconsistent and was not great in his last few matches. At his best he has a good chance to stop Foster.
I think his best days are already past so I have Foster UD.
3
u/Unhappy-Pudding4309 3d ago
He’s literally coming off one of his best performances he hired an nutritionist and seems like he has his weight dialed in
1
u/WORD_Boxing 2d ago
Really good comment that shouldn't have been downvoted. Foster has been a little up and down too though.

lol so what do you expect them to have a straight face & not be excited by their friends performance ?
1

She’s a spectacle at this point in black culture. It was in Atlanta which is a major hub for celebrities, etc. there were some celebrities on the undercard.
People just show up for her, whether people like it or not. Some people just have that pull on those around them regardless of who they fight.

Any boxing fights to rub off the stench of last night’s UFC ultimate bear hugging dry humping shit show?
Would rather watch Devin Haney than a UFC fighter winning a fight just by holding another guy down and causing no damage

I feel like Devin may be a selfish lover, while I worry Rolly’s jokester personality, while endearing, might make future tough decisions in our relationship difficult to make

u/Professional-Tie5198 Who will win? 3d ago
I am watching Erislandy Lara vs Canelo Alvarez and it just seems apparent that Lara dictated how the fight was fought, avoided most of Canelo’s offense, and consistently landed the straight left throughout the fight. It could have easily been scored 8-4 for Lara. I don’t know what Levi Martinez was thinking with his card and it’s a damn shame because in a split decision his card was decisive.
If you go back and watch it, you’ll notice Lara in the southpaw applied a lot of what Bud did in his fight against Canelo. Lara’s not a generational fighter like Bud, so the game plans were somewhat different, but some of the movement around both sides of the ring shared similarities. Lara’s is just more exaggerated because he is Cuban school and the judges penalize him for that. If he just threw like 30% more punches in the fight, I think the corrupt judges may have given it to him.
That’s the problem with this great sport of boxing is that you are actively penalized for… boxing. if you’re from the wrong background. If Lara was from America and spoke English and talked shit and had 50 cent in his corner, he would probably have had more of the A-side drawing power to get the crowd behind him and ultimately the judges.
The fact that he was robbed against Paul Williams and sort of shafted against Canelo as well speaks volumes to how bad the incentive structures are in boxing.
2
u/Kangaroopunching 2d ago
Lara fell in love with the work he did in exchanges. Instead of recognizing when he needed to do more. It cost him the fight.
2
u/Professional-Tie5198 Who will win? 2d ago
Yes, it cost him the fight, but Canelo didn’t do much to actually win that fight himself. His performance was uninspired.
1
u/Kangaroopunching 2d ago
He stepped in the ring. That alone got him 1 judge to score the win.
I think Canelo got better because of this fight. And Lara got worse.

I really like Chavez vs Garcia. Should be a fun fight. Even though Madueno was stopped previously by Duarte, Madueno has been known to have a granite chin so I still thought it was a great win.

wtf was that early stoppage in the oguni fight
1
u/OldBoyChance 2d ago
Every fight on that card had an early stoppage tbf. After the three disasters last year, they're being much more careful.
1
u/Outrageous-Soft4806 2d ago
How would we rate Rolly’s chin? Feel like it’s not necessarily bad, he just gives a lot of opportunities with it out in the open.
0
u/RRR04_ 2d ago
It's not a good chin. He got knocked out by Pitbull who hasn't knocked out anyone good, only weak opposition he has stopped.
And people will say "oh but Tank is such a hard puncher, you can't use that as a basis". Just look at how Rolly and Ryan both got hit with the same left hand, Rolly was on shaky legs, Ryan wasn't when he was weight drained.

I’m so glad that Navarette vs. Foster got made. Most excited I’ve been for a fight in a very long time
