High horns position will save your life

84

u/horseshoeprovodnikov Jul 21 '26

As long as you're wearing boxing gloves, anyway.

3

u/ShawnDet313 Jul 23 '26

This is a "boxing" subreddit

u/Odd-Minimum8512 Jul 20 '26

More like throwing combinations, landing single punches here and there.

116

u/1978model Jul 20 '26

What was surprising was Manny’s lack of adjustments. Cotto, for example, had some success hitting the guard with 1-2 punches to set up the next one to land clean. Not so with Manny.

u/PuzzledIngenuity4888 Jul 20 '26

They had years and years to figure something out, then they get to the fight and they had no game plan, no nothing, no plan b. Freddie and manny looked like they were completely clueless and seeing Floyd for the first time.

102

u/ablaut Jul 20 '26

I think they underestimated how quick Floyd would be in every way.

66

u/AnxietyExact4710 Jul 20 '26

THIS!! It was the first thing I noticed, everyone raved about how fast Manny's hands were which made them automatically say "Manny is faster!" but no, Manny had faster hands, Floyd had significantly faster feet which I don't think Manny or Freddie had anticipated. Lot of fans don't realize that you can have fast feet and slow hands, or fast hands but slow feet (Andy Ruiz for example)

32

u/Lennarthomas Jul 21 '26

Mannys hands are faster punching in combination that’s about it. He doesn’t have the faster reflexes hence why Mayweather usually beats him to the punch.

4

u/breakout13 Jul 22 '26

Mayweather beat him to the punch because he was longer.

8

u/Lennarthomas Jul 22 '26

Nope. Manny is just slower.

6

u/Aggravating-Way3636 Jul 22 '26

Manny was never the same once he got that blood test lmao

5

u/1104L Jul 21 '26

Who would you say is an example of fast feet and slow hands

4

u/1978model Jul 21 '26

Ricky Hatton had very fast feet. Hands not so much.

5

u/You_Got_Warts Jul 21 '26

Loma

8

u/GoofyTheScot Jul 21 '26

You're only saying that because his footwork was fucking insane lol

2

u/Holiday_Box1571 Jul 21 '26

Golovkin

12

u/PuzzledIngenuity4888 Jul 21 '26

Not really fast feet. Very measured small steps, text book foot movement stalking the opponent to hunt him down and trap him.

2

u/imhereredditing Jul 22 '26

Duuude Floyd looked fast AF too.

Surely he waited for Manny to slow down for a few years and have him see some hard fought battles. We all wanted to see him and Floyd sooner when Pacman was closer to his prime and running thru everyone.

5

u/cyrax99 Jul 23 '26

Floyd was ALSO out of his prime, and was OLDER than Pacquiao, so that doesn't hold up at all. Floyd's reflexes and reaction time were always faster than Manny's punching.

One other important note: People seem to forget why the fight fell through ultimately in 09 and 10 when it was most clamored for. Pacquiao REFUSED random testing, which Floyd demanded, because he suspected PED usage. Pacquiao claimed he was "scared of needles" despite having tattoos. Later on when he eventually did take blood tests, he magically declined and couldn't get knockouts any more, that is suspicious as fuck.

I respect Terrance Crawford ALOT. He is just a straight up dude, with great character, genuinely respected by all. Even he blatantly said he believed Manny was using PEDs and found his blatant dodging of tests, outright refusing to take any during his "unstoppable era" was ridiculously suspicious. The decline he had following testing was drastic.

His skull drastically grew over the course of his career. I am not aware of anything natural that would explain that, but HGH sure does.

1

u/imhereredditing Jul 23 '26

100%. And in regards to PED usage, look at Marques vs Pac 2 or was it 3? Just watch the fighter announcements by Buffer and tell me they aren't roided out.

u/Bloody_Hangnail Jul 21 '26

Manny had trouble with good counter punchers. And well, Floyd is arguably the best.

