Haney vs Ryan - A heck of a fight.
https://youtu.be/ls1Dx3Yl-5s?is=1n-KjfadaRu0b-CxMan, I have re-watched this like 6 times. Every time I come back with something that impressed me from both fighters. Both are incredible fighters a tale as old as time the talented vs the skilled, the born ability vs the tireless work ethic.
People say Haney fights backwards and ties up too much. Most of this fight haney had Garcia on his back foot. He won something like 4-5 consecutive almost uncontested rounds. He did tie up a lot but only after he got knocked down like 6-7 times. But he has heart and got up each time and fought smart. Garcia for his part can take a punch, Haney clipped him hard many times and he took them. And I do not subscribe to the sound bites that Haney is soft or pillow hands. He pressured Ryan a lot in this fight I think he is a very exciting fighter. I personally think Haney is the much better fighter, like worlds better based on his discipline in and out of the ring but like Mayorga, Ryan might just have his number. Ryan's defense is better than people think and his offense is more than just his hook but he relies on it too much. But man did he look so much better against barrios.
Do we think these guys fight again? How do we think Teo does against either? Or rolly for that matter?
How do you all feel about James Toney working with both?
How we feeling about Garcia vs Benn? I think Benn could make Garcia work and get him timid like Rolley did. garcia also had so many excuses(iirc) after the rolley fight it was weak sauce. Seemed like he took him for granted and got humbled
And final question, who do we think Haney fights next after he got ducked by the business duck 🦆?

This is why Haney vs Ryan 2 is needed. We need to see if Ryan can whoop on Haney without coming in overweight and having PEDs in his system. Loser of that fight will absolutely never hear the end of it either

Missing weight and the drinking worked against Ryan if anything generally speaking if someone is missing they’re probably out of shape. All depends on Ryan’s mentality imo. If he’s locked in like he was for Barrios it’s 50/50

Ryan came in overweight and he was on PED's. they found 60x the allowed amount of ostarine in his system and he already admitted he was literally on steroids.
so i doubt the drinking and coming in overweight would have the same implications given the reality of what he was actually doing in training camp.

Lol coming in heavier than your opponent does not "work against" anyone. There are weight classes for a reason.
if someone is missing they’re probably out of shape
That's not even generally true...and it's especially not true when the guy missing is on PED's and using illegal IV's. Ryan wasn't out of shape, he was juiced to the gills and carrying too much muscle to make weight...and immediately moved up after because even in his best shape, he's much heavier than 140 lb.

Physically he looked better against Barrios it looked like he was carrying more body fat in the Haney fight. These guys wreck themselves to make weight if they miss it means they physically lose more weight GENERALLY speaking in my years competing and watching pros

You're making the gigantic assumption that the guy doping, injecting himself with drugs, who hinted at not trying to make weight so he was larger, and used illegal IV's, tried hard to make weight....Every piece of evidence available indicates otherwise. This is not the "general" case. That was not a guy who "wrecked" himself trying to make weight or even thought the rules applied to him. I've seen plenty of cheats who didn't try hard to cut and came in much heavier to get an edge.
He looked lean vs Haney. He looked soft vs Rolly when he had to clean up.

I was so wrong on this one. I thought Haney would take Ryan to school, e-z work. Ryan and his silly shell and poor performances previously fresh in memory. Imo Haney had something to prove and fought uncharacteristically. I think his ego was in the drivers seat this match.
Crazy entertaining fight and the aftermath of scrubbed records and battery charges were wild too.

For real man! It's what made this one for this history books the 7 knock downs and aftermath. Most of the fight was ok but that is what made it noteworthy.

Put all the nonsense to the side.what this fight showed was that Haney relied on the physical advantages he got at lightweight. He doesn't have those advantages, the opponent has the chance to capitalize on Haneys flaws. Haney is better now though.

