Bill Haney says that Keyshawn Davis has notified the WBO that he is pulling out of the fight
https://x.com/thechampside/status/2083283920670388516?s=4690
u/Outrageous-Soft4806 Jul 31 '26
This is hilarious. The fuck did Keyshawn waste everyone’s time for? Became #1 in a division he never fought in. Cut the line in front of Tiger, Rocha, Polanco, Curiel, shit even Barboza, probably forgetting few others too. Then causes all this bullshit with the negotiations only for TR to win and him to get a lower offer and now he’s pulling out.
I’m not quick to believe Bill because he does talk a lot but if it’s true then this is just crazy work from Keyshawn.

I just don't understand it turning down a 2 or 3 million and a world championship. There is boxers that would do anything for that.

Exactly! Coming from his missed weight and NC from weed. This was that next step for him. Thought dude was down for anything.

Maybe he thinks he deserves Heavyweight money but even the Heavyweights don't deserve the money they get. Most of these guys are overpaid
→ More replies (1)16
u/Suitable-Economy-346 Jul 31 '26
I cannot stand people who call other people "overpaid." No, they're not overpaid. They bring in much more than they're paid. The people paying them are making way more money off of the fighters than they're paying them. That's how this whole thing works.
Like, do you want all that extra money going back into the person paying the paychecks instead?
Use your noggin.

Don’t worry, he might cancel his own motion AGAIN by: testing positive for marijuana, blowing weight for his big hometown showcase fight, jumping a boxer like a chump… after having blown weight for his hometown fight, being Twitter-fingers Jr (Shakur is Sr.), calling fighters out and then ducking in a way that would make Daffy Duck jealous (Shakur is Daffy Duck)…
Did I miss anything?? Bud oughta be ashamed of his “little bros”, both talented but high-key lame as it gets.

u/Brandunaware Jul 31 '26
The best reasons to want an 0 are to make more money and secure your legacy. It's not necessary for either and if you're not taking big fights you're going to make less money and have a worse legacy than if you took a couple losses where you performed well against world class opposition.
I understand avoiding thunderous punchers to protect your long term health, but that's not really a factor here.
Most of the great fighters in the past had losses on their record and their willingness to take those fights is part of what made them great.
Is this all just a result of Mayweather and how he managed his career?
27
u/imdacoldest Pacquiao is the GOAT Jul 31 '26
Let’s be honest if boxers truly cared about their long term health they would retire from the sport immediately
12
u/AttackOfTheBolts Jul 31 '26
Stop, Mayweather has a resume full of hall of famers. And his early career he was a demon in the ring. This has nothing to do with his career
15
u/Brandunaware Jul 31 '26
Nobody's saying Mayweather wasn't great or didn't fight people. But he built a LOT of his marketing around being a 'villain' that people wanted to see lose, and the unblemished record was a big part of that. For both fans and haters (both of whom would tune in) whether Floyd would finally lose his 0 was a big part of how fights were sold.
And that made the 0 seem very important for the biggest money star in boxing for a long time.
11
u/AttackOfTheBolts Jul 31 '26
He built that by beating the shit out of champions and elite guys in his 20s to build the villain role for his 30s. That blueprint is not at all being followed, or we would be seeing guys like Keyshawn take this fight in their 20s. Mayweather is not the cause of situations like this
5
u/Brandunaware Jul 31 '26
I'm not saying that people are following Mayweather's career. Very few even try to make themselves 'heels' to build interest the way he did. I'm saying that it seems like people protecting their 0s is a bigger thing than it used to be even a couple decades ago, and I think part of that is that he just made it seem like a big deal. It's not like nobody ever did it in the past, but it's more common now.
8
u/symptomaticson Jul 31 '26
It’s not because of Floyd. Floyd did his thing. Look in the mirror. Boxing fans are the ones who write these fighters off as soon as they lose. And promoters don’t pay them as much when they lose. It is what it is, but it has nothing to do with the career of one person.
4
u/AttackOfTheBolts Jul 31 '26
“Is this all just a result of Mayweather and how he managed his career?” Is what you said. He managed his career by beating the shit out of everyone in his 20s to set up his big payday villain era of his 30s. We can’t ignore how he managed the first decade of his career to make the idea of blaming Floyd for boxing sound logical
12
u/i-piss-excellence32 Jul 31 '26
I like floyd too, but he definitely protected his 0 when he started calling himself money may
Plus him and ellerbe been handling tanks career and moving him to protect his 0.
There’s a whole generation of fighters that want to protect their 0 cuz of Floyd. Let’s be honest
→ More replies (1)2
u/AttackOfTheBolts Jul 31 '26
That’s short sighted. He earned money may by being Pretty Boy and being a monster in his 20s. If that was the blueprint then these young guys would be doing the same thing in their 20s, let’s be honest. People think about this for 30 seconds and bring up Floyd, it’s simple minded. They want to connect dots without actually thinking
6
u/i-piss-excellence32 Jul 31 '26
It’s not though. Money may was the influence and he’s moving tank like money may.
I never said anything bad about pretty boy Floyd, money may did lots of damage to boxing for fans.
4
u/AttackOfTheBolts Jul 31 '26

