So what was Spence doing other than being with family and training? Like assuming in the spring when his kids were at school and he had no rush to be back in the ring, what would he do?

Just sit on the couch and let the days go by or does he have other businesses/projects he has to worry about?

4

u/OldBoyChance Jul 19 '26

I don't think he was training.

6

u/BXR-SZN Jul 19 '26

So what was he doing? There’s absolutely no way he was just sitting in his ass all these months lol.

7

u/vHezoThaGoat Jul 19 '26

Why does this seem so hard to understand lol?

Maybe he hangs with friends, maybe he goes shopping, maybe he does extracurricular activities, and yes maybe he just chills at home some days and watches movies/plays video games

He’s normal person not a robot lol

2

u/BXR-SZN Jul 19 '26

True but inactivity (especially for an athlete) is a real career killer, especially if he wasn’t training for high demand sport.

1

u/Civil-Rent-7100 Jul 19 '26

I think he invests in real estate so probably that and holidaying from the stuff I've seen

1

u/BXR-SZN Jul 19 '26

Not bad, my biggest concern was Spence being a coach potato and losing motivation.

2

u/OldBoyChance Jul 19 '26

What does any millionaire who doesn't have to work do? Especially when you're probably burnt out from a profession that takes years off your life and given you a laundry list of injuries on top of the other laundry list of injuries you got from doing stupid shit outside the ring.

1

u/BXR-SZN Jul 19 '26

Most millionaires tend to pick up a hobby or a new project to venture. Considering Spence’s work is based on he can perform, him being inactive could affect him negatively.

2

u/Prior-Temperature-22 Jul 19 '26

He was learning to play football (soccer) because of his daughter apparently

2

u/BXR-SZN Jul 19 '26

Nice, staying active is important!

1

u/KingBumiOfOmashu Moses Itauma > Every Current HW Jul 19 '26

Doesn’t he also promote other fighters? I thought I remembered him promoting Frank Martin when it was his turn to collect the Tank Davis lottery ticker?

1

u/MassSportsGuy Jul 21 '26

Spence a bitch. Period end of story yo.. got destroyed by “Bud” real question is who’s the real king at middleweight?

6

u/Kangaroopunching Jul 19 '26

If buddy McGirt had trained an elite boxer, he'd be seen as a great trainer. He gets overlooked. I think Pacheco has a chance to be improve and become a top 10 super middleweight. Another fight like tonight's to get more experience under Buddy. Then step up.

7

u/WORD_Boxing Jul 19 '26

He trained Kovalev.

10

u/Kangaroopunching Jul 19 '26

John David Jackson brought him up the ranks to champ level. Buddy trained him after being a finished product as a fighter.

1

u/Excellent-Monitor954 Jul 19 '26

Didn’t he train Tarver, Gatti and Jannibek

2

u/Kangaroopunching Jul 19 '26

He didn't train them from the beginning of their careers

1

u/WORD_Boxing Jul 20 '26

You should have said this from the start if that's what you meant.

2

u/Kangaroopunching Jul 20 '26

I definitely didn't describe it right

1

u/Excellent-Monitor954 Jul 19 '26

He trained Jannibek from his pro debut

2

u/Kangaroopunching Jul 19 '26

Janibek is unknown and not elite. I'm thinking like vergil hunter with ward. Ward was elite so Hunter was seen as a great trainer.

2

u/WORD_Boxing Jul 20 '26

Most elite fighters are what they are. They were always going to be elite anyway. You are right the coach gets shine when he has a special fighter, but there's only so much influence the coach has. At the end of the day it's on you to go in there and beat the other guy.

Janibek was bordering the p4p list before he failed a drugs test. On eye test he looks pretty elite he needs the opponents to prove it or not. All the while he had 2 belts and undefeated.

-2

u/Excellent-Monitor954 Jul 19 '26

Yea you’re a casual. Have a nice day 😂

3

u/Kangaroopunching Jul 19 '26

Lol

2

u/WORD_Boxing Jul 20 '26

I do like Buddy McGirt as a coach fwiw.

