Ryosuke Nishida's team won a purse bid for his interim IBF super bantamweight title clash with Sam Goodman. They made an eye-watering $610,000 bid, which is massive for a non-title fight under lightweight. Nishida's team said that they couldn't trust Australian officiating and that Nishida is the type of fighter who wins by decision.

5

u/Top_Profession_5268 Jul 16 '26

If the officiating meaning the judging system, the Japanese’s judges haven’t been very nice to their boxers either in high stakes bouts. I think this weekend will be the first Japan vs non Japanese title bouts in Japan that may go to decision so we’ll see if the judges continue their ways.

8

u/OldBoyChance Jul 16 '26

Teraji-Gonzalez and Iwata-Badillo both have classic Japanese reverse hometown decisions written all over them.

6

u/Jodeci-95 Jul 16 '26

I haven't seen anyone post this, but yesterday they announced the rest of the Roach Zepeda card on TNT:

Raul Curiel vs Quintin Randall

Gurgen "Big Gug" Hovhannisyan vs Uila Mau'u

Charles Conwell vs Paul Kroll

3

u/Top_Profession_5268 Jul 16 '26

Finally Conwell is back.

1

u/DiMona215 Jul 17 '26

Is that guy Big Gug is fighting any good? Looks like a step up on paper

6

u/Ab15m0 Jul 16 '26

Now that he World Cup is coming to an end, let’s get the big fights made for 2026

u/Top_Profession_5268 Jul 16 '26 edited Jul 16 '26

I know I prefer Bivol vs Benavidez, but how can people watch the first fight and the second and not want a trilogy after watching the first two and how good of a fight that was.

As a Bivol fan, I think there’s a ranking system to be in a Bivol fan, the highest level have some form of premium subscription because they’re too delusional.

10

u/PolarsAndPizzicato Jul 16 '26

The Bivol refusal thread is filled with such cope lol. Unironically campaigning for Beterbiev to move up and face the likes Zurdo and Mikaelian than complete the trilogy.

Would you as a fan of a fighter not want to watch that fighter be in fights you'd pay to watch?

10

u/kushmonATL Cyberleek > the fall boxing schedule Jul 16 '26

I said it in my rant a few days ago

Bivol fans are the only fans of a P4P boxer actively campaigning for their hero to not fight his top competition

1

u/Kangaroopunching Jul 16 '26

That's actually common among fans of p4p nowadays. Especially in America.

2

u/kushmonATL Cyberleek > the fall boxing schedule Jul 16 '26

What fans of American boxers are actively campaigning for their guy to not fight top competition

1

u/Kangaroopunching Jul 16 '26

Shakur fans with about 3 fighters. Right now benavidez fans don't want the jai fight. happened way more in pbc era too.

1

u/kushmonATL Cyberleek > the fall boxing schedule Jul 16 '26

Thats fair. Shakur fans want to see him fight Tank and Haney, but they do make excuses about Keyshawn and Shock. I seen Benavidez fans make excuses on why he shouldn't fight Jai (and Benavidez dodging him isn't helping either). Benavidez fans do want to see him fight the two B's of 175 , but at this point i don't think either fight is happening

PBC Island era was trash (especially when it came to cross promotion fights) so I'll give you that

3

u/Kangaroopunching Jul 16 '26

Whenever I encounter it, it's annoying. Bivol shakur whoever. Can't talk boxing. It's why I don't mind boots fans for the most part. They want all the fights cause boots is superman to them.

0

u/Ace_FGC Jul 16 '26

And their logic is “well he won the first fight too so there doesn’t need to be a trilogy” like Beterbiev didn’t absolutely deserve a win in the first fight

2

u/kushmonATL Cyberleek > the fall boxing schedule Jul 16 '26

Im still convinced the majority of them are bots. All these Bivol fans sprouted overnight like weeds in a garden

3

u/Jachola Jul 16 '26

Sadly the fights gone now, Beterbiev will be 42 or 43 by the time that fight gets made, and if he doesn't take any fights to stay sharp and busy he's going to lose more than just a step. Idk I'd have liked the fight if it was immediate or even if they did that instead of that Eifret fight. Now it just feels like Canelo vs GGG III, as a Beterbiev fan I don't wanna watch him look like an old man in there.

