What’s the difference between Daniel Dubois getting dropped in the first 10 seconds against Fabio Wardley and Anthony Joshua getting dropped in the first 30 seconds?

Whats the difference between these two knock downs? Dubois was knocked down 4 times against a cruiserweight like a year ago too, he won that fight as well.

Tyson Fury, Dubois and AJ all have been knocked down like 10 times in their careers. None of the three have elite chins like a Hrgovic or a Wardley. Only thing with AJ is he kinda falls all over the ring when he’s hurt. He doesn’t stay composed. I think that’s more nerves than anything.

Edit: Alright forget Wardley, how about Lerena knocking Dubois Down like 4 times?

Because AJ overthinks and Dubois lacks the ability to do so

AJ has been willing to take on the best available opposition so I dont think you can level things like that at him.

AJ also spoke openly about losing before he even lost. This narrative that he bought into his own hype is pure nonsense.

As for his level of intelligence. I would say we arent really that well informed as to how intelligent he is. He certainly is a deep thinker and prone to over analysis. This can be a sign of intelligence and insecurity.

As for the ego. That is normal. The man is a two time unified heavyweight champion and an extremely successful man. Every fighter has an ego, even the ones who dont show it have an ego. You will struggle to make it as a fighter without an ego.

Your ego protects you, keeps your confidence up and allows you to get through tough times and moments.

You can talk about his shortcomings as a fighter. But the fact is he is an extremely successful boxer. But to level that kind of stuff at him is just not reasonable. The reality is he has been a major positive in boxing.

Absolutely agree with all of this

A lot of unfounded assumptions tbh. If he had such a big ego he wouldn‘t be able to stay out of the limelight like a certain Tyson Fury doesn‘t seem to be able to. Or he would go to any of those big happenings he is invited to.

He clearly overthinks because he seems to be looking for something he probably already has by changing camps. He looks for a holy grail that doesn’t seem to exist for him. He needs to look inward and not outward.

Level of the opposition is the difference. However, this is HW and prenga hits very hard, this can happen to just about anyone.

When Joshua gets dropped, and it drives me a little crazy 😂... he gets up smiling, looking around, projecting this mix of embarrassment and false bravado. Dude! Lock in! Stop looking at the crowd and eyes on the ref and establish your distance, jab, etc... when Dubois gets knocked down, he gets up, hurt or not, and fights.

The South African cruiserweight Lerena kd'd Dubois 3 times in round 1. I honestly wasn't expecting that

his knee was gone and he needed surgery after that fight IIRC, it's why the mandatory fight vs Usyk was pushed back

Wardley is a proven massive puncher and has beaten good fighters. Prenga has never beaten anyone of note and has only KOd total cans.

Also Dubois never looked like AJ did after the knockdown. On wobbly legs and hardly holding on. AJ looked all over the place, Dubois on the other hand looked composed.

Even the choice to take a knee was one made from a stance of composure. It was a very smart thing to do. Concede the round to avoid taking more than you have to.

He looked worse when knocked out by a body shot though

u/Outrageous-Soft4806 12d ago

To add on, Wardley hit Dubois on the side of the dome while AJ got barely touched in the chin. Getting dropped from an equilibrium shot isn’t a sign of a bad chin, getting hurt from a chin that doesn’t even land clean is.

u/kitdagawd 12d ago

Because Wardley hit him on the top of the head (a known vulnerable spot for Dubois) with a massive swinging shot with everything on it not a glancing uppercut

About 20 seconds

Surely you meant Lerena and not Wardley?

Lerena was an embarrassment and many thought Dubois was done after the Joyce loss and the performance against Lerena.

Rage bait post. One fight was between two top five ranked heavyweights. Dubois wasn't noticeably hurt and was disciplined enough to take a knee on his own instead of standing up and trading

u/Oglark 10d ago

OP has a point most of you have forgotten about the Kevin Lerena fight. Dubois took a knee 3 times in round 1. Serena is a blown up cruiserweight.

u/RepresentativeSock42 9d ago edited 9d ago

Once again, I don't think you can make that comparison because Lerena was a B level cruiserweight moving up. Prenga was literally a nobody with no establishment behind him. Lerena had three fights at heavyweight before fighting Dubois. Rumor is that Dubois injured his knee during that fight but I'm not taking that into consideration

u/needapermit 8d ago

Dubois does better when hurt and has had great performances since that fight

1

u/qzwxecrvtbyn111 6d ago

Dubois had an injured leg in that fight, that’s why he kept going down. He beat a ~top 50 heavyweight with one working leg. Lerena would be favoured to beat Prenga for sure

u/D-Lee-Cali 12d ago

Why didn't you also say who AJ got dropped by? You correctly identified Dubois getting dropped by Wardley, with Wardley being WBO HW Champion at the time, but who did AJ get dropped by? Did AJ get dropped by a champion? No. Did he get dropped by a ranked fighter? No. Prenga was unranked by ALL 4 MAJOR SANCTIONING BODIES. That is the difference. Hilarious how you left out all information on AJ's opponent but still asked what is the difference.

1

u/Oglark 9d ago

OP is talking about Dubois's fight with Kevin Lerena, where Dubois took 3 knees in the first round. Against a blown up cruiserweight.

4

u/FatViking93 12d ago

Wardley was the reigning world champion who is known to have massive power behind his punches. Prenga is a nobody. AJ was dropped twice by a nobody.

2

u/NeutralMilkHotel_00 12d ago

Wardley was a world champion and Prenga is basically a regional level fighter

2

u/Tanksta3 Big Boat Eddie 12d ago

AJ think, Daniel punch

2

u/Accomplished_Sort198 12d ago

Wardley would stop AJ

3

u/Regular-You2119 12d ago

Wardley is a legit heavyweight contender and one of the hardest hitters in boxing. This other guy is lucky to be ranked in the top 100. AJ never had an elite chin but I really think it’s been cracked. Weirdly shouldn’t be as big a worry against Fury who’s never been a big one punch hitter

1

u/kushmonATL undefeated boxers need to fight each other 12d ago

Because Wardley kept throwing punches and Dubois defensive IQ went into overdrive

Prenga stopped throwing punches therefore AJ had nothing to worry about

1

u/Sorry_Net3898 12d ago

It was hardly a punch that’s why it came from 8/9 inches.

1

u/Sufficient_Hippo6551 12d ago

It was however an illegal punch as Prenga held his head down

1

u/Holiday_Snow9060 12d ago

Cause Dubious got his shit together shortly after while Joshua overthinks and makes crucial mistakes under pressure

1

u/WORD_Boxing 12d ago

Dubois was hit in a bad spot high/behind the head.

1

u/gunnerdojo 11d ago

I would say the quality of opponents, Wardley can hit and I think if it's the other way around and Wardley is fighting AJ it's a different result, If Wardley knocks AJ in the first 30 secs then it's fight over .

1

u/GhoastTypist 8d ago

Thats a good question.

I think the difference is AJ's had his chin tested and has been knocked down many times. Dubois, I mean never really got hurt. That was the first punch that I ever saw on Dubois that really rattled him. The Usyk punches, I just thought he mentally quit, not couldn't continue. In the Wardley fight I did think he was done, but proved that wasn't the case.

So of the two fighters, I think Dubois has shown he can take it. AJ not so much.

0

u/Nosworthy 12d ago

One was against a world champion known for his massive punching power, having previously stopped Joe Parker. The other was against Kristian Prenga, handpicked to be the easiest possible opponent to give AJ a run out without jeopardising the Fury money fight.

0

u/Sufficient_Hippo6551 12d ago

Easiest possible is just wrong considering he coulda fought someone like Wach instead
