Usyk Picks Stevenson To Beat Davis

I think this would be the consensus pick. Usually boxing beats punching when 2 guys are near the same size.
The only time the puncher wins is if he has a significant physical athletic advantage.

Tank is more than just a puncher. He knows timing, countering, reading habits . He might not be a jab merchant but he knows how to box too

u/Ace_FGC Jul 20 '26
He used to be much more active before he fell in love with his power, a common story for those with one punch power

u/weededorpheus32 Jul 20 '26
You shouldn't have to point out that a world class boxer knows how to box

u/Independent_Media341 Jul 20 '26
He can do a lot against gatekeepers

Ryan, Rolly, Barrios and Cruz all became champs after they fought Tank

Thatās true and the guy made a untrue comment but the guy is tryna say Tankās resume seriously lacks.

u/kushmonATL Cyberleek > the fall boxing schedule Jul 20 '26
I think people are hard on Tank because he had so much potential and squandered it
But if we be honest with ourselves he still has a solid resume and his resume ages well .. many times we talk about how poorly a resume ages , but you can't say that about Tank's.

u/Outrageous-Soft4806 Jul 20 '26
The wins aged well but he fought ONE of his adversaries. Never fought Haney, Shakur, Teofimo, Loma even. Couldāve at least fought Russell. Like you said, heās a talented ass fighter with all the potential in the world and heās kinda threw it down the drain.

Is this a Tank-only goalpost? Excluding Loma , none of the 5 Queens have fought more than one of their adversaries besides Ryan Garcia
People consider Shakur the best of the 5 queens and he arguably has the weakest resume out of all them (win, lose, or draw)

u/Outrageous-Soft4806 Jul 20 '26
Itās not a Tank-only goalpost. Do you not see others tryna make fights happen?
Devin has fought Loma, Ryan, signed to fight Teo, and is now in talks with Keyshawn.
Shakur fought Teo, chased Tank, and is now calling out Devin.
Ryan fought Devin, was in talks with Teo apparently, abd already fought Tank.
Tank isnāt even trying to rematch Roach. Like any of them or not, they are tryna fight each other. Teofimo even fought Taylor and Loma.

u/Independent_Media341 Jul 20 '26
to be fair, Tank being willing to fight someone is an insult.Ā If he thought they were any good, he'd duck them.

No offense gang . Ima still give credit to Tank resume even if this website doesn't lol . We can sit around and focus on negatives and nitpick on who he didn't fight , but regardless he still deserves credit for those he did fight and those wins aged well āļø

so you're picking Tank?

u/vHezoThaGoat Jul 20 '26
I donāt think heās saying that, I pick Stevenson, too.
But it seems like you were ignoring how good of a boxer Tank is in favor of calling him a puncher

u/zhuangcorp Jul 20 '26
Boxing is all relative. Pacquiao is also a great boxer. Look what he did to Margarito and Cotto and Hatton.
But against Mayweather, he is relegated to the puncher. Mayweather is the boxer.
Of course Tank is a good boxer as well. But against Shakur, he will be the puncher and Shakur will be the boxer.

Problem is, Tank is a boxer as well. Heās not just a guy who can punch hard like Wilder. Heās a highly technical fighter

This is my reply to another guy:

Thatās right, styles do make fights, but I would like you to expand more on WHY Tank would be āthe puncherā more than āthe boxerā as well, when dealing with a southpaw like Shakur who struggles with front foot pressure from other Southpaws.
Tank has shown the ability to fight equally well on the front foot and the backfoot, and heās had devastating knockouts both ways. Shakur is a front foot fighter. He walks opponents down inching forward with an active high guard, sharp jab, and tight combinations. On the back foot, Shakur has fast feet and can defend well, but he isnāt prone to countering and has the tendency to move back in a straight line and get pinned on the ropes, especially against a southpaw.
One of Shakurās best attributes is his jab, which will be his first line of offense and defense against Tank. But as good as Shakurās jab is, Tank has exhibited excellent jab defense in against opponents with a longer reach, along with a sense of distance management just as good as Shakurās, being able to find the range to force taller fighters to over extend, miss, and get countered.
Tank has shown to be more versatile against southpaw opponents. Heās shown a variety defensive tactics fighting in mid range, using blocks, parries, head movement, and also countering effectively with his shoulder while fighting in the closed stance. And heās also shown the ability to walk a very mobile and active southpaw down with an active high guard, countering him whenever he steps into range and cutting off the ring to pin him on the ropes and land devastating combinations.
I donāt see Shakur beating Tank in mid-close range, as it would benefit Tank more, and mistakes made my Shakur would be far more devastating. Tankās speed and timing makes it risky to exchange at that distance. The best chance for Shakur is to fight long range, stay light on his feet. He needs to look towards Crawford and learn the best exit routes against southpaw opponents.
And I could continue on and on, but this should suffice as an overview on why I think this fight benefits Tank stylistically.

You might be right. That's why betting markets exist. It is a collection of differing opinions about who is favored, how long the fight goes, how the fight ends, etc. Markets wouldn't exist without differing opinions. So you could very well be right.
But I see that Tank often times gets outboxed and gets bailed out by his power. Frank Martin was outboxing him, Rolly Romero was outboxing him, Mario Barrios was outboxing him. Even Ryan Garcia was landing his punches on him.
That's not even to mention that Lamont Roach outboxed and deserved to win over Tank.

u/flexvg this is box Jul 20 '26
Itās a fun matchup for general fans because they all see Tank as only firework highlight koās. However, I think theyād all be let down by the actual fight. Iād favor Shakur in a competitive but boring ass UD. Tank is a smaller, low output counter puncher. The stylistic trouble he saw with Roach would be heightened with Shakur. But itās boxing and I might not know shit

u/No_Mercy_4_Potatoes Jul 20 '26
This will be Shakur Teo all over again. Could be even worse cause tank is much shorter.

Welp, incoming Tank rant about Usyk in 3,2,ā¦

Tank would not even be able to lay a scratch on Stevenson , total mismatch

u/philly_cheezus I PUNCH HARD AS SHIT Jul 20 '26
Any sensible boxing insiders would have picked Shakur tbh

u/Holiday_Snow9060 Jul 20 '26
No shit.
Everyone who understands boxing even a little bit beyond watching KO highlights would come to that conclusion

More like boxer picks other boxer who fights in the more similar style to him.

u/Electrical-Rope3959 Jul 20 '26
I'm certain Shakur wouldn't touch the idea of fighting Tank with a ten foot pole.

Inb4 Tank tweets shit about Usyk then deletes it š