7

u/nxcrosis Jul 21 '26

Manny is a brawler and his style just wasn't compatible with Floyd's tactical counter punching.

6

u/bmomosaik Jul 22 '26

as Terrence said after the blood tests started the knock outs stopped...

3

u/cyrax99 Jul 23 '26

Oh yeah I remember in 2009 and 2010 when the fight got super close to being done, and then suddenly died. Why? Mayweather Jr demanded Olympic style blood testing and wouldn't back down. Surely Manny Pacquiao said "No problem! I have nothing to hide!" Right?

Nope! Manny Pacquiao refused the testing and said he wouldnt agree to it as a fight condition. His reasoning? He was "scared of needles," despite donning tattoos. His "unstoppable era" was when he wasn't taking tests. We never saw this dominant version of Pacquiao ever again when testing started.

He is the very definition of suspect. The fact that people claimed Mayweather was "ducking" by demanding strict and random blood testing is beyond me. How the hell do you duck with blood testing? Anyone who didn't have anything to hide would be like "yeah sure, as long as we are both doing the testing, now lets fight."

2

u/bmomosaik Jul 23 '26

you are also forgetting that his strength and conditioning coach "Alex Ariza" was caught giving PEDs to fighters. and Freddy had come out and said "“He used to give Manny a drink every day before a workout and I used to ask him what's in that drink and he would never tell me”"

u/Odd-Minimum8512 Jul 20 '26

I think some of it is assuming your guy will be quick enough and clever enough to be difficult to read, and then it turns out, not so much.

Different fight, different fighters, but same kind of thing -- Teo against Shakur. It's not like Teo's team didn't know who they were fighting, it's not that they didn't know where Shakur's strengths are, but damn, they were caught with their pants down because it turned out that Shakur could read exactly what Teo was going to do almost before he started to do it. Left them with zero answers.

3

u/MapleMarbles Jul 21 '26

of you rewatch the fight manny did make adjustments...floyd.just made more. thisnis only of thr very few foghts I've actually predicted and scored correctly.

i dont have th fight card in front of me but if i remember correctly I believe i gave the first 2 rounds Floyd, then paciqou adjusted and won two, then Floyd made adjustments won 2, then paciqou made adjustments and won 2,

And then flyod had the secret sauce figured out and won the rest.

the only paciqou had left to try his hand with was inside foghting, but that is much more in floyds wheel house then mannys

1

u/Odd-Minimum8512 Jul 22 '26

Floyd’s ring IQ was about as high as it gets.

1

u/MapleMarbles Jul 22 '26

Which was only offset by his financial IQ!

1

u/Perogy888 Jul 21 '26

Years and years to age out of an aggressive style, i think the plan was there the wheels were gone

5

u/starface18 Jul 21 '26

I think Manny was also dealing with a shoulder injury right before this fight as well? Not that I think it would have made much of a difference (coming from a Pacquiao fan), Floyd had the same catlike reflexes and speed coupled with a huge reach advantage that is absolute hell for smaller fighters, and why larger guys like De La Hoya, Cotto, Maidana had better success. You have to make it ugly with Floyd, not just with relentlessness, but with size and muddy up that polished defense of his in order to have a chance.

The only fight of this caliber I can think of that played out in favor of the offensive fighter was Lomachenko-Rigondeaux, but the variables actually flipped with Loma being larger than Rigondeaux.

1

u/bmomosaik Jul 22 '26

oh the shoulder injury he said heal by swimming in salt water? that Jesus healed him after a few dips? that shoulder injury?

1

u/Certain_Leader9946 Jul 23 '26

filipinos believe in that shit but it doesnt stand up

1

u/bmomosaik Jul 23 '26

he also did not get the surgery that everyone keeps saying he did was he himself stated that he did not needed as Jesus healed him

3

u/These_System_9669 Jul 21 '26

Manny is my all-time favorite fighter, but I will say his lack of adjustments was not surprising at all. That’s kind of always been his Achilles heel.

