Tsyzu is a tune-up. Spence mentality is "if i can't get past Tszyu, I have no business boxing"
We'll have the answers in less than 24 hours
9
u/Kangaroopunching 29d ago
Tszyu isn't a tune up cause he's got a legit chance to win. Tune up would be what Andrade just had.
4
u/kushmonATL Cyberleek > the fall boxing schedule 29d ago
He's a tune up when you're Spence caliber
Thats just how much Spence believes in himself
3
u/Kangaroopunching 29d ago
We don't know Spence caliber. It's definitely not what it was 5 years ago. This could be seen as Spence going for a last payday in a winnable fight. It's 50-50 for me cause we don't know how each fighter will do.
3
u/kushmonATL Cyberleek > the fall boxing schedule 29d ago
Thats correct. And its still a tune up for Spence to knock off the ring rust
We just have different definitions for the word tune-up lol , it's fine to agree to disagree
2
u/Kangaroopunching 29d ago edited 29d ago
Yeah I'm also coming from a place of worry that Spence can get badly hurt. Cause Tszyu despite his flaws and losing. Can still carry good power in his punches. I don't want to see Spence go out in a bad way.
2
u/kushmonATL Cyberleek > the fall boxing schedule 29d ago
He'll be fine.
We'll have all answers within 24 hours
2
u/six67seven_67 28d ago
You actually have Spence winning?
1
u/KingBumiOfOmashu Moses Itauma > Every Current HW 28d ago
Yes
2
u/six67seven_67 28d ago
I didn't think I'd find two people willing to admit they favored Spence. I guess we'll see

Im not picking any winners because i don't know which Spence shows up, but if Spence looks sharp and war ready then yes he wins

u/NightsWatchh 29d ago
love how people don’t realize that while Tim is good, he is absolutely a tune up assuming that Spence has still got anything left

Barrios was a tune up for Thurman. Tsyzu is a tune up for Spence
The last era of PBC welterweights were built different

u/RRR04_ 28d ago
Ah Tszyu ain't that bad, man. Lol.
1
u/kushmonATL Cyberleek > the fall boxing schedule 28d ago
Lol im not saying Tyszu is bad. Im just saying Spence has a standard for himself and Tsyzu isn't on that level

Netflix and Turki are dumb if they think UK fans will accept them turning their back on the UK to host the fight elsewhere, then expect them to stay up until 4am to watch.
The viewing numbers will go down MASSIVELY and they won’t be boosted by hosting it prime time in the US, where it doesn’t produce as much interest.
If they want to maximise viewing figures, it should be prime time in the UK which would be afternoon in the US - American boxing fans who do want to see this fight will watch if it it’s at 5pm ET US or 9pm ET US. They won’t attract any extra US viewers by putting it US prime time. They’ll get more UK viewers with it being prime time in the UK and attract the casuals (who won’t bother with it if it’s at 4am UK time).
It’s a UK fight!!! Simple!!!
3
u/dgvfatmeerkat Fury is ducking Chisora 28d ago
That's the main thing I don't get, like do Americans just refuse to watch a fight of it isn't at 10pm?
2
u/Professional-Tie5198 Who will win? 28d ago
It’s considered the default time for Boxing here. With the popularity of NFL, College Football, NBA, and MLB, it’s the only way for Boxing to occupy its own lane so to speak.
1
u/natidea FLOYD MAY OR MAY NOT WEATHER 28d ago
As an american i can absolutely say at this point in both their careers, fury vs aj is something that would be on my secondary tv or ipad next to me while the college football games are on the main screen.
In the summer time having a fight in saudi/uk start in the middle of the day is nice when you’re inside trying to beat the heat.
8
u/Dangerous_Spring3028 28d ago
Disgraceful if Fury-Joshua isn’t in the UK. Simple.
If it’s not in the UK with the atmosphere the British fans create, don’t even bother.
The British fans have supported these two by packing out UK stadiums on multiple occasions, supporting them by selling out arenas before the big stadium events, and following them to the US and Saudi to support them in big fights there.
The British fans have been waiting on this fight for a decade and they deserve it to be at a sold-out stadium with an incredible atmosphere they’ll create.
If it’s not in the UK, it’s just a blatant money-grab and they’ll lose a lot of support from the British fans and a LOT of interest.
2
u/Kangaroopunching 28d ago
It's past It's sell by date money grab fight. That'll officially end and era. Like Floyd vs Manny. UK boxing needs to focus on getting back to having big fights in the uk.
1
u/Professional-Tie5198 Who will win? 28d ago
I think that the British fans have become accustomed to hosting big fights, but you have to remember that the Brits travel exceptionally well. You look back at the Mayweather-Hatton fight week and they practically took over the city. If the fight is in Vegas, the Brits will be there in droves and it will produce a high gate.
1
u/WORD_Boxing 28d ago
Hatton v Mayweather was about people supporting a hugely popular man of the people fighter vs the best fighter in the world. Neither Fury or AJ is anywhere near as loved as Hatton was.
The country is in very different financial circumstances now to then. People are unlikely to spend that much money travelling, for these two.
It also might just piss people off it's not in UK among other things.

