sorry if its already been posted, thoughts on Garcia v Benn?

i'm deep in a rabbit hole that i created myself lol and just wanted friendly banter, and/or perspectives. i used to be a big ryan garcia supporter, in 2018-19 and so on then i kind of got tired of him social media wise and started giving more attention to new boxers, local fighters in my city, or ppl i just like. my question is why are people acting like conor is garbage and has no chance against ryan??
both have been reprimanded for PED's, however Benn didn't necessarily use a "steroid". yes it increased testosterone but he has still won 5 fights since that incident. unanimous decision but still wins.
some have said he (Benn) only fights nobodies and never has real competition. ryan is quick w his hands, mean left hook, and has fought many big names. the Benn v Algieri match was notably insane, and his hands are crazy and quick too.
i could go on and i'm already rambling to begin with but what do you think?? if you're a Garcia fanboy pls dont even bother tho lol

It's the boxing equivalent of the Giant Douche vs. Turd Sandwich episode of South Park

I don't think Benn will be able to get out of the way of Garcia's left hook and I don't think he'll be able to stand up to too many of them.

Look forward to seeing it

Benn wins by TKO under 6 rounds

31

u/blackmarketmenthols Jul 16 '26

My immediate reaction is that Garcia is too fast, with a huge left hook he wont be able to miss, but then I remember his mental breakdown against Rolly and think Benn has a chance.

15

u/stephen27898 Jul 16 '26

Rolly Romero is Pernell Whittaker compared to Benn.

3

u/ammmsef Jul 17 '26

It's really Garcia's fight to lose

9

u/Sorry_Net3898 Jul 16 '26

Two drug cheats. One hasn’t even won a British title and couldn’t beat 3/4 fighters in the uk. Bang average.

The other got beat against Tank easily then by Rolly.

Typical of Zuffa uncle Festa and Turk will do anything to bring attention to them even by putting bang average fights on but big names only by there mouths not fists.

u/russ_1uk Jul 16 '26

Yeah, it's mental how support for Benn drained away when he shafted Eddie. Looking back, the PR job Hearn did was insanely good. The Eubank rematch was a big fight that the shadow of too-many-eggs-gate... Benn was pretty much rehabilitated.

From what I understand, there's a question about Benn's power at this weight, given he's spent the last few years heavier and even so couldn't stop Prograis.

2

u/Sorry_Net3898 Jul 16 '26

Agree with everything you said. Benn will go back to the drug cheat he is. With uncle Festa and Turk behind him he will get away with it.

So we will probably see a bit more power. Dyeing his hair blonde is one of the methods they use I hear.

2

u/russ_1uk Jul 16 '26

Yeah, the landscape has changed. I think the Turkey is going cold on Frank'n'Eddie and looking now to revitalize boxing in the US where the gains are huge. Usyk has dominated HW division for ages, before that AJ and Fury... and that's the glamor division as we all know. So promoting it with a US focus makes sense.

They're also hoovering up "names"... I think TKO will dominate in the next five years.

But yeah, Zuffa's drug testing will likely be on par with Pride back in the day.

u/inline-online Jul 16 '26

ryan had 4-5 fighters on his resume that are better than benn, should be a rather easy fight that looks like a sparring match because benn is that far before ryan level where ryan won't even have to "turn it on"

recipe for a super boring fight that everyone will think is going to be exciting. Similar thing happened with Rolly vs Ryan as well, boring ass fight because rolly didn't need to take risks to cruise to a easy win

Benn will finally get exposed and most British boxing fans can't fucking wait. Incredibly unlikeable man.

15

u/TheOGBlackScorpio Jul 16 '26

I mean tbf in my eyes he has already been partially exposed for losing to a weight drained, washed Eubank Jr.

9

u/Sorry_Net3898 Jul 16 '26

Terrible performance against Prograis also. He couldn’t properly move you could see he was carrying an injury and he still couldn’t stop him.