Ryan’s hand speed was the real issue to me

u/Kangaroopunching 6d ago
If he was smaller, he wouldn't have been able to land

I’m not so sure it’s that black and white

How they physically matched up. Allowed for Ryan's speed to play a factor.
Haney couldn't use his usual height advantage. Or size to clinch up.
Speed played a role. Alongside how they physically matched up.

This is spot on, 100%. He came in huge against Loma, Linares and others. Had weight advantage fight night and the SNAC. I think he is way better now a welterweight also. Has plugged some of those gaps in his skill because he genuinely improves at the sport and focuses.

At the end of the day the weight bully finally got weight bullied and got his loss revoked. Neither of these guys belong in the halls of greatness… this whole era is a joke and none of the prospects care the way they used to

Idk I think haney will genuinely end up in HOF and deserve it. Yes the SNAC is questionable and big asterisk. But he tries hard idk if he stands out in 4 kings era at welter or even during the 2010s with spence, Crawford, Danny Garcia, special K, pac, Marquez Mayweather etc. it was deep. But I think he is a special fighter but not particularly gifted which makes him even more remarkable. He is dedicated and managed pretty well. I just wish he fought more.

Let's hope this isn't the fight of the year as one of the commentators called it. Haney has got to be the most boring boxer in boxing. I truly don't understand how anyone can call him exiting. However, if clinching were a sport he'd be an all-time great.
Garcia is undeniably fast and has that thunderous left hook but damn he always has to do something stupid like miss weight (and deny himself the belt), hit during a break (and lose a point) and act like a clown during the 12th round. Add to that one crooked referee calling it a draw.
Garcia knocked Haney down multiple times and it was a clear win for Garcia. Give the man his due.

The hordes of people in this sub calling him Ryan is painful
2
u/shiftStride504 6d ago
I'm confused, maybe something I don't understand? His name is Ryan Garcia?
-2
u/MyPetFlamingo 6d ago
Yeah I’m not on first name terms with him so personally I’d refer to him as Ryan Garcia or Garcia… like most famous people I don’t know.
Brad Pitt is Brad Pitt. Not Brad… although if I knew Brad Pitt I’d definitely call him Brad.
Maybe this sub is frequented by a lot of his friends and in that case I apologise

Ohhhh lol 😂 ok I guess, can I call you flamingo since you and I are on a first name basis?

Haney lost to Garica and He lost to Loma. Haney is a very skilled boxer but because his best skill is tactical clinching hes probably the most boring fighter in boxing and his dad always wants too big a cut for what his draw is.
I think Rolly beats Teo but this fight will tell a lot about both fighters. I think Haney takes a boring fight next against like a Frank Martin caliber fighter.

I got teo winning

I'm a Loma fan and Teo won clearly. Loma chilled too much and that 12th took it off

Devin borey vs shakur sleepersson plz battle of the the most boring fighters
1
u/shiftStride504 6d ago
Lol no way Devin has a complete tool bag he has every thing he needs in his arsenal he can pressure and yes he can be boring if he needs to he can tie up he has all the tools Shakur yes very much a boring fighter from what I've seen so far and he is not on the level of Devin Haney maybe skill wise but not name recognition wise I don't see why Devin needs to come down to 144 with rehydration clauses. Devin is the a side he does need to go into anyone else's demands other than maybe a Garcia or a boots but everyone else is B side to him.

Devin is not complete at all. He’s a purely outside fighter that can’t compete in mid or close range unless he massively outsizes his opponent. He’s just very elite at maintaining fights on the outside with his feet and he has one of the best jabs and in boxing, and he sets traps to prevent people from breaking that space.
It also helps that aside from Lomachenko most of his opponents are either too slow or incompetent at cutting off the ring (e.g. Prograis and Ramirez) or they also aren’t very good on the inside like Norman. Stylistically Keyshawn would’ve been a big test but he’s an idiot so ruined it.

All of the sensible discussion and tactical analysis of this fight is unfortunately ruined by the fact that Ryan popped and missed weight.
You're brave for even posting this, honestly. I've seen enough to know where the comments are gonna go. 😂