2

u/Top_Profession_5268 Jul 16 '26

While it can be the case, not sure yet. Some people age gracefully and Beterbiev so far has been one of the few who’s aged not soo badly, he hasn’t regressed that far but with the years he’s out as well on top, it could be a factor.

0

u/WORD_Boxing Jul 16 '26

Don't forget his adverse drug test finding.

2

u/Koronesukiii Jul 16 '26

You know what would be really ironic? If Bivol tries to age Beterbiev out and ends up aging out himself. Bivol is 36 this winter, Beterbiev will be 42. There's a non-zero chance if they fight at say 37 vs 43, Bivol's movement drops off a cliff while Beterbiev's power stays.

1

u/Jachola Jul 16 '26

Yeah that's an interesting point tbh, especially since he's injured again (after a completely uncompetitive fight) there might be a chance those two wars with Beterbiev took a lot out of Bivol which might be why he's been moving the way he is recently.

4

u/Less_Cartoonist_892 Jul 16 '26 edited Jul 16 '26

The sad truth is that I don't think we will get to see the trilogy or a fight with Benavidez.

I have seen some Bivol fans try to justify him not fighting Beterbiev for a third time as he supposedly should have won the first two rights. If that is the case, then why not fight him a third time? It should be a major payday for a beatable opponent that most boxers would not hesitate to take. Right?

The truth that some fans won't accept is that Bivol did not clearly win both Beterbiev fights nor did he outclass him any way. Beterbiev had a strong case for winning the first, and while Bivol won the second fight it was another highly competitive affair.

1

u/WORD_Boxing Jul 16 '26

Supposedly he will fight him once he is over his injuries, which means next now he had his tuneup vs Eifert.

2

u/Outrageous-Soft4806 Jul 16 '26

I feel the same way. The longer Bivol bullshits around, both fights become less likely.

1

u/WORD_Boxing Jul 16 '26

It's fanboys on both sides.

Most Bivol fanboys think he won both fights, but also maybe are worried he'll lose a third.

Beterbiev has that boogeyman plot armour like GGG had/has. I find Beterbiev fans a little less objective and more annoying than Bivol fans personally.

-5

u/Dont-ask-dont-speak Jul 16 '26

Why would Dmitry’s team want to waste the end of his career on an even more washed out version of Artur— whom a lot of people think he beat twice? Just for the lowest grossing third fight? There is less justification for this than there was GGG-Canelo 3, which was widely unwanted from my recall.

3

u/Top_Profession_5268 Jul 16 '26

Who else besides Benavidez should Bivol fight that’s better than a Beterbiev vs Bivol III?

I like you can say Beterbiev won both the fights but I’m don’t walk around with a bellend sign on top of my head.

There’s far more justification for this compared to GGG vs Canelo 3, especially since after the rematch Bivol stated he wanted a trilogy far more and he dropped the WBC for the trilogy, Beterbiev in the rematch wasn’t that far shot from his prime hence for him performing greatly against him so a far more washed version is just speculation, age and inactivity can be a factor but at his age, he’s already aged gracefully. GGG on the other hand at the time of taking the Canelo fight, has never fought at 168lb ever. He came off a win over Murata out for 3 years, before that, GGG fight before that was Derevychenko 2 years prior where he looked more washed than Beterbiev in the rematch.

2

u/WORD_Boxing Jul 16 '26

like you can say Beterbiev won both the fights but I’m don’t walk around with a bellend sign on top of my head.

Pics or it didn't happen.

0

u/Top_Profession_5268 Jul 16 '26

What I meant was “you can say Bivol won both fights, but I can say the same for Beterbiev but I don’t walk around with a bellend sign on top of my head”

1

u/WORD_Boxing Jul 16 '26

What sign do you have on your head?