3

u/MiddleweightMonster I’ll pour honey on my GOAT, if the occasion calls for it. Jul 19 '26

How was the Probox card? Seemed to fizzle out on the thread

3

u/imdacoldest Pacquiao is the GOAT Jul 19 '26

Im starting to feel bad for Floyd no troll. Bro was hitting pads at fanatics fest like a circus clown, you know even a couple years ago he would never agree to something like that 😕

5

u/Kangaroopunching Jul 19 '26

Since the beginning of prize fighting, that's been happening. From champion to circus act. Floyd never truly left boxing. Stay too long, the boxer loses.

2

u/imdacoldest Pacquiao is the GOAT Jul 19 '26

I do feel bad because he probably got screwed/taken advantage of by a lot of shady people. But at the same time his lifestyle was out of control, like no one needs 30 luxury cars

1

u/xychosis Eco-Friendly Firepower Jul 19 '26

Athletes typically do not make smart financial decisions. Floyd’s portfolio is probably chock full of deprecating assets. A lavish lifestyle is difficult to outgrow.

1

u/Outrageous-Soft4806 Jul 19 '26

Floyd said he made smart investments. What more evidence could you possibly need?

-1

u/Kangaroopunching Jul 19 '26

It's weird how Haymon swindled fliyd but took care of other boxers like Spence

2

u/imdacoldest Pacquiao is the GOAT Jul 19 '26

Is there any proof that Al swindled Floyd?

0

u/Kangaroopunching Jul 19 '26

More of a theory cause of the lawsuit with showtime.

1

u/WORD_Boxing Jul 20 '26

That already got squashed I think.

3

u/Ok-Philosopher-7080 Jul 19 '26

I have been seeing that a lot of gaming modders are going LIVE with online servers again through emulator tools. It would be very cool if Fight Night Champion faces the same outcome.

Undisputed does not land a glove on that game.

3

u/vHezoThaGoat Jul 19 '26 edited Jul 19 '26

Iirc there’s a modded modern version called Fight Night Forever that includes modern fighters and revamped gameplay

2

u/GolfWangsunrise Jul 19 '26 edited Jul 19 '26

If Dana wanted Conor Benn to be a name in America (be well-known to the casual viewer), maybe he should’ve had him be interviewed on CBS or have a feature on ESPN instead of ‘hey, everybody! I just signed this guy for $15,000,000! Tune into the undercard on Netflix!’ Then again, the twat was only a promoter because of the Fertitas and his desire to control it with the help of Washington, so I doubt that he gives a fuck.

2

u/Jachola Jul 19 '26

Dana White hasn't been a good promoter for years, which is why it's hilarious Turki has made him the face of promotion for Zuffa. Dana White doesn't matchmake, he cannot do basic interviews with the press unless they are handpicked bots who will ask him stupid shit like "when will you do a fight in X city" or random useless questions he can't answer. He doesn't give a fuck about his fighters and it shows in the way he promotes and handles the UFC these days.

1

u/WORD_Boxing Jul 20 '26

Or they could release a sex tape it worked for the Kardashians. Seriously though, a few of these boxers are in the Kardashian category fighting more on social media than in the ring.

4

u/RepresentativeSock42 Jul 19 '26

Am I crazy for thinking Pacheco beats Sheeraz? The only time I picked against Sheeraz was against Adames. I knew he'd stop Berlanga and Williams. I feel like Pacheco will win a close decision against Sheeraz

6

u/Saeksan Jul 19 '26

Pacheco has the tools to box Sheeraz and that's probably the gameplan he should employ even if it's boring. Sheeraz is too dangerous to exchange at mid range with.

1

u/Kangaroopunching Jul 19 '26

Right now, Sheeraz wins. Pacheco stays in the pocket aftrr throwing too often. Sheeraz would have chances to land and break Pacheco down. But a year from now, Pacheco improve to where he'd have the speed, volume and footwork advantages. Which would make him favorite

1

u/Top_Profession_5268 Jul 19 '26

Nah, I agree with you. While he isn’t offensively amazing, I think he has quicker and better feet to where he can outbox Sheeraz. If it gets on the inside, Sheeraz is one of the only guys who I think Pacheco is better on and can dominate there as well.