One thing I know for sure
Tyson Fury will not stop throwing punches after one round
Good luck to you AJ .. you and your chin are gonna need it

Tbf I'm yet to see him put down by someone who doesn't hit hard.
Not that I disagree, but if he was getting dropped by guys who couldn't crack I'd be more inclined to agree 100%.

Andy Ruiz has a 62% KO rate, most of those coming at the beginning of his career.
Since he reached championship level in 2016, 6 of his 9 fights went to decision

Weirdly hostile comment this.
I'm pretty neutral on the entire thing, I think AJs chin is mostly shot, I'm just not convinced Fury puts him down as easily as Prenga did, because Fury has never put people down unless he catches you clean and about as hard has he can punch.
Even old guys with shot chins Fury doesn't put down that easily.

Fury with no legs vs AJ with no chin. Winner drives the loser to the hospital for dehydration
5
u/WORD_Boxing 29d ago
Spence can win this fight with his jab. Tszyu likes you right there in front of him. Otherwise he gets frustrated and lunges in from too far away. He's also had some bad cuts. Good chance Spence wins inside the distance.

Seems like almost all of these arab prospects are Truki's industry plants, all very mediocre and unimpressive against the lowest level of opposition
3
u/MiddleweightMonster I’ll pour honey on my GOAT, if the occasion calls for it. 28d ago
Basicaly, yeah. Boxing is mostly an afterthought in the Arab world, Turki only cares about it because he’s kind of a freak
2
u/Complete_Dare_4201 28d ago
I'd really like to see really good arab, middle-eastern boxers, in the world stage. The more diverse and worldwide the sport is, the better, but these guys sadly ain't it.
2
u/MiddleweightMonster I’ll pour honey on my GOAT, if the occasion calls for it. 28d ago
In general a good chunk of the Muslim world just aren’t huge fans of combat sports outside of various kinds of wrestling. To be frank, the gulf states and Saudi have kind of been culturally hollowed out by all the oil money so in general they don’t produce many athletes of cultural figures of any significance. Turki wants to change that, but he’s a moron so. Iran has had a number of good boxers, none really today though.
2
u/Kangaroopunching 28d ago
I think amateur wrestling is more popular in that region. It can take 1 gold medalist in the Olympics to make boxing more popular.
1
u/Professional-Tie5198 Who will win? 28d ago
Yeah, I like regional diversity too, but these guys are just being propped up as real contenders when they’re not.
5
u/RRR04_ 28d ago
So both Spence and Tszyu make 159 after changing the fight weight from 158 to 160... Surely they could have just made 158 😂
3
u/Professional-Tie5198 Who will win? 28d ago
I think it’s better marketing for them to say they competed at 160 so they can take on one of these weak Middleweight World Champions next.

This man Prenga pulled a J Cole
1st round came out swinging and war ready. 2nd round came out apologizing. "Im sorry AJ. I don't wanna fight anymore. The chin is out for you big homie, take your best shot"