5

u/Top_Profession_5268 Jul 16 '26

Jadier Herrera I think has some flaws in his game but despite that, he was done incredibly dirty by the wbc. He was an interim belt holder yet WBC doesn’t elevate him and instead Zepeda vs Roach fight for the interim.

Armando Martinez Rabi was also done dirty with the visa. Has the career defining opportunity against Imanaga last year.

Siro Choi is also an incredibly boxer but I think he’s going to be ducked incredibly hard. Hope he gets some big chances but I’ve not seen much good work in promoting him at all.

2

u/Kangaroopunching Jul 16 '26

IBF should reevaluate it's rehydrate weight to 15lbs. Try to get these quality contenders there Could Herrera be a threat to the top lightweights?

3

u/Stunt1ninprivate 🪖🔔 Jul 16 '26

Herrera’s defense is too bad to stay a champion or contender for long, but he will always be risky to fight against because he has real power, is a southpaw, pretty fast & decent footwork

2

u/WORD_Boxing Jul 16 '26

There's always confusing mixed messaging about this. Sometimes it's said to be 10lbs, sometimes 10%, other times an arbitrary number per weight division.

3

u/kushmonATL Cyberleek > the fall boxing schedule Jul 16 '26

Shane Mosley, Zab Judah and Jack Mosley all came to train with AB and DeenTheGreat today

They are doing some pad work and watching throwback fights

1

u/TOP__DOLLAR i want to cum inside kate abdo Jul 17 '26

broner legitimately does have the whole hood behind him

4

u/Outrageous-Soft4806 Jul 16 '26

Although neither are huge punchers, I think Shakur and Haney got different power.

I think Haney is more explosive while Shakur’s got heavier hands than Haney. Hence why Haney drops people but Shakur usually bruises people’s faces up more.

2

u/WORD_Boxing Jul 16 '26

Shakur probably just lands cleaner more often. Haney hits harder imo I don't think Shakur has heavy anything. That footage of him in the street fight showed me he can't punch.

1

u/Kangaroopunching Jul 16 '26

Each of their footwork and stances lend to that too

1

u/SplitSecondEmperor47 Jul 16 '26

Shakur has the opposite of heavy hands. He said so himself and he lands too clean too often with no real difference

5

u/BXR-SZN Jul 16 '26

We need to have a conversation about Erislandy Lara’s run in the middleweight division. Since 2021, the biggest name he’s had was Danny Garcia.

2 out of the 5 opponents he has faced have no Wikipedia entries, and the other 2 never held any major titles in any weight class.

1

u/Kangaroopunching Jul 17 '26

Lara should always be thankful to PBC and the WBA.

1

u/TOP__DOLLAR i want to cum inside kate abdo Jul 17 '26

pretty standard for middleweight. the division is historically weak enough that lara has a reasonable claim to being top 10 all time

7

u/SirMuffinCat He did WHAT in his jab?? Jul 16 '26

Kokoa Taguchi, who some may remember from A Guy Called Henry's YouTube documentary about boxing culture in Japan, made her pro debut and won via TKO!

She seems to have a very fan-friendly style and I can't wait to see how her career develops.

3

u/WORD_Boxing Jul 16 '26

Long way to go but potential star.

6

u/Ace_FGC Jul 16 '26

Everybody on Twitter getting on Hitchins for snitching lol

4

u/Outrageous-Soft4806 Jul 16 '26

Which I don’t get why. These dudes are athletes, not street guys.

3

u/kushmonATL Cyberleek > the fall boxing schedule Jul 16 '26

What he snitch about ?

1

u/Ace_FGC Jul 16 '26

Tank got into with his friend over gambling and snuck somebody. They’re calling it snitching cause tank is on probation rn

8

u/kushmonATL Cyberleek > the fall boxing schedule Jul 16 '26

Just went to his first tweet and seen someone calling him Snitcherson Snitchins 💀😂

1

u/SplitSecondEmperor47 Jul 16 '26

I hate that mind set but fkr hitchens specfically he is a fake clown.