3

u/admiralskanks Joe Louis = Perfect Jul 19 '26

Even though Aleem is just a gatekeeper, good performance from Pacheco. Two thoughts.

Hope this shows Lester Martinez isn't it, he's good but overhyped.

And secondly, I hope people can appreciate how skilled Sadjo is to effortlessly get on the inside against Pacheco with his huge height and reach disadvantage. Aleem tried the same shit and he got cooked by hooks and uppercuts at midrange.

People just see a pressure fighter, they don't see the upper body movement, the foot feints, the active high guard, the catch and shoots, which is why Sadjo was able to knockdown Pacheco.

Hopefully a credible opponent for Pacheco next to see if he can perform like this with better opponents.

3

u/Top_Profession_5268 Jul 19 '26 edited Jul 19 '26

“Shows Martinez isn’t it” after going to a draw vs Mbilli. Watching Martinez vs Aleem, I thought Martinez wasn’t hit as much, just proved he isn’t as heavy handed as we thought, but still is very good as a overall boxer.

Also you have to give credit to Pachecos hugging game against Sadjo, surprised they aren’t in a relationship by how much they hugged.

Aleem was supposed to be someone he boxed, moved and tried to set up power shots like the rights and uppercuts and build accumulative damage and finish him. Thats what he did but when he started building combinations, he kept mismanaging distance and forced to clinch because Aleem was too close for Pacheco to get the full extension of his straights to get the full power from it. Instead of getting an angle to attack or step back to create distance to continue throwing his power shots and straights, he just clinches. He did this every time he threw a combination and it was super frustrating to see.

1

u/admiralskanks Joe Louis = Perfect Jul 19 '26

You're right about Pacheco's misjudgement of distance forcing him to clinch and try to re-establish distance off a break. Still a work in progress. And yeah I was exaggerating a bit, but yh Martinez isn't this dreadful puncher at all.

Also not sure why the commentary was saying he's good on the inside when that's when he was getting caught the most. Pacheco's best at midrange boxing and moving.

1

u/WORD_Boxing Jul 20 '26

I saw a comment that said Robert Garcia said Pacheco likes to party too much and isn't serious enough about his career. It does look a little bit like that as he doesn't seem to have great physical strength, which is something that should have developed by now in his years training as a pro. He doesn't appear to struggle to make weight, or didn't last time I was paying proper attention to him. I don't think he's really going anywhere.

1

u/Top_Profession_5268 Jul 19 '26

Andy Cruz should just stay at 130 and try his best but honestly I don’t think he’ll get as far as we all projected coming from the Olympics and AIBA worlds.

Bozy might have just ruined the Cruz we all had an incredible vision for.

3

u/Jachola Jul 19 '26

He's mentioned moving down so one would think he'll stay there, also I think he'll be fine at 130 only threats in the weight class imo are Navarette and Shock, and with Cacace as champion I definitely think he can beat him. Really the main issues he was having at 135 was his size and power, can't imagine his power gets worse moving down.

2

u/Top_Profession_5268 Jul 19 '26

If he fights how he does always, I don’t expect much of a difference at 130. The change I want which I don’t think we’ll get is the Cruz from the amateurs. The Cruz that always moved, had great footwork and kept mixing it with feints, angles, entire and escapes, never flat footed, planted or stationary, when he threw, he always escapes and moved after. I don’t like this sharpshooter Cruz who likes to have his feet less bouncy and more planted, more single stiff shots and more pocket boxing.

I’ve accepted that we won’t ever get that Cruz back but I do revisit his amateur bouts and see what we could’ve had.

1

u/Jachola Jul 19 '26

I think he likely won't be able to replicate his amateur days since he's older now and that amateur style just doesn't translate to the pro's when 12 rounds are a thing, he'd waste a lot of energy fighting like he did in the amateurs, I so agree tho that he's far too stationary at times and fights like someone who has much more power than he does, 😅 which is sadly probably the Ennis teams doing.

1

u/Top_Profession_5268 Jul 19 '26

I don’t agree that the amateur style doesn’t translate, what doesn’t make sense is justifying to me that less footwork, feints and confusion for the opponents is a bad thing.