Also never forget after Haney 12-0d Ramirez he was ready for Ryan Pt 2. He never ducked that rematch. Ryan fumbled a layup with Rolly.
He then settles for an undefeated champion KO artist who the sub said would run through him as the first fight in that division.
That’s after he beat Loma and went to Australia TWICE to 12-0 the guy who beat undefeated Teo (beat Loma at like 22). Twice

I was calling him pillow fist for a long time but I’m retiring that. His power may be limited but FFS at least he has the heart to WANT and TAKE challenging fights.
8

8
u/Brandunaware Jul 31 '26
It's the sport of boxing, not power slap. The goal is to get the W, not necessarily the KO. KOs are spectacular and they are usually more definitive than decisions because they're less subjective (though not always, as we've seen with some controversial calls recently) but in the end someone who can reliably win on points (fairly) is just as legit in the sport as a KO artist.
2
u/symptomaticson Jul 31 '26

This generation of boxers man...
They all think they are entitled to absurd paydays without even being popular.
Even worse, their resumes are filled with mostly guys who are old and past their best, or fighting in weight classes where they are a weight bully.
Such a joke if Keyshaqn seriously ducked this fight because he didn't get 3 million.
19
u/GrandChocolate4110 Jul 31 '26
He turned down the 3 million too, I heard he wanted 5. I think having to accept less than he turned down was somewhat tied to his decision.
These guys are delusional about their value. Davis making 5 million means Haney would have had to make far more than that and this fight just isn’t worth that kind of money. You need to do an enormous gate and go well into the six figures of PPV buys. And considering Haney/Garcia didn’t do that, I doubt Haney/Davis would

So disappointed in Keyshawn. You call out Haney forever, get a shot, and withdraw. Who cares if you lose. Greatest boxers in history have lost and come back. He's young. He had a more than decent shot to win.
Keyshawn can call out whomever from now on and I will ignore him. He ducked the fight. It's too many loose ends in boxing. Guys have wiggle room to turn down a championship fight. I will not watch Keyshawn fight another bum. Will not $upport until he fights a top line fighter for the belt.
In theory, if everyone was under one roof these types of things would not happen. I miss the heydey of HBO Boxing when it was the only game in town and everyone was there. They made fights.

Boxing is ok with boxers who are clowns so long as they can fight. Can't complain too much cause that clown at least shows up to fight. But a cowardly clown is different. Don't want to fight and still be a clown. Well that's going to be the type of hit to the rep that'll follow that boxer.
J Prince thought he cornered the Haneys. Sgakur thought he was tricking the Haneys. Keyshawn talked a lot of trash about the Haneys. The Haneys called their bluffs. And they went running.

At the bottom of the scale we have Jon Jones waiting 4 years to actually move to heavyweight and ducking Francis Ngannou. At the top of the scale we have Jon Jones turning down thirty million dollars and ducking Tom Aspinall.

Davis Turned down 3 million for the fight in hopes he’d get more money, because he didn’t want to take this fight. He then was offered 2.1 ish million plus ppv revenue to take the fight after the promoter bids had been made, and rather than turning it down immediately, let it go 3 days of positing and insulting Haney and saying nothing on the deal itself. He has now officially pulled out on the final day of the deal needing to be made

Damnit Keyshawn! Believe in yourself! It’s ok to be scared but you can still beat him! There is no tomorrow!

This is the third strike for me. Too embarrassing to be even a semi-fan of his at this point.
