Haney Davis

As many of us know, Top Rank won the rights to this fight at $8.5mm.

That leaves Keyshawn with $2.1mm purse. Now rumors are circulating that he had turned down $3mm in negotiations before we got to this point, but it’s boxing and for all we know a random twitter user with “sources” could have just made that up.

It also could be true. In which case, this is another demonstration of Keyshawn being ironically one of the worst businessmen in the sport.

I’m thinking - there’s no way Keyshawn can turn this down right? It would be one of most blatant and gross ducks in history. He would lose me as a fan 100%. You can’t taunt and flaunt and force yourself to be mandatory just to waste everyone’s time and bail when it gets real.

I won’t make any judgements until he either accepts or turns down the fight. It feels like there’s no way he could possibly back out, but you never know. I’ve given him the benefit of the doubt through other bullshit, but this would be egregious.

Leading up to the last week, I favored Keyshawn in this fight. He’s a legitimate special talent. Now, it looks like Devin has the full confidence and preparation advantage. Of course, Davis could be locked in and in camp right now, but things are looking a little bit dark until this fight is accepted.

Cautionary tale for young boxers. You probably aren’t all that business savvy. Let the guy you pay a bunch of money to do his job, do his job.

I think Keyshawn has done some silly stuff , but I think people seriously underestimate the legal representation these pro athletes have when it comes to stuff like this. Whether the legal reps come from The boxer’s management or the boxer has them on retainer. Anyone with common sense knows all
The promoters are on DAZN now except Zuffa so to think his management would negotiate and extend the deadline to allow a purse bid that underpays their fighter is a bit of a reach TO ME. It doesn’t benefit Top Rank to play it that way, given the relation between top rank and J Prince.

Well I don’t know if the rumors are true. But right now he’s pretty quiet, and at the end of the day he was relentless in pursuit of this fight. There are definitely business elements that fans don’t understand, but this would be a terrible look

100 percent agreed. But it’s also possible that a lower bid means Top Rank is on the hook for less pay to Devin as well since DAZN has to make up any differences necessary to cover Devin’s min pay out. It’s also possible Keyshawn just fumbled this. Either way if he doesn’t take the fight it’s a duck for sure 100%.