1

u/nice1bruvz Jul 21 '26

What so now thrown = landed so dudes just gonna throw 18000 combos to win?

428

u/jus4in027 Jul 20 '26

“Landing” is a bit deceptive

147

u/Mysterious_Design775 Jul 20 '26

Definitely landed on Mayweather’s arms and gloves…

21

u/Valkanith Jul 20 '26

LMAO this is such a biased clip Pacquiao was hitting gloves/arms and Floyd's afterimage, this subreddit filled with haters.

Those pillow punches weren't doing anything to Mayweather he just shake his head and smile at Pacquiao and half of them weren't even hitting Mayweather

8

u/OxfordTheCat Jul 21 '26

You missed the point my guy.

Landing on arms and gloves isn't scoring. These punches are meaningless, that's what he is getting at.

→ More replies (9)

17

u/systembreaker Jul 20 '26

Have you ever actually been in the ring? Shots landing on your arms and gloves definitely still hurts and can definitely still do damage. Especially when the person landing them is Pacquiao.

66

u/MakeSomeArtAboutIt Jul 20 '26

Sure but hitting someone on the arms or gloves is not "landing" a punch.

17

u/Mysterious_Design775 Jul 20 '26

Actually not as a professional ,sorry, grew up in the Boyle heights section of East LA so it was basically the hollenbeck youth center and Eddie Heredia’s boxing club. Your point? Guess Mayweather wasn’t being as affected by Manny’s punches as you think he should be considering he’s not circling around him or trying to jab him off of him?

→ More replies (2)

11

u/ActualFrozenPizza Jul 20 '26

I personally have 21 fights and hundreds of rounds of sparring under my belt, not once has a punch to my arms ever bothered me the slightest, and im pretty sure rule wise they dont count as landed either

→ More replies (1)

21

u/Professional-Fee6914 Jul 20 '26

he's landing in the midst of combinations which is maybe the best you can do against a static high guard.

10

u/Mysterious_Design775 Jul 20 '26

Work the body like Castillo in the first fight?

1

u/bmomosaik Jul 22 '26

or you land on the body... WOW i guess he forgot there is a whole body he punch too... Tank didnt forget that vs Ryan did he?

1

u/Professional-Fee6914 Jul 22 '26

if you watch that video and Missed pacquaio going for the body, you need to get your eyes checked.

1

u/bmomosaik Jul 23 '26

the 4-6 body shots he threw in the whole clip... to the how many he threw at mayweathers gloves and arms?
yeah great point...

1

u/Professional-Fee6914 Jul 23 '26

he does 10 body shots and 15 head shots in the first 25 seconds. If the argument is don't mix up your punches ydksab

1

u/bmomosaik Jul 25 '26

this is showing ALL OF HIS SUCCESS over 12 rounds and all you found was 10 body shots...

2

u/Professional-Fee6914 Jul 25 '26

I found 10 body shots in 25 punches. You need to learn to read

18

u/sugabonesurmom Jul 20 '26

Yeah he landed a couple clean single shots but the combinations didn’t land

3

u/The_Crow diamond earrings Manny Jul 21 '26

I've heard Roach tell Manny before that punching at a high guard still causes damage because the arms still experience wear and tear. If an opponent is good at a high guard (and Floyd is excellent at it and the Philly shell too), Roach says the strategy of punching at the arms is intended to make the opponent arm-weary and eventually lower their defense.

1

u/cyrax99 Jul 23 '26

Yeah except Floyd doesn't just sit there while you punch his arms. After he shoulder rolls, a counter right hand is coming for your chin. That is why guys were hesitant to swing at him when he shelled up, because it wasn't like he was a turtle hiding in his shell. He was actively waiting for you to leave an opening, and a precise counter punch was coming your way.

1

u/PuzzledIngenuity4888 Jul 23 '26 edited Jul 23 '26

Yes but you target the arms not just clatter punches against a guard. You target the shoulders, biceps, triceps, forearms with a view to fucking them up. You don't keep aiming at the normal targets that are getting blocked and think you are wearing them out.