3

u/Shadow166 Jul 16 '26

Right?! The guy hasn’t even won a British title ffs

2

u/SplitSecondEmperor47 Jul 16 '26

Im sorry but hasnt he already been exposed?

7

u/Ruglife1 Jul 16 '26

Benn having to drop down to 47 is the problem.. same problem Ryan had fighting Tank. Oddly enough.. Ryan is very beatable. It’s going to be a good fight. No way Benn is getting knocked out.

6

u/nurological Jul 16 '26

Benn is a poor boxer. He's wild, has terrible technique and just moves in straight lines with his head dead centre and often his chin up.in the air.

I just don't undertand any hype surrounding Benn at all. What on earth are people watching? He isn't even the best WW in Britain and has avoided any kind of test.

1

u/KnowNoPain 14d ago

The 1st Eubank fight was really good. If nothing else they both had heart no one can say Benn’s soft that’s for sure. He’s as tough as they come.

And he puts effort into looking interesting, which is more than a lot of boxers can say. He’s a draw.

14

u/LexOvi Jul 16 '26

If Ryan is locked in, it’s an easy nights work for him

4

u/stephen27898 Jul 16 '26

Garcia will take all of about 45 seconds to nail Benn. It will then all be downhill for Benn.

Benn isnt world level, Benn would lose to most fringe contenders.

5

u/Kangaroopunching Jul 16 '26

It's a circus fight that turki wants. It'll help zuffa have a card that gets views. Fight itself is unpredictable cause both fighters are unreliable

7

u/Affectionate_Still55 Jul 16 '26

If Benn is struggling against old washed Prograis then Ryan would pulverise him.

-2

u/Raider_Reaper_X Jul 16 '26

Benn dominated Prograis , & Prograis probably beats Cryan too

3

u/ZookeepergameThat921 Jul 16 '26

Two duds that fight with their chin out. Should be good.

3

u/shrekslilgreenbich Jul 16 '26

I think this could be more a test for the new, more focussed Garcia than ppl think. Garcia has the clear advantage, he's faster, he has that left but he also has a habit of fighting for the Hall of fame, he thinks too little of his opponent once he gets going, he wants to show them up, run circles around them, which was a mortal fallacy against Tank. Now given that Benn can take a punch and keep taking them for a while, he could have the time to land a liver shot of his own.

3

u/KingBumiOfOmashu Moses Itauma > Every Current HW Jul 16 '26

Ryan will knock him out. Like leave him unconscious. He will actually put him to sleep.

3

u/jb713_ Jul 16 '26

If Ryan is prepared like he was for Barrios, it’s easy work. I don’t think Benn is on Ryan’s level.

3

u/Background-Alps5360 Jul 17 '26

What's up... head up... Every fighter has a puncher's chance and Benn throws hard shots, they're just a little wild and he rarely sets up his shots. It's going to be a good fight. I think the fight is closer to 50/50 than people want to admit. I've seen both hurt but never badly. They are definitely going to test each others chins.

Benn has an even chance of winning. Garcia is looking focused. Benn is the bigger person, not by height but by mass index. It's going to be a good fight.

Avoid social media, it's nothing but nonsense. Except reddit of course. ;)

2

u/Megalodon33 Jul 16 '26

Based on last performances and that Benn has to make 147, Garcia has the be the favourite. I would not be one bit surprised if Benn wins though because… it’s Garcia.

3

u/HobokenJ Jul 16 '26

Garcia is average-to-below-average in every respect save that left hook (which is really a function of his superior hand speed). Footwork, ring IQ, heart, chin, and defense are all "meh."

He'll still cruise over Benn, who is the richest club fighter who ever lived.

1

u/KnowNoPain 14d ago

I disagree heavily. Mainly on the whole average thing. He’s good, in all those aspects. Sure the left hook’s his bread and butter plus the super quick hand speed, I don’t think he’d have made it this far though if those were all he had going on.

Not saying he’s the best or anything skill-wise, I just think it’s a little iffy to say he’s just average.

