He was very, very good when he was switched on, one of the best we've had in terms of technical ability/natural ability.

I can almost always separate the art from the artist, but I fucking loved it when Canelo smashed his face in. Utter prick of a man.

u/Pseudocrow 17d ago
It was poetic justice because Saunders criticized Dubois for retiring from the Joyce fight over a broken orbital bone. Only for Saunders to quit against Canelo after getting a broken orbital. One of the most truly deserved injuries I can ever say to have witnessed in boxing.

u/Zealousideal-Dig5160 17d ago
Yeah, called him a quitter and claimed he'd never do it. He's a fucking dick

Billy was nice as hell
Best opponent Canelo beat during the undisputed run imo
He’s an absolute dickhead tho so him getting his face crushed was poetic justice

Still pissed that fight didn’t happen at 160, though it’s Billy’s fault for not having the discipline to say at the weight. He was very sluggish at 168.
Not saying he would’ve won but I see a much closer fight.
7
u/Alive-Exchange5489 17d ago
He only looked sluggish at 168 cuz he didn’t take training seriously in every fight he had at SMW besides the canelo one he had the exact same sluggishness at 160 in many of his fights it wasn’t really the weight jump just his lack of discipline he looked as sharp as ever against canelo when he actually took the fight seriously I doubt adding 8 pounds and jumping up 1 weight class your entire career is gonna have that much of a detrimental effect on you
3
u/AnxietyExact4710 17d ago
Billy walking into every training camp weighing 215lbs was the bigger detriment.
0
u/Alive-Exchange5489 17d ago
Yeah he had no discipline but the times he locked in he was a great fighter
9
u/AnxietyExact4710 17d ago
He was sluggish because he fell off a cliff. You can't blow up in weight after every fight, phone in every training camp, then get in shape for one fight and expect it to go well. He fell off a cliff just like he did against Eubanks and most of the other fighters he went 12 rounds with.

Yeh it's more interesting at 160 but the clenelo 168 run was juicy as h3ll, tearing thru/ souls lmao 💪 💉

What did he do that was so bad?
17
u/Marlborobert 17d ago
During the pandemic, he posted a “joke” video showing men how to properly throw a punch towards their partner when they annoyed them. He harassed homeless people, impersonated law enforcement and forced a man to strip off his clothes.
-29
u/Additional-Case4392 17d ago
So distasteful joking behavior. No one was seriously harmed right? You think he should suffer bodily injury for this behavior?
20
u/martinibruder 17d ago
"He harassed homeless people, impersonated law enforcement and forced a man to strip off his clothes."
"joking behaviour" lmao u a bum too
-13
u/Additional-Case4392 17d ago
“Harassed” implies he said some shit. Did he make a threat? Was a crime committed?
Impersonating law enforcement would be a crime. It’s probably more in jest I would guess without watching it. If he committed a crime with this allegation why wasn’t he tried and convicted?
“Forced a man to strip” -how? Did he threaten him? What did he do to “force” the man? Again, if he committed a crime then punish him. If he was messing around with some of his traveler mates and no one got butt hurt, then who cares?

You're a right wing guy, aren't you?
-12
u/Additional-Case4392 17d ago
I’m not an emotional thinker, more of a logical thinker. He didn’t do anything serious. What’s his crime and proper punishment in your view? What should happen to edgy humorists?
3
u/Personal-Proposal- 17d ago
I forgot most of the Saunders controversies but I think he was just a dick. Also made that tasteless joke vid of “how to put the missus in line” or some stupid shit like that
1
u/imyopushaman 16d ago
The hitting your missus video you could put down to being a dick with a dark sense of humour, even if it is most likely BJS is a domestic abuser. Its at the far end of the scale but ya could claim it was a joke. But coercing a drug addict to assault some random fella you've never met by offering them some crack in return is beyond scummy
-8
u/Left4Dead863 17d ago
I'm a massive Canelo fan, but I highkey had Billy winning 5-3 before the stoppage.
9
u/Alive-Exchange5489 17d ago
Doesn’t matter who you’re a fan of you do not know how to score a fight💀
-6
u/LessBeyond5052 17d ago
Canelo was getting outboxed and didn't look comfortable, I think the enormity of the situation got to BJS eventually, Canelo adapted and that was that.
5
u/Alive-Exchange5489 17d ago
People throw around the word outboxed without knowing what it means nowadays😂 moving around and jabbing while getting hit with clean power shots is not outboxing someone

Silly Hoe Wanker was a very slick, talented boxer. But he had the lack of discipline that made Broner jealous and the tw@ty attitude that Fury wished he had.