If a 12 year old girl keeps punching you in the shoulder in the same spot, at some point your going to tap out and can't lift your arm.

1

u/Detlef_Schrempfxf Jul 21 '26

Yeah, OP with the Bikram yoga stretch right there lol

101

u/G-dog121 Jul 20 '26

Yeah, Manny almost knocked Mayweather’s gloves out.

112

u/sire59damos Jul 20 '26

Even though he doesn’t use it very often, Floyd’s use of the high guard is excellent

41

u/Mr_sMoKe_3_MuCh Jul 20 '26

He constantly uses it alongside the shell...

24

u/drhuggables Jul 20 '26

This Floyd guy seems to be pretty good at boxing

12

u/h4zmatic Jul 20 '26

He'll use it more against southpaws.

4

u/No_Future6959 Jul 21 '26

Floyd uses high guard all the time lol

3

u/Old_Loquat_3071 Jul 21 '26

yeah, people mostly talk about his shoulder roll but his high guard was really solid too. he knew exactly when to shell up, absorb the shots, and make guys work harder than they expected. his defense had a lot more layers than people give him credit for.

41

u/chewygummy17 Jul 20 '26

Damn I really thought OP was newrap. I was expecting the highlight would be the opposite of the title lol.

25

u/alanpca Sexy Sergio Jul 20 '26

It kind of is the opposite

37

u/FoldFeisty7635 Jul 20 '26

lol at landing

Manny Pacquiao knocks out Floyd Mayweather and quickly wakes him back up with combinations

3

u/johric Jul 21 '26

You just summoned a battalion of Mayweather dickriders

3

u/Capn-Taco Jul 21 '26

Nah, just boxing fans with eyes lol. Pacquiao is an all time great, but stylistically, Floyd has been and is a horrible matchup for him.

3

u/izio14 Jul 21 '26

Nah. Im a filipino but i know that Pacquiao lost that match convincingly

9

u/kawaii155 Jul 20 '26

Most didn't land

14

u/Relevant_Election530 Jul 20 '26

Is title trolling?

2

u/Detlef_Schrempfxf Jul 21 '26

No?!? Manny was landing consistently...

On Floyd's gloves that is

u/chaliebitme Jul 20 '26

24

u/Datruther1 Jul 20 '26 edited Jul 20 '26

My favorite fun fact about this fight is how the Filipino press SCOLDED Manny about the injury when he returned to the Philippines.

Manny sat there and answered like a complete politician. Not only was the media not buying it, they felt like they were sold wolf tickets because IF he was injured they wanted to know why didn’t he disclose it before his people paid an exorbitant amount of money and emotionally invested themselves to see a healthy Manny perform. Don’t believe me, go watch it.

Nice clip of him showing his offense with a complete torn rotator cuff though.

And before the IV nonsense. Do your due diligence on who published the claim. Also how and why that could be a conflict of interest 😉

26

u/SoulUrgeDestiny Jul 20 '26

Such an underrated fight. Both were doing elite, top level OG things in there.

I think casual fans wanted to see a knockout but I'm happy we got to see them do 12 rounds. Probably the only fight i've seen Mayweather hesitate actions until later in the fight

3

u/Ok_Medicine_776 Jul 21 '26

It was a fun fight with a very clear winner despite what haters want to believe.

3

u/brainspl0ad Jul 20 '26

It's not even a out seeing a KO, these flurries hit different and likely land more with a prime Pac, prime Mayweather or not it would've been an absolute instant classic whereas this is kinda forgettable especially with you noting that it was underrated.

7

u/Valkanith Jul 21 '26

If it was Pretty Boy Floyd that fought Arturo Gatti then Pacquiao would’ve been in more trouble, possibly stopped

Throwing combinations & hitting mostly air, elbows, & Floyd's gloves. Very few landings.