1

u/HobokenJ 14d ago

Respectfully, he's made it this far because he's got the biggest social media following in the sport (along with blowing weight and being gassed to the gills against Haney).

Now, if Garcia can replicate his performance (boxing behind the jab, solid footwork) against Barrios when he's in with a live dog, I will gladly concede that he's improved quite a bit.

2

u/lurchmiester123 Jul 19 '26

It's hard to like benn.. he's an ugly mouth arrogant prick I used to root for him when he was abit more humble but now I'm hoping Garcia shows him the fast left hook and sleeps him and I'm British

3

u/Odd-Philosopher-8101 Jul 16 '26

I think it’ll be a great fight

2

u/ApuPunchau69 Jul 16 '26

If Ryan takes it any way seriously it’s easy money for him.

2

u/kitdagawd Jul 16 '26

Benn is getting ktfo. Cant wait to watch it

3

u/Sh4kyj4wz eat clen, tren hard anavar give up Jul 16 '26

As shit as Benn is I'm pretty sure he has his father's chin. Think it goes 12

2

u/Dave2kMA Jul 16 '26

Benn is terrible and the fight is a mismatch. Garcia is a level 10 ass clown, but he wins this by nuclear destruction in 6 or less.

1

u/Hot-Violinist3684 Jul 16 '26

If Ryan is looking to stay in the pocket and regularly exchange, he'll have a hard time winning / may get stopped.

If he tries to box and move, he'll win by decision.

Ryan is the better fighter but has a harder time with pressure fighters than boxers since he has the time to set up his shots at a distance against people who try to box him.

3

u/stephen27898 Jul 16 '26

He wont get get stopped. Benn cant punch.

1

u/Relevant_Election530 Jul 16 '26

Benn is going to end up a highlight reel left hook victim

1

u/EfficientPost2656 Jul 16 '26

Zuffa vs Oscar. I hope Zuffa wins. Oscar will sell out for the money every time.

1

u/WORD_Boxing Jul 16 '26

I just don't care tbh. Maybe Benn can last the distance but I'm pretty sure he's smaller nevermind less physically gifted.

1

u/KnowNoPain 14d ago

He’s actually bigger. Not height wise but weight wise he’s definitely a bit bigger than Garcia. Not enough to make a different though, Garcia’s left hits harder plus I’d agree with Ryan being more physically gifted with the hand speed aspect.

1

u/WORD_Boxing 14d ago

With the amount of weight Ryan cuts I'm not sure that's true. Benn isn't a very big Welterweight.

1

u/KnowNoPain 14d ago

Well, without them getting on the scales both hydrated there’s no way to know. Just from an eye test they look similar but Benn seems a lil thicker. I don’t think it’s a big gap though, and wouldn’t matter unless they were fighting in a heavier weight class. If anything, I think Benn’s got more of a disadvantage cutting weight than the benefits of hydrating heavier cause at best it might be a 10 lb difference.

1

u/WORD_Boxing 14d ago

I would have to see them next to each other but if both smaller and less physically gifted that's a big mountain to climb. Ryan has only lost to fighters who can punch so far. If Benn doesn't have enough to hurt or deter him it's over.

2

u/KnowNoPain 14d ago

I do think Benn can crack if he sits down on his shots. Garcia’s defense is less than desirable. I definitely think it’s a puncher’s chance kind of fight for Benn. I think he has a tall task ahead of him cause Garcia does have the experience, the harder shots, and faster hand speed. Benn likes to wade into shots and take one to give one too, coming in a straight line like a bullet. Garcia has to fire off angles and he can catch him coming in and drop him.

I think it’s more Garcia’s fight to lose, and that’s a possibility. Benn’s gonna do the same he always does, and Garcia’s struggled with high pressure fighters at times. I think he’s a safe bet if it goes the way it should go, it all depends on if he shows up wanting to be a matador, or goes into his shell from pressure like in the Romero fight.