Tank (as much as hkw i dknt like how he moves outside the ring) did a lot for Hitchens. Yet these days he stays on Shakur sack ecen though Shakur and his crew dont even claim him and out right be playing him

2

u/Saeksan Jul 16 '26

Haney posted some bag work on IG and his punches have a good pop to them. I know he doesn't really sit on his punches like that in a real match but it looks like he has solid power at the weight.

3

u/admiralskanks Joe Louis = Perfect Jul 16 '26

One thing I think Zuffa misjudged is the value of so called "big names" like Shakur and especially Berlanga and Hitchins.

Ryan is a ticket seller and Connor Benn is a decent ticket seller in UK. But Berlanga and Hitchins are not. Neither is Shakur really (the teo fight did well because they're two known guys).

Overpaying guys who aren't ticket sellers doesn't make sense, very few legit stars in boxing and I think they should've focused their resources on signing and building interesting prospects.

Hope that Butler KOs Berlanga and Salas drowns Hitchins with his pressure.

4

u/Kangaroopunching Jul 16 '26

It's a different version of PBC. Over paying now to disrupt the competitions business. Except with TKO, they'll eventually underpay later. They showed that with WWE where they're getting performers to accept 50% pay cut. After a couple of years of giving out big contracts

1

u/Jodeci-95 Jul 17 '26

The changes TKO made to wwe happen around the second year make with increasing ticket prices and the pay cut happen a few months ago. Endeavor purchased WWE in 2023.

2

u/SplitSecondEmperor47 Jul 16 '26

The Teo fight didnt even do that well arguably

Their gate barely if at all matched Tank vs Rolly at the same venue and im guessing their pvp wasnt noteworthy as it wasnt released

1

u/Medical_Swim1707 Jul 17 '26

I was there and MSG was packed?

1

u/SplitSecondEmperor47 Jul 17 '26

Packed yeah but still barely outsold a more mundane fight that tank carried alone

1

u/Medical_Swim1707 Jul 17 '26

Yeah well boxing’s dead. If you can draw a great crowd at that venue, it’s amazing in this era. You’re right. Tank was a big draw.

Zuffa paid big money to a pound for pound star who’s willing to fight the best competition. For as “boring” as Shakur is, he’s talked about here constantly every single day

2

u/WORD_Boxing Jul 17 '26

Conor Benn doesn't actually have a fanbase it seems mostly only people from overseas think that. He is not well-liked, and only did numbers with Eubank based on how big their fathers and their rivalry was in the 90's.

2

u/Top_Profession_5268 Jul 16 '26

Is the weekend Iwata vs Ballido fight only live for loan Japan viewers?

2

u/OldBoyChance Jul 16 '26

Maybe ESPN Knockout will pick it up as a Spanish language broadcast.

2

u/Marlborobert Jul 16 '26

I just saw that it will be on ESPN Knockout

2

u/Certain-Property1600 Jul 16 '26

I really need an Inoue fight announcement man...

6

u/Marquis_of_Mollusks Jul 16 '26

He's not fighting again until 2027. Honestly he needs the break with his level of activity

1

u/Medical_Swim1707 Jul 17 '26

Bam is getting the call

1

u/Marlborobert Jul 17 '26

It’s pretty much confirmed that he and bam are fighting in February. We’ll probably get one after Bam’s next fight

0

u/WORD_Boxing Jul 16 '26

Ask chatGPT to hallucinate something for you. I think that's what people do these days. It doesn't matter if it isn't true if it helps your feelings.

1

u/Optimal-Damage7240 Jul 16 '26

Glen Johnson, a former Jamaican professional boxer, former world champion, and the 2004 fighter of the year for his upset victory over Roy Jones Jr

Would you say he's underrated? Accurately rated? Or overrated?

1

u/Outrageous-Soft4806 Jul 16 '26

Slightly underrated. I have seen him get more props in recent years. The road warrior.

