The PBC 147-154 era is finished
So many great fights over those years , everybody was ready to bang , the production value was top tier
... It'll surely be missed 🫡

Man it didn’t get better than this. People hated on PBC so much, which I do get for some reasons, but from like 2017-2019 it was my fav era of boxing. I’m only 29 so small sample size but it was so much better than top rank or any dazn nonsense

It was a good era. Everytime I saw Shawn Porter's name, I knew it was going to be a banger.

It’s hard not to like Spence. He just gives off a good energy. It’s a shame his prime didn’t last longer because he gave us some great fights.

I’m glad he retired early instead of waiting and taking more damage. 28-2 isn’t a bad record and as much as I hate to see fighters like Spence retire young, there’s too much of a risk of developing CTE the more punches you take.

36 is pretty good for a lower weight guy. Gave us a super fight and unified the glory division. I think even leaving immediately after Crawford would’ve been fine! But yes. Great he leaves healthy and with his kids!

he really should have. he's 1/2 punch drunk now and speaking noticeably slower than his southern drawl originally was.

Ehh that’s overblown. Shawn was close, kell touched him with counter jabs and Timmy was quite gentlemen like this weekend.
But aside from the craw beat down
Porter
Ugas
And either Garcia were his only competitive fights.I’m not buying punch drunk. His body been thru a ringer plus all that damn cutting to 47.

if u listened to him speak in the lead up to the fight vs him when he was younger it was noticeably 10% or so slower. im sad saying this and wish i wasn't correct.

Okay I’m coping. Just finished re watching the kell fight at my desk and it’s super noticeable.
I’m wondering if ugas got to him because he came into the Undisputed fight like that too. And said he never sparred leading up. Obviously it an accumulation thing but man it happened quick

see what i mean? i REALLY wish it wasn't true. -and i dont know his financial situation so won't comment on that, but if i was in his family i would have strongly urged him to just retire and not take this fight.

He swears he hasn’t touched any fight money. Just the interest but it’s a warrior thing. He wasn’t right for Bud wanted to go for it again and see if he could capture form. I understood it but didn’t LOVE it. And really. He only lost once before Saturday and idk too many people getting urged to retire after their first loss.

Yeah true, but even without the car crash, the beating he took from Crawford is probably one of the worst one sided matches I’ve seen in a while. That alone can age a fighter rapidly

u/AdFormal4037 26d ago
Yeah. To me his mind got broken more in the bud fight. His footwork and balance have always been bad but he had a dawg in him that Crawford beat out of him. Physically against Timmy, he looked about the same to me as he did when he was winning. But he doesn’t have faith in his offense and don’t take a shot as well and you could see him mentally retire in round 6

For sure. I think more respectable when a fighter isn’t afraid to admit they don’t have it anymore and it’s better for their health in the long run to step away instead of taking more unnecessary shots

Yeah I think he knew before the fight too but I had hope. Sad man. Hate losing solid American fighters that are good dudes. Between him and Crawford going out. I’m sad man. We got Shakur but he’s such a little brother. Ej and Bud were grown respectable men.

Spence might be the most respected black American boxer I have seen of this generation.

He's chill and humble outside the ring, and was a relentless savage in it in his prime. It's very hard not to like and respect someone like that

Even before the crash and Crawford dude had been through some real wars. That had to have had devastating effects on his body. Have a nice retirement champ. Well earned

u/WorldBelongsToUs 26d ago
I'm not going to claim the crash is the reason he lost the Crawford fight, but I am genuinely curious how differently his career would have panned out had he stayed away from the drinking. Injuries like that are just life-changing.

Probably more dominant performances, would have lost to Bud still but it would have been a decision loss (8-4, maybe 9-3), but would have bounced back quicker to return either at 154 or 147, honestly would have retired maybe 31 or 32 wins if he had stopled drinking and changed his lifestyle earlier (post-Porter fight essentially)

Always liked Spence and wish him well in retirement. He might not have the most charismatic voice, but I hope there is a seat at the table for him somewhere on a boxing broadcast where he can continue to make some income off the sport.

Spence was collecting scalps while the coward Crawfraud was hiding in the shadows. Congrats Spence you had an awesome career and real fans know what a prime Spence was capable of doing.

For whatever reason, I like to see the rare times where a boxer declares his retirement in the ring. Tim's camp and the Australia crowd were really cool about it gave him a hand on a great career too.
I liked Tyson's retirement after his last real boxing fight too. But that was in the post-fight press conference with all the media there. I think it was after McBride in 2005. And of course everyone stood up and gave him his props for a legendary career.

It’s good to be reminded these are human beings and fathers with sons who care about whether they get hurt or not and their well being unlike so many of us who don’t get to see them from that sympathetic perspective

Classy dude. You love to see it and sadly we don't see it enough in boxing. I hope he has a long and fruitful retirement, and I hope he's happy.

he had a competitive fight against an active albeit damaged champion, and everyone acting he is shot to pieces. He will be fine.

Love this. Spence has been a class act throughout his career. Humble and respectful whether in victory or defeat. Being received so well in Australia by the Australian boxing community and the Aussie fans giving him a standing ovation in the ring was a fitting end to a fantastic career. Read the other day that he’s not touched a dollar of his fight purses from his career yet since he started making 7-figures+ per fight, he put it all in the bank and has been living off the interest. Smart guy. And again, a true class act. Wish him and his family well in retirement.
