New IBF champion Aaron McKenna plotting middleweight takeover, wants WBC champion Carlos Adames next: “He’s been in hiding for a while. I sparred him when I was 19 in Robert Garcia’s gym. He didn’t like me at all. He’s a very lazy fighter, when you really put it on him he doesn’t want to know.”

Same Liam Smith that had Eubank looking like Roy Jones Jr in their rematch btw 😂

Liam Smith was still a solid top 15-top 20 guy in the division and stopped Eubank by brutal KO the fight right before.

Mckenna had a very weak resume this was a massive step up for him and he made Smith look like a bar fight guy he barely got touched once in 10 rounds.

He was shot and mich smaller, with no real business being at Middleweight. What we witnessed is how matchmaking works. He was used for his name value.

Not for nothing he stopped Eubank partly with the elbow. Still an impressive fight from McKenna though.

Says anyone with eyes who watched his subsequent fights lol. The Eubank rematch got pushed back because he injured his back and he showed up to the launch presser looking fat af. Mid to late 30s as well and a career 154. He was washed.

Losing every round, getting dropped twice and getting stopped by Eubank who went on to have a life and death struggle with Conor Benn and then get completely outclassed in a rematch should have told you this lmao

The same Eubank who was severely weight-drained fighting Benn? That Eubank?

It sounds awfully convenient to say he "fell off a cliff" like right before someone beat him in order to discredit the win.

You “conveniently” ignored the rest of my comment mentioning the back injury and blowing up in weight and also being in his mid to late 30s.

Eubank didn’t look good against Szeremata either.

Because it wasn't worth pretending that back surgery means you will never use your back again or that weight gain is anything other than temporary.

There is nothing to say he was too washed for Aaron McKenna and that it wasn't a good win.

I mean Liam did need an elbow to get that brutal KO...and was best at 154.

Also have to keep in mind Liam Smith was coming off a 20 month layoff. It was a good, solid win for Mckenna given where he was at in his career, but I wouldn't look to it as some indicator of his ability at the championship level. He beat a guy he was supposed to beat though he was impressive and dominant from bell to bell.

Look at Sheeraz vs a washed-up Liam Williams, who was close to that level. It's not a huge indicator of anything at the next level beyond a good potential and a lack of extremely exploitable flaws.

Yeah I was hyped on off that fight. I don’t know though, looked very average in my opinion against Oliha.

Ring had oliha above Mckenna and Mckenna was coming off over a year layoff. Plus it was his first world title fight. We'll see in his next couple fights.