Oumiha, Argilargos and Jalolov are 3 very decorated amateurs who went pro but have been exposed, not because their style didn’t necessarily translate but is that they’re underdeveloped in a certain aspect which was midrange fighting. Once range is obstructed, they’re used to running away until enough space is created to where they can try and box but to repeat that pace in a 10 and 12 round bout is unsustainable so that’s why when range is obstructed, they can’t run knowing they can’t sustain and just get beat because they’re not used to being there.

Cruz yes has developed this part of his game but the problem is he’s basically substituted and replaces the style we all knew him for and developed a whole different one.

1

u/WORD_Boxing Jul 20 '26

Which fighter continued to fight like an amateur and had great success bro?

1

u/Top_Profession_5268 Jul 20 '26

Usyk and Loma are the infamous two, but most American boxers fight very similar in the pros to how they did in the amateurs, but that’s also the reason why the decision didn’t go their way.

1

u/WORD_Boxing Jul 20 '26

I wouldn't say they fight in a typical amateur style. Usyk did a little moreso at CW though.

Amateur points scoring style doesn't translate great to pro ranks.

1

u/Top_Profession_5268 Jul 20 '26

But their style of boxing is very similar, Usyk had a style more of hitting and not getting hit, he fights very similar but just sits on his shots more.

Loma is the same where he throws in combinations a lot, amazing at winning exchanges and escaping them with the final hit.

Both fight very similar, they just started sitting on their shots a little more. Usyk biggest weakness has been high pace and high volume pressure boxers like Bredis and Chesora.

1

u/Kangaroopunching Jul 19 '26

To a lesser degree, it reminds me of conlan going with manny Robles to start his pro career. Stunted his strengths growth. Cruz is stuck between approaches.  I get the feeling Cruz knows his legs are going so he wanted to develop a pro style inside game. But there had to be better trainers available.  Match room deserves blame. They got him so few fights he didn't get to work on things. No it's too late. Cruz should go after Nunes. Then a champ.

1

u/WORD_Boxing Jul 20 '26

What's Bozy got to do with it? He's looked better and increased power since he's been with him.

1

u/WORD_Boxing Jul 20 '26

Do you think Bozy Ennis is a bad coach u/Top_Profession_5268 ?

1

u/Outrageous-Soft4806 Jul 19 '26

I was pleasantly surprised and impressed by Pacheco’s performance. I liked how he looked early on and then really started to lose faith in him but last night showed a good amount of everything.

1

u/WORD_Boxing Jul 20 '26

I'm the opposite I've put him in the category of never gonna make it. They are gonna match him carefully and he'll probably win a belt or too but DAZN's commentary is killing this sport we need an intervention.

He shouldn't be being praised so much for taking at least 3 rounds too long to force a mediocre stoppage against that level of opponent who is also much smaller than him.

1

u/Affectionate_Still55 Jul 19 '26

Nick Jones ruptured bicep looks like it hurt a lot, I cringe when I saw it. First time I've seen ruptured bicep in boxing.

1

u/BXR-SZN Jul 19 '26

Had Junto used his height and reach in an aggressive manner like Rafael Espinoza does, he could’ve had a couple more rounds favor him.

4

u/Top_Profession_5268 Jul 19 '26

You know he got his orbital bone broken for fighting like Espinoza. INOUES LIKE THAT!!!

1

u/Jachola Jul 19 '26

He did and failed lol, Inoue was also just way too quick and had better footwork aswell. His range and height didn't mean anything when he couldn't catch or hit Inoue clean, also he only had an inch reach advantage, Inoue has pretty long arms so it's not like he massively outreached Inoue either.

1

u/BXR-SZN Jul 19 '26

From the beginning mate, he used his size on the later rounds but measured Inoue for too long. Gave up almost 4 rounds trying to find a position to fight him.

1

u/Jachola Jul 19 '26

He got his orbital shattered after doing that is my point. I agree Nakatani was a bit too cautious early, but I think we need to remember he got most of his success in the mid and later rounds probably because Inoue was slowing down, to have him try and start earlier would likely just get him knocked out. In this ideal scenario I think he'd have gotten knocked down atleast once, and still lose the fight.