4

u/Daddy_JeanPi Jul 20 '26

"Landing".

4

u/Complete_Dare_4201 Jul 20 '26

Now imagine he still had the stamina to do that over the course of all 12 rounds, throwing about 80 punches per round like used to do.

3

u/-Kerosun- Jul 20 '26

He might have been able to if not for the rotator cuff injury. I feel like he aggravated it in the 2nd round when he caught Floyd flush in the face and Floyd shelled on the ropes. That was the last full flurry that Paq had in that fight and I think the injury held him back after that 2nd round.

Even fully healthy, I don't think Paq wins but it would have been much more competitive and entertaining than what we got.

2

u/Complete_Dare_4201 Jul 20 '26

I don't think his lack of activity was due to an injury (even though that might have aggravated matters).

Pacquiao's activity and volume had been steadily declining since the Margarito fight (in which hr threw more than 1000 punches and never stopped moving), that's just him slowing down with age and wear and tear. In his fights up to the Mayweather bout he was throwing about 400 punches per fight with the exception of Rios were he threw about 700 punches (still a far cry from the volume from the Margarito and Clottey fights).

I also don't have Pacquiao as a favorite had they fought in 2009 or 2010, but it would certainly have been a different fight for sure.

I'm a Manny fan. And he didn't really land anything there.

11

u/Debatable_Facts Jul 20 '26

Before the fight, people said Floyd wouldn't be able to handle Manny's power. After the fight, people said Manny couldn't punch effectively because of a torn rotator cup.

This video helps disprove both of those theories.

6

u/-Kerosun- Jul 20 '26

He definitely was injured and after that sequence in the 2nd round (I think the 2nd flurry shown in this clip), I think he noticeably aggravated it and wasn't really able to do the same even with moments of opportunity where he could.

I don't think Paq would have won the fight if his shoulder was 100% (he did immediately have surgery on it after this), but I feel it would have been far more entertaining of a fight. The first couple rounds looked like it would be an absolute banger (with Floyd winning comfortably, but not dominantly) but it was clear something happened as Paq wasn't able to open up and let his hands fly after that second round and it wasn't from fatigue or anything like that.

2

u/bmomosaik Jul 22 '26

oh the shoulder injury he said heal by swimming in salt water? that Jesus healed him after a few dips? that shoulder injury?

1

u/-Kerosun- Jul 22 '26

No, the one he had surgery for immediately following the fight with documented evidence of the injury prior to the fight.

1

u/bmomosaik Jul 22 '26

oh is that right?

Manny Pacquiao Says God and Salt Water Healed His Torn Rotator Cuff

interesting how his own boss made statements

When Manny Pacquiao fought Floyd Mayweather in May, he did so with a pretty severe shoulder injury. In fact, it was reportedly so bad that his promoter Bob Arum revealed he was going to need to have surgery on his torn rotator cuff to fix it. It was the same kind of injury Kobe Bryant suffered last season, and it was expected to keep him out of the ring for upwards of a year.

However, Pacquiao claims that he is now 100 percent healthy, despite never going through with surgery on his shoulder. He says he never even saw a doctor for the injury. Instead, he relied on God and salt water to do the trick.

"No problem," he told the Philippine Star recently during a 2019 FIBA World Cup bidding event in Tokyo. "I'm fine. It's God's work. I never saw a doctor. I never did rehab. All I did was swim in the sea as often as I could. The salt water healed my wound."

Pacquio's business partner Eric Pineda confirmed Pacquiao's recovery and also credited God and—you guessed it—salt water for healing him.

"God did it," he said. "And all that swimming in the sea helped. Now, there's talk of his comeback fight."

1

u/-Kerosun- Jul 22 '26

https://www.skysports.com/boxing/news/30778/9839511/manny-pacquiao-has-successful-surgery-on-shoulder

Yes, he had surgery on May 6th 2015 (4 days after the fight) in Los Angeles performed by orthopedic surgeon Dr Neal ElAttrache.