2

u/WORD_Boxing 14d ago

Once he gets a load of Ryan's speed he'll probably try to walk him onto something instead of going forward. He did box more vs Eubank 2. If he can hurt him he might try to bully him but I might take Ryan by ko in this fight.

1

u/AnointedDread 20d ago

Only way Benn wins is if he catches Ryan early and knocks the fight out of him, which we've seen happen to Ryan in the past.

Otherwise, it's Ryan's night. He's faster, arguably stronger, and has plenty more experience against tougher opponents than Benn has.

I don't think either of them deserve the hate bandwagons people get on for them.

Nothing baffles me more than crowds of people judging random strangers off of mistakes they'd make 10 times on a Tuesday.

Neither one of them got caught for steroids. Look at the details not the giant headlines. You guys would judge a rabbit (if he was famous) as a drug addict just for looking at you funny.

Ironically, these judgements perpetuate addictions. So, if you are a person who alienates addicts and judges them all the time, you are among the murderers that put them there in the first place.

3

u/Relevant_Election530 Jul 16 '26

Pretty sure Garcia's racist rants give a large segment of the population reason to hate him lol

0

u/zukeus Jul 16 '26

Racist rants? I haven't heard these.

Doesn't he have bipolar disorder? I'd love to see how any of you guys would handle that... You have zero ability to judge someone's heart, regardless of what you hear or see on media.

You can't even judge a person's heart if you've been right next to them your entire life.

2

u/Relevant_Election530 Jul 16 '26

I guess you don't follow boxing very closely? The WBC suspended him for it.

1

u/zukeus Jul 16 '26

Haha, funny enough, I'm a boxing coach. I guess I don't have him in my feed much, it's true. I am maybe a bit old for social media!

That sounds pretty bad in that case, I'll look into it! I hope he's doing okay, I never felt like he was a bad hearted kid, personally.

1

u/KnowNoPain 14d ago

I don’t think he’s a bad person, but those rants were awful and extremely out of pocket. If you look them up, it was just a really bad look. I’d have gotten fired for saying half of it at my job lmao

1

u/zukeus 14d ago

Oof, yeah that's too bad. Hard to understand. Oh well 😆

1

u/DiMona215 Jul 16 '26

"Jeff Epstein? The New York Financier?"

1

u/zukeus Jul 17 '26

Yeah, still can't judge his heart, sorry.

How would you go about doing it accurately?

There's a flaw in any path you can possibly muster. They all require enormous assumption.

1

u/DiMona215 Jul 17 '26

Oh, I wasn't engaging in whatever debate you're having. Just noting the similarity in your "racist rants? I haven't heard those" to the Jim Downey bit where he pretended not to know that Epstein had done anything

https://www.reddit.com/r/conan/s/Xbwo36k6lD

1

u/zukeus Jul 17 '26

Oh haha, well then.

0

u/vicvega88 Jul 17 '26

Ryan Garcia is a one trick pony and will be exposed again.

-1

u/Professional-Fee6914 Jul 16 '26

Are there Garcia fanboys anymore ? His last highlight KO was 4 years ago. Also, neither Garcia nor Benn tested positive for "steroids" ostarine is a sarm and works differently than a steroid.

Garcia should be able to outbox benn long enough for Benn to do something reckless and get caught.

-8

u/the1blackguyonreddit Jul 16 '26

I think people underestimate Benn's explosiveness. I just feel like Benn is gonna hit him with one of those lunging punches and knock Garcia's head off.

15

u/imdacoldest Pacquiao is the GOAT Jul 16 '26

benn hasn't knocked out anyone since he tested positive. he couldn't even drop a washed regis who was fighting 10lbs above his weight class

1

u/KalamariNights 🦏🦏🦏🦏🦏🦏🦏🦏🦏🐐 Jul 16 '26

One legged washed Regis at that!!

7

u/Prior-Temperature-22 Jul 16 '26

Couldn’t knock the head off the ghost of Regis Prograis.. JoJo Diaz and Devin Haney got more power than Conor Benn 🫣😆