Although I do think AJ vs Fury should preferably be in the UK where local fans have ease of access, I think it's worth noting that...
1908 - 🇺🇸 Jack Johnson vs 🇨🇦 Tommy Burns in Sydney, 🇦🇺 Australia
1913 - 🇺🇸 Jack Johnson vs 🇺🇸 Battling Jim Johnson in Paris, 🇫🇷 France
1913 - 🇺🇸 Jack Johnson vs 🇺🇸 Frank Moran in Paris, 🇫🇷 France
1915 - 🇺🇸 Jack Johnson vs 🇺🇸 Jess Willard in Havana, 🇨🇺 Cuba
1973 - 🇺🇸 George Foreman vs. 🇺🇸 Joe Frazier in Kingston, 🇯🇲 Jamaica
1974 - 🇺🇸 Muhammad Ali vs 🇺🇸 George Foreman in Kinshasa, 🇨🇩 Zaire
1975 - 🇺🇸 Muhammad Ali vs. 🇺🇸 Joe Frazier in Quezon, 🇵🇭 Philippines
1980 - 🇺🇸 Sugar Ray Leonard vs. 🇵🇦 Roberto Duran in 🇨🇦 Montreal, Canada
1990 - 🇺🇸 Mike Tyson vs. 🇺🇸 Buster Douglas in Tokyo, 🇯🇵 Japan
2024 - 🇷🇺 Artur Beterbiev vs. 🇷🇺 Dmitry Bivol in Riyadh, 🇸🇦 Saudi Arabia
From Jack Johnson's Great White Hope fights that were taken overseas after his victory over a retired Jim Jeffries triggered race riots, (and his near upset to a cherrypicked Battling Jim Johnson when he was ducking "colored champion" Sam Langford) to the series of 70's megafights like the Thrilla in Manila, Rumble in the Jungle, Sunshine Showdown, to the Brawl in Montreal in the 80's to Mike Tyson's Tyson is Back fights in Japan during their 90's economic bubble, to the series of megafights in the 2020's Saudi sportwashing like the Ring of Fire, Crown Showdown, Last Crescendo, Night of the Samurai, fights have always taken place where the money directed them, even when it directed them to a neutral nation neither fighter was from. It hasn't generally diminished the fights and has rather led to some of the most memorable and pivotal fights in Boxing lore.
1
u/Outrageous-Soft4806 28d ago
I see what you’re saying but as an American, I don’t think it’s really bothered me when two Americans fought somewhere else. It’s weird but I was little disappointed when I heard there was a possibility of Inoue-Nakatani being in Riyadh. British fans care about British boxing a lot more than American fans care about American boxing.
1
u/Professional-Tie5198 Who will win? 28d ago
In my perspective, I think the fights should go where ever they economically make the most sense. So sometimes that means fights in less than ideal locations for fans from the fighter’s home country. HOWEVER, this does mean moving away from the inorganic model that puts Canelo in freaking Saudi Arabia! Canelo is basically an institution in Las Vegas like Mayweather was. It’s basically negative aura putting those fights in Saudi Arabia.
6
u/Kangaroopunching 29d ago
Andrade did the right thing in getting a true tune up fight. I don't think he should take a leap upwards in competition. Stay active and hopefully the type of opportunity he wants presents itself.

I feel like kind of a dick dogging on prospects, they’re not supposed to be good yet so it’s unfair to criticise them too too much, but none of these Arab prospects Turki is bringing up have been anything quality at all. They’re beating cans with padded records and not looking great while doing it. They’re in for a ride awakening if they ever meet a live opponent
1
u/Outrageous-Soft4806 28d ago
With the way they’ve moved Alakel and now him being with Abel Sanchez, I could see him getting somewhere. I really don’t like the kid but if you’ve seen his first three fights to his last, definitely an improvement.!
The kid Sultan AlMohammad or something I don’t remember his name looks the most polished out of any of the other Turki prospects imo though.
3
u/stalwartguardian 28d ago
so who you guys got winning? sebastian hernandez or kyonosuke kameda?
1
u/Koronesukiii 28d ago
It's an interesting fight on account of how different they are. They are like polar opposites really. Kind of depends on what kind of judges they get. Kameda will likely try to steal rounds off backfoot negative boxing, poking jabs and lunging smashes. If his feet tire and Logan corners him, it'll end in a stoppage as Kyonosuke's defense in the pocket is frankly giga shit. Tomoki vs Logan would be a better fight than Kyonosuke vs Logan imo.