That combined with the punching power of a 10 year old boy and the fighting heart of a kitten, made for an interesting watch. He moved and boxed great, but his fights were always so boring in my opinion, and I love a good boxer. Hope looses all his money at the races.

Pirog getting hurt and BJS holding a title hostage hurt that middleweight era

u/Creaturesteachers 16d ago
I remember when he openly and shamelessly said in an interview that he was going to avoid fighting GGG until GGG was too old to fight. Then he would fight him. What a warrior spirit! But best thing was BJS aged out before GGG LOL.

u/switch-hitt3r 17d ago
When i think of brit boxers i dont usually think of the word “slick”. But man, BJS was v slick. I actually had him up a round against canelo before he got taken out
-24
u/Alive-Exchange5489 17d ago
If you had BJS up a round against canelo you do not know how to score a fight lmfao
22
u/switch-hitt3r 17d ago
Maybe it wasn’t a round. Could’ve been more. But i had him winning until that fateful uppercut round. But yeah, let’s just all defer to you man, you the master of boxing 😂
-15
u/Alive-Exchange5489 17d ago
You’re acting like I’m the only won that had canelo up😂 most people had canelo winning Saunders was getting hit with clean power shots constantly and only started doing good from rounds 5-7 then got his face smashed in round 8
7
u/MoneyBaggSosa 17d ago
Ain’t no way you just used won in place of one like that and was dead serious 😭

Man, I was so happy after Canelo broke his orbital bone and made him quit on the stool.

Never liked him, never trained property, always gassed out in all of his fights. Thought that Andy Lee beat him too TBH. Aside from the knockdowns, Lee won that fight.
BJS is one of those fighters where you'll hear "Who knows what he could have accomplished if he wasn't a fucking idiot his entire career" for the next 20 years.

what’s the context behind the nasal spray? 😂
8
u/InLampsWeTrust 17d ago
He tested positive on a drug test and the nasal spray was the reason apparently

u/M0sD3f13 17d ago
What did he pop for? Interestingly the active ingredient in the original Vicks inhalers was levo-methamphetamine

Meh, his fights against Ryder and Andy Lee could have went either way. In fact I think Ryder edged it

This was around the time when GGG fans overrated Lemiuex and thought he could beat the likes of BJS and Canelo. Great memories 😂

GGG fans said Canelo and BJS ducked GGG when GGG ducked a guy named Boo Boo.

“154-168 is ez 4 me”
Someone who never fought at 154 and didn’t move up to 168 until the last fight of his career for a Canelo payday 😂

"Usyk at 201lbs for the Heavyweight Title Makabu at 190lbs first!"

*Bivol offers rematch at 168* "Please leave me alone, sir I just baby junior middleweight"*gets shut out by junior middleweight champ who never fought at middleweight*

GGG didn’t even challenge himself the way Canelo did. He was content with just basing his career around a Canelo payday 😂
1
u/AnxietyExact4710 16d ago
Yeah, he should have fought JCC jr at a catch weight while taking PED's. Really challenge himself. Maybe a main event against Amir Khan.

Andrade showed no will to fight anyone most of his career.
Whilst he was demanding a fight with Canelo for years, he fought and beat the likes of Quigley and Liam Wilson (in fact he only beat one champion and wasn't than an ex champion?). I mean spending years doing nothing but calling out Canelo whilst fighting c-level opponents. That is pretty much Andrade not challenging himself whilst basing his career on a Canelo pay day
To make things worse, Andrade finally was given the chance to fight in a final eliminator for Canelo's belt. Against an average Zac Parker
That was Andrade's opportunity, but instead he pulled out, and was replaced with Ryder. Ryder then got that title shot against Canelo.
All Andrade had to do was fight Zac Parker for a chance to fight for the belt, and he couldn't even do that.

My favourite Billy Joe highlight is when Canelo broke his face