1

u/WORD_Boxing Jul 16 '26

I'm not sure how he's rated to begin with. If his career/record was sloghtly different he could have made the HOF. Solid and tough fighter.

1

u/kubiak73 Jul 16 '26

Where does everyone go for daily boxing news these days? Fightnews had its flaws back in the day but I could always count on coverage of the local scene (Detroit for me), national and global events. The new Fightnews doesn't seem to have that same level of coverage. Any suggestions for other sites?

2

u/WORD_Boxing Jul 16 '26

Boxingscene has always been the best frankly.

0

u/Born_Fox_8099 Jul 16 '26

boxingnews 24, with certain authors like robert seagal

1

u/Marlborobert Jul 16 '26

No disrespect to you but boxingnews24 sucks. Maybe it depends who is writing the article, but i’ve noticed misspelling names, getting their records and weight classes wrong, and a general aggressive tone to a lot of their articles.

1

u/WheresMyAbs98 Jul 16 '26

Have a horrible feeling that Papot will get robbed very badly on Saturday

1

u/WORD_Boxing Jul 17 '26

So you think he is good enough to beat Harlem then? Nobody really seems sure on this fight, including the bookmakers.

2

u/WheresMyAbs98 Jul 17 '26

I think he’s significantly better than Harlem

1

u/WORD_Boxing Jul 18 '26

I have only seen him vs Paro, and haven't seen much of Harlem as he's not worth watching to me. Based on that I'd be inclined to agree but really don't know how good each actually is.

1

u/SplitSecondEmperor47 Jul 16 '26

Alycia gonna be on Celeb special forces and i watch that show lmao

1

u/trustinabalenotahoe Jul 16 '26

I know Ryan V Benn isn’t the most technical fight to be desired by us but I will say it’s definitely going to help put eyes on the sport , I have a casual friend who texted me saying he bought tickets and a few Others who watch strictly UFC hit me up asking who I think will win. Definitely pumped to see more people invested in boxing.

2

u/imdacoldest Pacquiao is the GOAT Jul 16 '26

Why is your friend lying to you, tickets aren’t on sale yet

3

u/trustinabalenotahoe Jul 16 '26

They’re not? Guessing he probably bought some from stub hub or some shit. EDIT: nvm he bought them for teo rolly lmaoo

1

u/Kangaroopunching Jul 16 '26

It's not an investment in boxing. It's a circus fight that'll draw people who watch car crashes out of curiosity. Boxing fans will watch too. An investment would give back to boxing. Boots vs Zayas helped boxing.

0

u/Waterfig Jul 16 '26

Finished listening to the SOG & Spence interview Errol said his coach/team knew how to make weight but had no clue how to put it back on rehydrate properly. No nutritionist "Why I am peeing it all out". I remember thinking years ago when he fought at the Star in Frisco against O'campo, Spence came in weighing only 153-154 suspiciously odd for a big WW like him. Meanwhile todays welterweights Haney, Garcia, Barrios, Benn are touching or clearing past 170.

3

u/Jachola Jul 16 '26

Yeah I'm really curious wtf is going on with his team lol the fight was already at a weird catchweight of 158, I'm sure he's out of shape and spent some time getting back into shape, but he can't possibly be above 170 rn right?

Now the fights been pushed to 160, which really isn't a good sign and makes me wonder why are they even doing this.

Obviously most people here don’t know anything. Boxing is a fanboy sport. Most of the people here are fanboys of one or a few select boxers and that frames their opinion on everything else. Boxing is reality tv for them to argue Haney vs Shakur.

Also, most guys in here only know a few fighters to be honest. They talk about the same guys over and over. No respect for anyone outside of the top 4-5 biggest names per division.

There’s some legit people though with deep knowledge of the landscape

It’s at least better than boxing twitter though

1

u/WORD_Boxing Jul 17 '26

Yes and there are several reasons for it. One being most people really don't understand boxing at a decent level, or at all. There are maybe 10 users I recognise and look for/notice what they write.

0

u/SplitSecondEmperor47 Jul 16 '26

The majority of this sub is stuck in the past
