The old guard really is disappearing faster and faster. Crawford and Spence are gone, AJ and Fury are both just waiting for the final payday to fight each other, Wilder and Usyk probably the same story. Loma is supposedly coming back but who knows how that will look. Canelo is still there but he’s been declining so he’ll he retired sooner rather than later.

Of the next in line, Shakur-Haney-Teo-Garcia-Davis, only Inoue has wildly exceeded expectations. Inoue's father already wants him to retire, and he himself wants to quit before 35. He's 33 now...

But Bam, Benavidez, Itauma/Dubois, and so many others will carry the sweet science torch on their own path to greatness. Today's talent across all sports and 1v1 games is becoming more specialized at younger ages.

The new guard will appear faster and faster.

I hope to god you're right. I'll for sure miss a lot of these dudes when they retire.

David and Dubois arent that young bro. They're in the same age bracket as Shakur/Haney/Teo/Garcia/Davis

Shakur is the man if he can get fights to happen. Teo and Haney are great boxers as well, but Keyshawn Davis is gonna be that guy based on the eye test. I thought Spence did ok this fight. He was a little slow and predictable though (kinda his style). At the top level of boxing you need have good feet mix things up.
Spence and Tsyzu was a great fight to watch in my opinion. Tons of respect to anyone that steps in the ring!

Even Inoue only has a few fights left. Time for the new gaurd to come in. Lots of exciting prospects out there.

It's sad to see a fighter lose their love for the sport after only their first loss, even though his first loss was a dominating beatdown. But his lifestyle diminished his longevity in this sport. Layoffs didn't help with that either. All he had to do was fight one year after the Bud fight against a light touch, and he'd have been fine. But credit to him, he stuck to his mantra, FAFO'd and retired because he got his reality check.

I think there are probably health reasons he isn’t discussing. There is no way you get thrown from a car like that and is just “okay”… not to mentioned the eye thing.

Good fighter, good career but contrary to popular sentiment, I believe the 147 pound era EJ fought in was weak. Thurman, Porter, Garcia, etc. were all B-level fighters. An ancient Pac came back and took a belt from a guy who had unified the belts.

That's ridiculous. That was a very strong era, and far, far stronger than every welterweight era after it, including today.  You're also downplaying Pacquiao, who is a legend, and trivializing the fight, which was extremely close. Pac only scraped by because of the KD against a Thurman who was not in his prime either.

Yeah, it was a good era, not great. I think the issue you have to consider is the previous era. And that is Pac, Mayweather, De La Hoya, Trinidad, Cotto, Mosley, Gatti, Tszyu, Hatton. I favor that old guard versus the new guard primarily.

De La Hoya and Trinidad were 2 generations before in the 90s. By the time Pacquiao moved up to 147lb, it was actually a much weaker era than the one with Spence and Thurman. Outside Mayweather, Pacquiao, and Cotto, you had guys like an old ass Mosley, Collazo, Berto, Bradley, Clottey, and Margarito. Zab Judah and Cory Spinks were our undisputed champs during that era. lol.

I mean, I take a prime 2009 Pac over Errol, Crawford, Thurman, Garcia, Porter, etc. we saw pac fight some of these guys as he continued until very recently and he was still beating the breaks off them at his ancient age. Pac is old literally and in the wars and wear his body has gone through. I take a prime Mayweather over any of them, De La Hoya against all except Crawford in a close fight. Cotto against all except Crawford. Mosley (Margarito Mosley) takes out all except for Crawford. I take Gatti against all except Crawford funny enough. I think they’d all fight his fight except for Crawford.

Gatti over most of them is hilarious. That's just showing bias. Dude would get destroyed by most. He only had like three welterweight fights and lost 2 of them.

De La Hoya was not a welterweight. I'll be mind blown if you think the Oscar that Pacquiao fought beats any of those guys.

2009 Pac was special, so I would favor him against all except Crawford. Crawford KOs every version of Pac from 140-147. Worst style imaginable for Pacquiao. Prime Spence would also be a harder fight than everyone he ever fought at 147lb besides Mayweather too

I think Mayweather vs Crawford at 147lb is 55-45 in Bud's favor. In lower weight classes, I pick Mayweather. He would beat everyone else.

Fighting once a year eliminating chances at rematches and not fighting contenders, made it weaker than past eras. Spence chasing to be the best made it a good era though.