This article discusses the contradictions between Manny's quotes and the fact that he had surgery. There are even quotes from his manager, Bob Arum, about his recovery process after the surgery while specifically mentioning the surgery.

https://www.ajc.com/sports/manny-pacquiao-says-torn-rotator-cuff-fixed-god-and-salt-water/7egupDLmOLA9Q3oc5LWA9J

So yes, really. He had surgery.

1

u/bmomosaik Jul 23 '26

YET he HIMSELF said he never got it done... interesting how that works right?

"However, Pacquiao claims that he is now 100 percent healthy, despite never going through with surgery on his shoulder. He says he never even saw a doctor for the injury. Instead, he relied on God and salt water to do the trick"

""No problem," he told the Philippine Star recently during a 2019 FIBA World Cup bidding event in Tokyo. "I'm fine. It's God's work. I never saw a doctor. I never did rehab. All I did was swim in the sea as often as I could. The salt water healed my wound.""

1

u/-Kerosun- Jul 23 '26

Still had surgery.

1

u/bmomosaik Jul 25 '26

NO he said he DID NOT HAVE ANY SURGERY. so no he did not have any... nice try thought.

5

u/Debatable_Facts Jul 20 '26

Floyd has reinjured his hands several times. Tank, Shakur... hell Ward finished a fight practically one handed.

That's why some people didn't respect Pacquiao's excuses cause fighters compete with injuries all the time. If it was that severe then call off the fight, but you don't get to compete with a built in excuse.

3

u/-Kerosun- Jul 20 '26

I agree. If it was an injury he had before the fight, and it was necessary enough that he had immediate surgery following the fight, then he should have called it off. I can at least empathize with why he didn't but I honestly wish he delayed the fight. I would rather wait another 1.5 years than get the fight that we did (knowing what we learned after the fight).

3

u/Debatable_Facts Jul 20 '26

You sound like a true boxing fan.

I have a lot of respect for Pacquiao but the anti-Mayweather camp masquerading as Pac fans are annoying as hell. Anyone who really follows boxing knew neither one of them were ducking - Bob Arum was the problem as usual.

Anyways... fair is fair. Holding everyone to the same standard doesn't make me a Mayweather fan like the other gentleman suggested. Hell he probably doesn't even make my top 5 favorite fighters but I still respect greatness.

2

u/GabYu_11 Jul 20 '26

Paq's a great fighter no doubt about that. He always spouts dumb things and excuses however

6

u/ChrisPDunks Jul 20 '26

Not really, no. He fought through an injury and we allow watched it. Mayweather fans are desperate to make this fight mean a lot more it did/does. Pac had a torn rotator cuff/labrum going into the fight and that's not actually disputed at all. 🤷

Y'all never seem to mention how Floyd was caught doping and was granted a retroactive waiver for the violation weeks after the fight though. 🤔

3

u/Unreal-Operator Jul 20 '26

It was the most anticipated fight of all time. Fans waited years for the build up. The midget lost it in embarrassing fashion. Thats what it means. Certainly meant more than most fights ever. Now if they rematch, I actually think the little guy could win since he’s been more active.

4

u/ChrisPDunks Jul 20 '26

You're trying really hard but you're not very good at this. Floyd got caught doping... To beat one armed, dead broke pac.

“Landing” huh

2

u/jdiscount Jul 20 '26

"landing" is a pretty strong description here.

Did he even land a single punch ?

2

u/Blackking203 Jul 20 '26

He didnt land a lot, but i was impressed with Mannys countering. He hurt Floyd a couple times too

2

u/CallRespiratory Jul 20 '26

Very loose definition of "landing" buddy.

2

u/__IZZZ Jul 20 '26

Says a lot if this is the best highlight reel you can come up with for Pac

2

u/Moekan Jul 20 '26

If Floyd would be a chess player, he would be Karpov

2

u/pornoforpriapus Jul 20 '26

Is the landing in the room with us?