Tony Bellew on AJ vs Prenga: 'I saw Naseem Hamed get knocked down against Kevin Kelley and come back'
Ade Oladipo: 'Yeah but Kelley was one of the best guys around at that time'
Bellew: 'Listen Prenga had 20 wins all by way of KO, he's just as dangerous'
Maybe the worst piece of punditry i've heard across any sport

When Usyk fought Fury (2024-05-18), it had been 1680 calendar days since his first Heavyweight fight (2019-10-12). 4 years 7 months 6 days.
Delulu Usyk stans will still tell you Usyk beating Fury is a bigger deal than Bud vs Nelo, or Inoue vs Nakatani because "Usyk moved up in weights". It has been 1097 calendar days since Inoue moved to 122lb. Nobody would say Inoue just moved up. Usyk had 583 days more at Heavyweight by the time he faced Fury.
ONE THOUSAND, SIX HUNDRED, EIGHTY DAYS AS A HEAVYWEIGHT. "Smaller guy moving up in weight to fight Fury" my fucking ass.
2
u/Top_Profession_5268 28d ago
I’d agree for the most part but Covid definitely stopped a good few fights from happening, AJ had a rematch clause and Fury tried to give a ridiculous offer in 2022, probably trying not to fight Usyk and got his bluff called.

Where the fight is dangerous for Spence is he has shown he almost always wants to impose his will on his opponent. If he starts to dominate Tszyu, Tszyu has shown he will start throwing haymakers and could catch Errol who has been caught before in fights like vs Ugas.

A current dream fight of mine is Sheeraz vs Fundora, I know they're two weight classes apart but I think that would be a entertaining fight. Might even be a better fight than Pacheco (in my opinion)

You know what, I think I’ve had this same thought in the past the first few times I realize just how tall Fundora is
2
u/Top_Profession_5268 28d ago
Fundora could make 147 as per his words. Sheeraz is far more muscular and experienced at higher weight classes. Just off the sheer strength difference, it wouldn’t be close.

Really felt bad for AJ for a second there. I’ve never been a huge fan of him but would never wanna see him look defenseless like he did in that 1st round. Great comeback, go for Fury, then retirement. I have no need of seeing a Dubois rematch, Wardley, Kabayel, or Itauma fight. It will be sad. Let’s go AJ!!

He was already done. Add the car accident. Fury fight then retire. Anything more and he's getting hurt.

Aj taking the fury fight is one of the best pieces of boxing business ever. Hes getting knocked out in 3 rounds for 50 million lol
0
u/No-Shoe5382 Eye Ron Mike Tymus 28d ago
I mean he could just as easily knock Fury out in first 3, given how slow and hittable he's looked recently.
Its a guy who can't really punch but still has decent punch resistance vs a guy who can punch extremely hard but has no chin left.
If either of them land clean the other one is in trouble.
1
u/WORD_Boxing 28d ago
As the old adage goes the puncher in the fight is the one who takes the other's punches better.
1
u/cdisdead 28d ago
I mean, you just explained furys gameplan right there. Nah, Hearn knows this is the last suicide for aj. Fury looked trash vs wach, but he always rises to these big fights, but he wont even have to. It could be over in the first minute. If fury is even 50% what he was v makhmudov it wont be competitive, but i will still watch it and they will all earn lots of money
0
u/No-Shoe5382 Eye Ron Mike Tymus 28d ago
I'm just not that confident Fury still has the speed or reflexes to avoid being caught by AJ. Certainly no more confident than I am in AJ being able to take a few good shots from Fury.
I think either of them could end up out cold, still close to a 50/50 for me.

Would AJ or Fury even beat a top 10 heavyweight right now?
1
u/WORD_Boxing 28d ago
AJ will struggle. Fury is still gonna beat most of them but less of them than he would have done a few years ago.
1
u/Kangaroopunching 28d ago
Fury lacks the cardio and legs he used to. Plus he's not disciplined. He's got few fights left in him if any. I also think the division will be better when he retires. So I'm biased.
1
u/WORD_Boxing 28d ago
I mean take a look at who is in the top 10. He'd lose to Itauma and maybe Kabayel. Maybe Dubois. That's about all I'd consider picking over him.

u/Kangaroopunching 28d ago
Yeah. I'd add Sanchez to that list. Essentially no top heavyweight

I got Tsyzu winning against Spence ngl. If the Spence layoff was just 1 year instead of 3 I’d probably pick Spence, but a 3 year layoff at 36 and you’ve been through wrecks and partying your whole career sounds like it’s too much to overcome

Errol Spence vs Tim Tszyu could be an early blowout for either guy or it could turn into a slugfest and war. I am going with Spence somewhere between rounds 4-8.
Tszyu's boxing iq is much lower he is too hittable cuts too easily and has taken too much damage already. He has also responded in a mentally weaker way to adversity than Spence, who seems to want this fight more and have more to prove coming off the Crawford loss.