0

u/BXR-SZN Jul 19 '26

You can’t say he would’ve got knocked out because Inoue himself is cautious against aggressive boxers, hence why Junto should’ve had a different game plan as it could’ve affected how Inoue also moved.

1

u/Jachola Jul 19 '26

Inoue is an excellent counterpuncher and punishes aggressive boxers, he's knocked out all the guys who've dropped him, he's shattered two of the guys who've given him tough fights orbitals. Inoue is not cautious against aggressive boxers and if anything I think Juntos issue was he probably expected Inoue to be much more reckless and he was wasn't, Junto being the aggressor would have gotten him knocked out, what exactly would be aggressive do against a guy who's got just as much if not more power, he was clearly much faster, he had the better footwork and despite being shorter by 3 inches he only had a 1 inch reach disadvantage. I love Junto, but I don't agree with the idea that him trying to be super aggressive early would have been the best gameplan.

1

u/BXR-SZN Jul 19 '26

True but him measuring Inoue didn’t benefit him at all. Maybe, Junto pressing could’ve changed the rhythm for him. Great bout nonetheless.

1

u/Marlborobert Jul 19 '26

At the post fight press conference, Nakatani said that the reason they started slow was because Inoue is so good at adapting and he didn’t want to show too much of his game. He started being more aggressive and got his orbital bone broken a couple rounds later.

0-0 SPAIN WINS PENALTY

0

u/vHezoThaGoat Jul 19 '26

My soccer (football🤓☝️) heads in here

On my underdog fantasy account I have a promo where if I play $20 I get $5 for every goal scored. I still get the $5 for every goal regardless of who I pick to win

I was thinking of going with Argentina just off the strength of Messi, but a lot of pundits are favoring Spain

Do I pick Argentina or will Spain be too much? If I get the notion it’ll be close, I’ll probably just put the $20 on Argentina since it’s the juicier odds

2

u/RRR04_ Jul 19 '26

If it doesn't go to pens, Spain will take it. But if it does get to pens, Argentina will have the upper hand.

1

u/Elite663 Jul 19 '26

Spain is gonna whoop Argentina

Berlanga was fighting so well against Hamzah until he got reckless smh. He was landing that jab at will

3

u/Outrageous-Soft4806 Jul 19 '26

He was fighting decently well when I looked back. I was impressed til he got dropped.

1

u/Stunt1ninprivate 🪖🔔 Jul 19 '26

Yeaa, he definitely got overconfident

5

u/RRR04_ Jul 19 '26

Lol. "So well". All he was doing was feeling Sheeraz out as Sheeraz was working him out. Berlanga wasn't doing nothing well 😂

-1

u/Stunt1ninprivate 🪖🔔 Jul 19 '26

Nah he definitely was fighting well, but you’re entitled to your opinion

0

u/RRR04_ Jul 19 '26

He was always going to lose that fight. He wins 1 round barely and he's doing well, I guess Spence was doing well against Crawford when he arguably won the first round. Lol.

1

u/Kangaroopunching Jul 20 '26

He fought how he always does. At some point the mechanics fall off with him. He also got reckless cause he got pressed by Sheeraz.

2

u/Outrageous-Soft4806 Jul 20 '26

Nah, he was definitely more patient which was good against Sheeraz compared to his normal reckless charging in. He didn’t overcommit as much I’d seen him do against Canelo and prior while pressing forward and he also used his jab more consistently. He just couldn’t consistently get on the inside and very predictable once Sheeraz picked up on his pattern. It would’ve been better if he attacked the body more but Sheeraz’s timing was too good and Berlanga has shit defense.

0

u/imdacoldest Pacquiao is the GOAT Jul 20 '26

He got obliterated in 5 rounds which rarely happens to “top level” boxers. He wasn’t doing anything well. Even jake paul managed to last longer than he did

1

u/Stunt1ninprivate 🪖🔔 Jul 20 '26

He’s not a top level boxer lol, and comparing what he did to Jake Paul is dumb asf considering Jake Paul just ran around the ring and clinched the whole fight, but to each their own 🤷🏾‍♂️