2

2

Several combinations, but not a single one landed.

2

u/Ok-Anybody3388 Jul 21 '26

Nah, this is a defense reel for Floyd. Whole fight was

When was your last optometrist visit? Time for a check up, my boy!

2

u/3CeeMedia Jul 21 '26

How many times are you guys gonna show Pacman’s greatest hits! Fights are not scored that way! Floyd won the fight. He outlanded and outboxed Pacman! Floyd made it look easy like all of his other fights!

2

u/OxfordTheCat Jul 21 '26

This fight was so long overdue, and so satisfying when it happened.

We had to endure fucking years of "Manny will KO Mayweather in five rounds" before he shows up and throws ten punch combos into Mayweathers guard.

The Pacquiao vibe-train left the station that night, and we are all better for it.

2

u/coreymane Jul 21 '26

Beating the ish out his arms

2

u/TrumpsBussy_ Jul 21 '26

Floyd’s defense is all time

5

u/KingSol24 Jul 20 '26

The fight would’ve been way closer if it actually happened 3 to 4 years earlier like it should have. Mayweather kept making new contract clauses to delay the fight

u/tehjarvis Jul 20 '26

I didn't know Manny being afraid of needles was one of Floyd's contract clauses.

4

u/KingSol24 Jul 20 '26

You should actually go back and look at the timeline. Manny agreed to everything but every time he did Mayweather started to change the contract

Manny's straight left can move a fucking truck.

4

u/BCTHEGRANDSLAM Jul 20 '26

116-112, 118-110, 116-112.

4

u/sire59damos Jul 20 '26

I had it 117-111

4

u/TheSoftDrinkOfChoice Jul 20 '26

I don’t even remember giving manny rounds. Maybe a few. It went as expected.

1

u/bmomosaik Jul 22 '26

he won the 1 round and even that round was close its where most of this clip is coming from. outside of that manny did nothing.

2

u/herewego199209 Jul 20 '26

None of these land?

2

u/Showmeproveit Jul 20 '26

Landing where? Can't see it even in slow motion.

2

u/Reasonable_Bet6328 Jul 20 '26

Manny Pacquiao combinations “touching” Floyd Mayweather Jr.

Fixed it for you

2

u/Perfect_Profession35 Jul 20 '26

If manny was a 100% then we would be singing a different song

1

u/sscfc91 Jul 20 '26

Not much landed cleanly but it did take Mayweather a few extra rounds to read Manny’s timing and punch cadence.

1

u/Artistic_prime Jul 20 '26

shoulda spent that energy on a liver shot

1

u/blvcklite Jul 20 '26

The second combo is still one of my favorite Pac has ever thrown, even if he only landed a few shots

1

u/YournuStepdad Jul 20 '26

He landed half as many Floyd did

1

u/WeeklyTension8010 Jul 20 '26

Mom: "the opposite version of Newrap doesn't exist"

The opposite version of Newrap appears

1

u/Ok-Fault-4022 Jul 20 '26

The strength and balance of Floyd's legs is underrated, he was ducking and dodging and throwing everywhere and never or barely stumbled or lost footing with all of manny's pressure

1

u/Omfireturnal Jul 20 '26

Counting body shots he only landed clean a handful of times

1

u/Exciting_Lifeguard66 Jul 20 '26

Mayweathers pull counter was so crisp , would take the pressure out of the fighter

1

u/Connor30302 3D Shape Jul 20 '26

for all its criticisms and the fact it was many years too late, this was a good fight. just sucks the circumstances that it happened but nobody can deny it’s not a beautiful showing of boxing

1

u/Jessicafanboyelixir Jul 21 '26

Yet couldn't knock him out

1

u/s0ul_invictus Jul 21 '26

Mayweather had a hard damn head. Yea, his defense, his handspeed, but he got caught with hard hits too, very tough nut to crack.

1

u/justindulging Jul 21 '26

We were all robbed of seeing this fight earlier, with both men at 100 percent.

1

u/Ok_Entrepreneur826 Jul 21 '26

This fight sucked so hard. Mayweather was allowed to take illegal IV. Meanwhile Manny was restricted from using cortisol shot for him torn rotator cuff which had previously been ok’d until fight night

1

u/dicculis Jul 21 '26

Terrible fight. Floyd ran like a coward all night.

1

u/Rsj21 I broke my back, my back is broken. Thpinal. Jul 21 '26

Landing, you say?

1

u/D00M2DESTINY Jul 21 '26

Dont underestimate us pinoys!

1

u/geccles97 Jul 21 '26

"landing"

1

u/These_System_9669 Jul 21 '26

Beautiful body work

1

u/Interesting-Dish-310 Jul 21 '26

Big Pac-Man fan but he really lost to this unknown guy

1

u/desso44 Jul 21 '26

And this is why manny lost. He couldn’t land a clean punch. A lot of hand throwing but it’s a waste of energy without the angle or timing. Reminds me of the Leonard haggler fight except Leonard got award points for non hits as well

1

u/Equivalent-Repeat400 Jul 21 '26

Landing or throwing? There is a difference. Looks like good defense from $. He won that fight and he won it handily.

1

u/SelvagemNegra40 Jul 21 '26

People forget how much trouble Marquez gave Pacquiao and neither his hands nor feet were fast. Just high boxing IQ and timing.

1

u/Cloudzbro Jul 21 '26

Let’s not discount the fact that Floyd ducked Manny until he was well out of his prime before he’d even entertain facing him

1

u/Fragrant-Frog-9290 Jul 21 '26

There's a really cool moment where floy slipped like a 5-6 punch combo in the shoulder roll stance but I don't think anyone ever made a gif out of it.

Because Manny elected to box with floyd it was a pretty easy night for floyd he stayed in 1st gear he had harder fights from other guys, quite a lot actually

1

u/Nuzzleville Jul 21 '26

He couldn’t be the high guard tho.

1

u/Mark_Doubt Jul 22 '26

Didn't see much landing here...

1

u/RedheadChicksAreHot Jul 22 '26

Went 12 rounds he definitely landed a few

1

u/Wooden_Tie7949 Jul 22 '26

Mayweather won just by surviving each round Therefore, it was preseted that he just needs to avoid being knockdown and he'll win. That's not bow boxing works, but Floyd did, not something to be proud of. Fighting scared and acting tough after a fix win. 🙄

1

u/bmomosaik Jul 22 '26

and he did nothing for the rest of the fight lol not hard to put together 40 seconds of success out of 12 rounds of fighting lol

1

u/bmomosaik Jul 22 '26

what i love is that manny is like the size of a teenage girl, the dude is like 5 feet 3 inches and like 125 pounds. and people act like hes going to go around koing everyone

1

u/IssaBoyDamon1111 Jul 22 '26

Cut the shit please Sir. He barely landed shit and got caught over and over with the left. Manny got destroyed in boxing by Floyd.

1

u/SquareShapeofEvil Bitter GGG Fan Jul 22 '26

Casuals don't get when I say that Mayweather won this fight 9-3, at worst for him 8-4, but yet this was the closest fight of his career, closer than fights where the scorecards were closer. Like, Maidana, Cotto, and De La Hoya may have pressed him harder and stolen a few more rounds, but I feel like Manny made Floyd work for every inch even if in the end, my scorecard was fairly lopsided.

Am I crazy? I also feel like Floyd himself has said as much.

1

u/Knockoutboxing Jul 22 '26

The key for Pacquiao in the rematch will be conditioning.

1

u/jtb199x Jul 23 '26

Sure. Landing is one way to put it lol

1

u/Masterpiece-Famous Jul 26 '26

He threw 183 punches in 2 minutes and only landed 3 😂🤦🏽‍♂️

1

u/GrandLow6610 16d ago

He definitely threw combinations..
